J.Lewis ran for 1,364 yards in his rookie year. They failed to mention that Priest Holmes started at RB the first 4 games of that 2000 season. He could've possibly reached 2,000yds as a rookie if he would have started from day 1.
Preach. But i actually forget which game shaun Alexander was on the cover. He was a monster. But i scored more points on kick return than i did on runs in that game. I also didnt know shit about football other than "im a linebacker, linebacker stop running back" literally the extent of my football knowledge back then.
The most underrated and forgotten 2,000 yard season in NFL history. And Jamaal Lewis is one of the most underrated great RBsof the last 35 years (along with Steven Jackson)
Facts he would literally run through the first 3 tackles every play he was a whole cheat code . I don't know if you remember but ray Lewis was 105 rating when 2005 madden dropped 🤣😂 crazy right.
Unfornate that he isn't talked about in running back history. I'm mean 4th guy to get 2k yards also told the browns defense that he'd get 200 yards on em and did lol. Amazing player overshadowed by a defense that was on a even better level in 2000.
Art Vandalay AP is better Barry is better Walter is better Dickerson is better. When I say destroyed I mean those records were his only argument for Goat and now they have been taken away so he’s not even in the argument anymore
Fr that 2000-2010 was special to Randy wiping his but on the post to to Steve n ocho goin at it td celebration wise etc just good entertainment now ppl scared to standout n market themselves
@Mordecai's Mopstick it takes much, much more than just Derrick Henry to revive the position. He only had just over 1500 yards. Back in the early 2000's, 5 or more backs would break 1500 yards. The days of the RB. LT21, Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, Shawn Alexander, and Tiki Barber. RBs nowadays wouldn't last in Jamaal Lewis's day.
tha Bruh from 94 This is why I don’t respect Frank Gore as HOF. He’s gotten by with longevity and been good but never great. This backs back in the 90’s early 00’s all had an MVP of All Pro or 1800+ yd season with 15 TD’s or so.
I agree! If they let a guy like Frank Gore in just because of longevity then Lewis, Shaun Alexander, & Rodger Craig need to be in. All of them have something Gore doesn’t: All-Pro, MVP, Rushing title, 1000 yds rec and rushing
@Mr. Censored I wouldn’t vote Lewis in the HOF but with Gore going in, why not! There’s not one year where anyone would say Gore was the best RB in the NFL. Lewis actually was the offense on a Super Bowl team. Gore will be the only HOF RB in the modern era with no MVP, 2000 yds, All pro, or a rushing title. This ain’t the Hall of longevity. Currently after 17 years he has less TD’s than priest Holmes & Shaun Alexander who played less than 10 years.
If you think his Jamal's NFL CAREER was something, then you should've seen his COLLEGE career. Jamal is ONE OF MANY REASONS why the Tennessee VOLS won the 1998 National Championship against the 'Noles. GO BIG ORANGE!!!
I became a Ravens fan because the first football game I watched was the Ravens vs the giants Superbowl. and after that Jamal Lewis was the reason I became a true Raven fan thank you jamal you made me wanna play highschool football and made me explore the sport I'm 30 years old and still play the game
After yrs of border line monstrosity playing against him, Thank you Mr. Lewis for coming to Cleveland with your skills to show others what winning football looks like, kudos to you Sir, For when i look at the long list of legendary backs who graced the Brown's uniform, You are counted amongst them(top ten)
The law firm of Lewis Lewis and Lewis Ray Lewis Jamal Lewis and Jermaine Lewis help lead the Baltimore Ravens to their first super bowl title and the head coach Brian billick he was a great office at mine in Minnesota when he had the weapons but when the Ravens won the super bowl they went old school offense runs the ball defense stopped the offense and Jermaine Lewis added the special team touch # old school RavenTude !
@@spambamkeija634 if each horse collar were called , the Ravens would accept the 15yd penalty , which would resultantly shorten the field as well as the game. He’ll therefore be hindered from a potentially higher yardage total on subsequent possessions.
I met Jamal Lewis in Vegas this past September. I shared that we had the same birthday and he took a pic with me. I had waited a long time to meet him. Even today he is a MAN. Probably 5’11 and built like wolverine. Imagine him at 240lbs and fast and tough…nasty! Very nice guy and cool. Thanks for the awesome memory and pics Jamal! Lifetime Ravens fan.
11:52 I remember this game. I followed his stats game by game all year. Remember the 295 game too. This was when I first started being obsessed with the Ravens and following their every movement
@@kingtazzzz1280 me too bro. Such good memories. Those early to mid 2000 teams! Something special. 2006 was awesome too with McNair. Then Flacco came along. Now Lamar. Ans great defense the whole time. We are lucky as Ravens fans.
Sincere question, how old are you? Because you look like you're barely in your 20's in your pic. Just wondering htf you were following his stats when you were still in diapers..
Hell yea man loved that 2000-2004 era Ravens...even with the abysmal QB situation. Grback, boller, Anthony Wright, Jeff Blake...thank God we got McNair for 2006.
Yep back when they had gary Baxter, chris McAllister ,Suggs, bart Scott, Ogden , Reed old Dion , Orlando brown ,Adalius Thomas and Will demps classic ravens days I still remember that 2001 class with reed shockey, mcgahee from the U man I miss those days😡😔✌
Jamal Lewis helped bring that smash mouth football to the Ravens. Just look at this years Ravens, they’re also a smash mouth team. Their offensive line is the best in the league and their depth at the running game is deep.
Dr. Mantis Toboggan, M.D. I do t see a smash mouth running team in the Ravens this year. They may be a run first, read option, but Tennessee this year with Derrick Henry is close to what we used to be. Today the Ravens run the ball with finesse and strategy requiring many variations on formations. In many ways, it’s better than what we used to do.
Matthew Bittenbender - A team that rushed for over 3,000 yards combined isn’t smash mouth?! Have you watched the Ravens offensive line this season? Go back and watch the game footage from their game with New England this season and watch how they broke New England down by running the ball in the very first quarter.
Dr. Mantis Toboggan, M.D. listen, doc, you might (MIGHT) be able to call it smashmouth football compared to a pass happy league with defenses that are fast and agile rather than beefy. But this is not like the Jamal Lewis days. Because the Ravens abused a Patriots defense weak on stopping the run (as we saw again last week vs the Titans) and a shared rushing load of over 2000 yds does not a smashmouth make. Nearly half of those 2000+ yards came from our QB who is not smashing mouths. Lewis has 2066 on his own in ‘03. Ingram has been a physical runner this year, but he is no Jamal Lewis or Derrick Henry. Henry is as close to Lewis you can get in today’s NFL. So your definition of smashmouth football is a bit generous if we’re comparing old school Ravens to new school Ravens. If we’re comparing it to today’s teams then you may have an argument, but if you watch the running styles back then where they initiated contact with defensive players then it’s not even a debate.
Matthew Bittenbender - and why do you think the Patriots defense line was weak last week against the Titans? Because the Ravens exposed it with their smash mouth style; starting with their oversized and powerful offensive line. Just because one man isn’t getting the load of all the running doesn’t take away the fact that the offensive line inflicts their mark on opposing defenses with their smash mouth run game. Their run game is deep, and deeper than any other team in the league.
Dr. Mantis Toboggan, M.D. the Ravens didn’t expose it, their style just matched up well enough with them. Other teams started demonstrate that NE as weak up the middle before us but lacked the wherewithal to defeat them. The part that I think that we diverge on is the definition itself. The Ravens are comparatively less of a smashmouth team than Lewis’ day. Today they’re more dynamic than they are punishing. It’s more deception than running right over you. That part stands out when comparing old and new games.
I never listened to Jamal talk before, but he seems to have a clear head and good perspective on things. I liked how he said us and we when talking about on field play. It is a team game.
He still never was 100% after his first turn ACL at Tennessee. Than a second ACL a few years in the league. The year he came out in college at UT. He was like something you never saw before. Watching the guy live on TV or in person was special. If he didn't have 2 terrible knee injuries who knows what he could have done. Maybe been 1 of the best ever to play RB
I never knewv he tore his ACL in college too. Even if it wasn't the same knee that he tore in the pros, it makes his career even more impressive in hindsight.
Lol NFL has been really good at preserving their games history as well as NFL Films stuff. NBA/NHL all you can find is grainy footage and zero extra content like this video, or micd up, A Football Life, NFL Films Presents, Turning Point etc. We're pretty luck as NFL fans.
Yes. Most films from the 21st century were shot on 35mm film, but there is some argument on how high of a resolution that translates to digitally. It depends a lot on a variety of factors. A 1080p video has, by definition 2,073,600 pixels per frame. 35mm film, by the most conservative of estimates, equates to 4 to 16 million pixels per frame. This means that even when we get to 4K being the standard, 35mm will still be able to be upscaled to fit the display.
Big River Records it was the second Super bowl in HD (the first being the Titans-Rams game a year earlier on ABC HD), Kevin Harlan called the CBS HD broadcast which is why you hear him in this video, while Gumbel and Simms were only on SD.
I served Jamal Lewis at JJ's Rib Shack Saturday, June 6th, 2020. We are very honored that Jamal Lewis chose to eat at JJ's Rib Shack, including dessert! We and the City of Atlanta are proud of Jamal Lewis and your accomplishments as a powerful running back! God bless you, and we look forward to seeing you again at JJ's Rib Shack Atlanta.
@Luis Mercado No, Peterson was drafted in this league before the transition to a passing league. When he broke 2K it was still a running league. CJ2K had a 2K year just before him.
@@thabruhfrom9444 wtf are you talking about? Chris Johnson 2k year was 2009, APs was 2012, not a year before. Nevertheless, the offensive play changes that have way to the modern passing era were born in 2007 and where well in use by 2012, the year Manning was also considered for the award when he was in Denver.
@Luis Mercado who the fuck thinks the league transformed into a passing league in 2007? More like 2013. Teams up to 2012 were still operating a run first offense. 49ers, in 2011 with Kap, Redskins, in 2012 with RG3. Hell, Alford Morris had 1600 yards in 2012. Who? BTW, never said CJ2k broke 2K a year before him, I said he rushed for 2K just before him. Never said he did it in 2012.
@@logan-dm5zp the whole game us on the ravens channel Playlist I finally saw it but ita unlisted so u have to go to ravens 25 greatest games Playlist and im a packers fan and love it !
My favourite aspect of the game. Nothing like seeing a back shake n bake through 11 guys to bring it home. My favourite player in history didnt even play for my team. He was simply the most amazing rb evsr
I was at every home game from 99 to 03 including super bowl 35 in tampa it was great i have my sister to thank for that she was a ravens cheerleader in that time frame. thanks sis love you!
Underrated !!!! This man was never underrated. Ppl just don’t remember his great career he had . It was over 20 years ago , he almost broke the rushing record . 2,000 yards club, he was a great player , powerhouse, unstoppable at times .
Quasimoto7 But the Ravens had a losing record. MVP has to take his team to the playoffs. AP won with the Vikings 10-6 record. LT won with the Chargers 12-4 record.
I had a pleasure watching Jamal Lewis play in the NFL. This man was a monster as a powerful, strong back who broke records for rushing. He broke the single-game rushing record for 295 yards against the Browns. Then, he rushed for a season high of 2,066 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in just his 4th year in the league.
Best combination of Speed , Power, and footwork ever. Playing on a defensive dominant team and not being a loud mouth show off is why you never hear about him in conversations about the top backs of all time.
I remember him his freshman year at The University of Tennessee. Dude was a beast. If he and Peyton had been together more than 1 year they would have been unstoppable. Kudos to one of the best
I'm convinced that NFL Throwback loves the Baltimore Ravens!!! Jamal Lewis was the second coming of Bo Jackson his 2,066 yds. rushing season was statement to this!!
As a Steelers fan all I can say is much respect to this man.. never liked him because he was such a handful for our defense but I always respected him for his ability to run the ball. A true bell cow RB you want on your team. I remember that 2000 yard season like it was yesterday, he had a chance to break Eric Dickerson's record if I remember correctly in week 17 against my Steelers and we held him in check that game. I remember we sucked that year but the one good thing we did as an team was stop Jamal Lewis from breaking that record against us. Either way Jamal is definitely one of the most underrated and forgotten RB's of the 2000's.
