I can't play with anything but more classic style player's racquets. I've tried switching to modern tweeners, but they always feel like hollow toys to me. I've got to have a thinner beam, good amount of flex, and minimum 320g static weight. My current stick is the Yonex VCORE Pro 97H and I love it. IMO the only thing that could make that racquet better is if Yonex removed the VDM from the handle to improve feel. It just seems like overkill in a racquet with this much flex.

I still use my Becker Melbournes from 2012 and still love them as much as i did 10 years ago. After watching your review of the volkl c10 pro and I tried it out and I absolutely love the firm classic graphite feel of this classic. Mine 12.6 oz strung and its right in my sweepspot for frames. i get more spin out of my Beckers, even though they have an 18 x 20 string bed, but after demoing tons of new frames, I am always going back to the more classis graphite type of frames. They just feel more substantial than he newer cheap feeling frames of today.

I’ve went from pro staff 100 to countless 95’s then 97’s then blade 98’s to the ultra 100. Wanted obscene spin and power but didn’t want something as flexible as the pure drive. Bought the pure aero recently and the thing is an utter weapon. Won’t be changing back tbh.

It would be good if Wilson still made a 90 sq inch Pro Staff. The market is flooded with racquets in the 98 sqi range. I think a smaller 90 or 93 would have definite niche appeal. The high prices that old PS90s fetch confirms this.

@@bournejason66 Roger plays against much more powerful players than any rec player, so he needs a bit of free power. But for an old school weekend warrior like me who plays a lot of pushers, a 90/93 sq inch frame would be perfect. If you think there's no market for small frames, have a look on Ebay at the prices for old Pro Staff 90s. The point is there are plenty of options in the 98 sqi range, so there's no real need to make another model in this size.

This video really speaks to me because i have the same tennis racquet journey : i grew up playing with the pro staff 6.0, and always gravitated around these very control oriented racquets. Until recently, I used the Prestige MP and absolutely loved it. But at 4.0-4.5 level, and getting over 40yo now, its hard to overpower pushers in a long match… So I made the switch to a Blade 98 v8 16x19… wish me luck ;-) Also big thanks for yor channel. I grew up playing with your more traditional thin beam small head racquet with 90-95 sq inch frames. At 54, I still prefer a thin beam frame but in a 100-105 sq inch head. Lately, I have been using the Dunlop CX 200 OS and also the Blade v7 100. Both frames are quite forgiving and spin friendly with good control. The Blade 100v7 is more suited towards a modern topspin swing path where as the Dunlop frame can used with a modern or traditional swing path to be effective. The Dunlop is more of an attacking racquet and great at the net. I am still getting used to the Blade v7 100. Both are spectacular frames that fit well into my game and are very arm friendly 💪!

I used a Wilson Six One 95s for the last 5 years and found I had to modify it with too much lead tape for stability and plough through when playing against heaving hitting high top spin players. Last month I switched to. Yonex Vcore 95 an only had to add little led tape to 9 & # positions, but have found a large improvement with consistency due to the much larger sweat spot. I was already used to a 95 so I figured I may as well take the advantage of control that the 95 size provides just get a frame thats more forgiving.

Me too but I don't have a big choice on the matter due to arm problems. If I go stiffer (outside of high twistweight), my arm complains. I played with OS, thick beam, RA 73 in my 40s and they were great. One day my arm complained and I had to give up on that racquet. Most of the people my age (60s, 70s) use light, stiff frames and run into arm problems from time to time.

I have fallen in love with the Head MicroGel Midplus (98 sq. inches; 16 x 19 string pattern). It's my "fun" frame because it's so plush! As a long time tennis player, I love the feel of the ball on the strings! I won't win many matches with it because it lacks power and spin production though it cuts through the air well on serves making my flat serve more effective. Don't underestimate the importance of feel for the ball on the strings! Racquets that have feel and flex are the frames that I find most enjoyable to play with and that's what tennis is about (for me at least).

Yo! Loved the video. I too have fallen in love with the Head PT2.0 over the tweeners I grew up with. Idea for a video: what modern string setup pairs well with classic frames? With the tighter pattern I tend towards a hybrid setup, but I sacrifice spin for comfort and power. What strings give you your ideal balance of spin & power for these tighter string patterns?

Thank you for racket nerd stuff. It gives me escape from my problems. It's good to have a laugh and try certain frames. I have the Wilson T2000 and it's a bit of a shock to play with. It feels like it's made out of an old pram. The Dunlop Maxply is worth a few knocks as well - you can still get some welly on serves. Sometimes cheap aluminium frames can be good on certain shots as they pocket the ball like a lacrosse racket. The pro staff 90 is worth a try as well. I've done the best serves with the stick. My favourite racket I smashed a few months ago was the Dunlop Force 100S with dunlop silk strings - a brassy feel but great.

Just came back to tennis after nearly twenty years of squash! When I was a teenager my racket was a Prince CTS Approach, strung with synthetic gut at 62lb. Now I'm using a Prince Phantom 100x 305g with Solinco Confidential 55lb. Love this combination, soooo much control and spin, able to really rip the ball and not send it out. The frame really reminds me of the old Approach, love the old school type frame. Have tried power rackets and found them too stiff and not enough control. The Prince has everything I want from a frame.

They're heavy at 354 grams (strung, with OG) but feel fantastic in hand. The extra weight makes it feel just silly-stable and solid. Could my game improve with a different racquet? Possibly. Could you talk about an extreme situation of using a wood racket and a western grip? Does the western demand a light racket and a big head? I’ve recently gone semi-wester (from eastern) with my Prince 93 and I’m having no problem with getting tired - but full Western may not work. Also, I have a theory that most rec players are too conservative on their grip and don’t realize it - trying to mimic pro mechanics with a weak continental-eastern doesn’t work.

IMO, if you have a big serve and come forward to net this is the racquet you want and especially if you hit old school flat. Today's racquets with the exception of a select few are junk, top spin is very over rated...the spinners I play against hate how my ball stays low and skids through the court without coming up.
