1985 .22 hw77 for christmas and my mate got an anshultz 335 in .22 and my other mate a .22 Feinwerkbau sport 127 cold wind dark sky's and thick snow on the ground, the best day as a lad that i can remember airgunning with mates that are no longer with us.
'Every day is a school day'. :-) Sorry about the Vixen safety catch sticking (now fixed). Just hardened grease through non use - a bit like me really. I will use light oil (Balistol) in future. I removed the Anti-B trap because that used to be my HFT gun and when the 'STOP SHOOTING' was called I was able to de-cock my gun and not waste a cherished (washed, weighed, sized) pellet. The '55 barrel lock is adjustable and 'cams' the barrel back into the action. Tony - I do have a HW50 but its not got a pop up breech. Ive never even seen such a beast.
A really excellent video guy's, thank you! I have a HW77 and its absolutely superb. My parent's bought it for me,as a Christmas present, nearly 30 years ago, and I can still remember shooting it on a snow covered Christmas morning, fabulous memories! It still shoots superbly and I love it. Best wishes to you both.
Great stuff again guys. The HW77 mk2 was the most accurate Springer I ever had, still got an HW80 one of the most solid reliable spring rifles ever made. I remember lusting after a custom HW80 with a tyrolean walnut stock that Streatham Armoury had many years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it yet again guys, thank you and keep em coming.
Great video, mates, a phantastic idea to present part of the history of Weihrauch's airguns. I got a Haenel 303, purchased it in East - Berlin shortly after the Wall broke down. Haenel, like Weihrauch, Walther and Anschütz all come from the same region in Germany (Zella-Meelis and Suhl), but Haenel ist the only company that is still there. They don't produce airguns anymore but machine guns for the Bundeswehr ( army).
Wasn’t the pop up breech Weihrauch the HW57? I heard a few times you referred to it as the HW50? I believe the HW50 in its newest form is the euro version of the UK HW99s and there was an earlier HW50 model but that didn’t have the rekord trigger. Good video though chaps really enjoy the content 👍🏻
The HW50 was produced from the late 1940s in various forms. The early version were smooth bore due to Allied Occupation rulings. Some models of '50 had the Rekord trigger some the Perfect unit. (interchangeable). Ive also never seen a '50 with a pop up breech. I have heard that early HW trigger guards were carved from wood due to a lack of materials and a surplus of staff.
ive just picked up a 2004 ( thats when it was bought from a store ) 77 in a hard case, no pitting on the barrel and to be honest it looks brand spanking new, the previous owners father purchased it to add to his air arms guns etc it was his favourite gun and he only used it 4 times before oiling it and putting it in a hard case and then taking ill and passing away, his son kept it in its case and never took it out. realistically it cost me £120 and a 49 mile drive. Feels very solid and i cant wait to try it out, just looking for a local permission and jobs a goodun
I’ve only just discovered your show, but I’m a huge fan now. I’m a huge fan of Weihrauch and own most of Weihrauch’s current line up of spring guns. I’ll be binging on your past shows all weekend.
I have a scruffy example of an HW25 which needs some work as pellets barely leave the end of the barrel. It is very much a small and lightweight junior rifle, almost a toy tbh, the barrel is only 12mm in diameter, the OD of the cylinder is 25mm (under 1 inch) and the trigger is a basic non-Rekord version. I'd guess the questionable wisdom of marketing guns specifically for children is part of the reason it was discontinued, similar to how toy soldiers are no longer made of lead.
Great video, I’d happily sit through hours of airgun history vids. Interesting fact about all those manufacturers ending up in Zella Mehlis because that’s where the allied trucks dropped them off. Nice one Tony👍 HW55t is the tyrolean stocked version btw. I’m lucky enough to have one and they shoot like a dream. Cheers guys
I have both a 22 Mk1 HW77K bought in 1984 now tuned to 15.5 ft/lb, and a new 22 HW97KT Blackline also at 15.5 ft/lbs used for target and vermin control. Both shoot excellent groups out to 50 Metres using H&N Sniper Magnums at 17.9 grns. I have tried a TX 200 but couldn't get on with the side rachet anti-beartrap device. I have owned HW35's, HW80's in both calibres over my shooting years. Excellent video keep up the good work.
Pease sir,If you could only use open sights, which would be better, the Weirauch hw80, the hw 77 or the hw95 and which caliber, if could only use open sights? I would really appriciate your opinion.
Pleae, can you give me advice on what Whaireircher too buy. I'm in EU Croata, so I can haw max output ( not restricted yet:)). I hawe not big yard behind house so I can plink at 10/15meaters. But I haw a beautiful big ranch . So I would like too hawe somthing that is not crazy loud and can go with a scope of 40meatars+ ( on target). Also, I'm thinking, too, going with 22 and most interesting, too. mee is Weihrauch 77 whit straight berole. But I don't know how hard it is to fix the underliver. Cos too mee 3 things are most important: servis of my gun that is easy, litle noise and plinking whit scope on 40/50meatars Please litle help and thanks allot . Cos gun and scope cost almost 1000€ so I want to buy the best and not too bee dust colector .
Love it. Hw 35 a classic air rifle from Happier times. I sold my venom Hw 80 and the 77 but for some reason not the 35 ive had it since 1980 and couldn't even tell you how many Rabbits pigeons and rats ive shot with it. All with open sights i hasten to add due to the old 35 barrel droop being a pain packing out the scope mount but when shooting crossman premiers in on of these old gals you can get a 1 or 1.5 inch group pretty easy with irons at 25 yards. Great channel. Love it bring on the old ones.👍
@@greekveteran2715 Hello mate....hmmm for me the Hw80 in .22 ,,,,,I have never shot a 95 with irons ,,,,,,I've shot the 99 with irons , what a cracking little rifle.
@@manofkentcatapultsgunsando5069 I'm 6 ft tall, I was closer the the Hw80 in 22. cal, even though most people I read in forums, say that the lighter hw95 would be the best choice. The official dealer I called today, said he has 2 in stock, the hw 80 and the hw77 in Laminate stock! Il'll order the hw 80 in 22.. with the power it has, sounds like the real deal. Thank you very much for the help. I really appriciate your opinion, haven't shot a springer in more than 2 decades!!
Eye candy. I remember the Beeman catalogue well, and my old HW 35E. The new model (35E) shoots really well too. Nice video for all of the diehard Weihrauch fans. Thank you.
Excellent stuff , the shoot ~ off will be great , can't wait . PS. I'm still stinging over the silencer name ( wraith ) hope the guy who chose that is recovering in drug re-hab ...
Another really interesting video. I like the inside knowledge of the airgun industry Tony has, keep up the good work you two. You’ve got to do a Theoben episode one day!
Hi Lloyd, Bought a new TX200 .177 Walnut stock from yourself last October.Shoots great out of the box, bought a new Hw97 last month and the first thing I was told was throw away the internals and fit a new kit. which I have done.Still prefer the TX and this is what I would take on a desert island.Great show with Tony and yourself.
What is the name of the sound effect that Tony played? Dissident? Uprising against the oppressive audience? (All in good fun, of course). This was my favorite show, and I look forward to HW77 vs TX200 shoot out.
Outstanding show guy's and on my favourite topic as well, which is anything Weihrauch, is really great to know some of the history behind the product, keep 'em coming
For anyone wondering, Dr Robert (Bob) Beeman sadly passed away on August 25th, 2021 at the age of 89. Dr. Airgun, as he was affectionately known, was a professor of marine biology and started Beeman Precision Airguns, along with his wife, in 1972 from their home in California.
Normay was Norman May & Co. Back in the day... I had a couple of Mk 1 77s and neither had an anti bear trap. My Mk 2 which had the Arminius revolver cylinder release button for a lever release did have one and I removed it. Mk 3s had the button in the end of the lever. All wonderful rifles/carbines.
Interesting... I actually own a 35E, been in the family decades, also top marks on break barrel handling, I always without fail hold the barrel whilst loading, I saw the damage do when a mate at school used to laugh at me, he was lucky not to lose a finger or two when his bsa meteor sear slipped, I've seen more people load break barrels without holding the barrel than doing it correctly.... Makes me cringe 😣😣
Cracking show lads really interesting and knowledgeable history I love HW and own 3 a personally rebuilt 85 and 2 80 had many 77 s I always remember John Darling shooting a venom it was always a dream to own one cant wait for the next installment of your show the shoot off should be a eye opener cheers lads keep it up
i remember tuning my 35 when I was a lad..leather piston seal, it was so sweet out to sixty yards .177 H&N match, it was so accurate..brilliant bunny gun
Just came across this show by accident, brought back some great memories. I no longer shoot but have previously owned a Webly mk111,BSA Airsporter and my last one Weihrauch HW35E,a great rifle.Nice show guys.
Very good to see those older Weihrauchs, I had a very early HW80 that I bought in 1980, but sadly sold it five years later. Recently started shooting again with my HW99S and AA s510. Looking forwards to the next show and shoot off!
Guys can you do a special about Hänel air guns or Suhler Luftgewähr from the city Suhl.? My favorite is the model 300 , a brake barrel. Was my first ever air gun and I loved it!!!
Nothing wrong with the Hw98, superb gun. Not sure why Tony doesn't like the 85 although there were a few issues with the cocking levers galling on the cylinder .
I’m sat in a hospital bed after having some really horrible surgery feeling a bit pants and sorry for myself ‘ Then I find you guys have put a new one out and suddenly I feel a lot better. Thank you so much guys and girl. Love the show.
@greekveteran2715 Think the 95 doesn't come with open sights. What you should do is pick a few up, put them to your shoulder & the one you like the feel of you should buy, I would get a 77k.
Any news on when the much anticipated HW97/HW77 vs TX200/Pro Sport videos will be coming out ? Really liked your older videos, very good information and entertaining.
Hi very informative videos with nice guns, especially took my interest and wanted you’re advice because very soon I’m going to pick up a Weirhauch, the seller in Manchester has 2 guns, a hw35 e 1980 walnut stock, re blacked and mint, Or he has a 1981 mk1 hw80 re blacked and mint but with brass trigger and trigger guard, in your guys opinions and I know it’s a tough 1 but which is the best choice for buying and keeping hold of? With resale evaluation in mind years down the line and so on. the 35s a .22 and the 80 a 1.77. Any advice greatly appreciated thanks.
We are waiting until we have the shooting range finished to do a proper job but at the moment its under water . Looking forward to doing it too, its one of the most asked questions and needs an answer.
@@blackpoolairrifles9311 Thanks for reply, I would like a definitive answer with a proper test. Perhaps out the box, then tuned with just a drop on kit/polish etc would be perfect.
The HW85 is still available (although presumably a more recent iteration?) and so is the HW35E. I'd be interested to hear why the HW85 wasn't so indestructible and why Tony thinks it's the worst of the bunch. Forgive my ignorance, but I thought the only difference between the HW85 and the HW95 was the barrel length (the 95 being shorter) but it sounds like there are actually some other differences. The HW57 is the modern pop-up breech under-lever model rather than the HW50, I believe the HW50 is a break-barrel which is also designated as the HW99. I agree that a slightly scaled down version of the HW77 would be preferable over the HW57. Weihrauch could release it as the HW67.
Superb video- very enjoyable trip down Weihrauch memory lane! I own 2 x HW77K's- one being a Venom Lazaglide, I've owned it since I was 16 in 1987, the other being a V-Mach tuned 77. 2 x HW80k's- one being a Venom, the other being a V-Mach Lazaglide. I have just bought a very tidy 1980 HW35E- tuned with a Tinbum kit, which I cannot wait to get to grips with, they are a classic rifle, very well engineered, and very influential on later HW rifles eg HW80. The Vixen HW35 had chromed internal parts- including the piston, spring and guide. The barrel locking catch was also chromed. They came with a specific 'Vixen' gun bag, and a certificate back in the day. They are very rare and becoming collectible- I just missed out on buying a very nice one earlier this week. The Rekord trigger *IS* the finest trigger mechanism, I've never found a better trigger. I own a Theoben Evolution- that I bought from Lloyd about 3 months ago- lovely rifle, but the trigger is not a match for the Rekord. I also own an AA TX200- superb piece of British engineering- but once again, the trigger isn't quite as good as the Rekord. I suspect that straight out of the box, the TX200 might edge the HW77. However, when it comes to tuned versions, the 77 will win the top honours I suspect. A tuned 77 is superlative, and they are iconic rifles. I concur with Lloyd, if I had to take one air rifle on to a desert island, it would be a HW80k- they are hewn from granite and will last a life time. You cannot go wrong with a Weihrauch, it's that simple. Back in the 80's, the 77 and 80 were the Big Boys on the block, with the 77 completely dominating FT competition shooting. If you didn't have a 77, you weren't in the competition! Quality video- Keep up the great work lads! :)
I had an HW35 in the 80's which had an "Auto Safety" button. You pushed in the button for "Fire Mode". It also featured the annoying "Wierauch Click" at that time. I also fitted it with a "Rhino" - Post & Crosshair scope & Mount which features an Arrestor pin which dropped into the Arrestor hole in the gun to Eliminate Scope Creep!!
Hi just came across this great video insight .I'am lucky to own both a HW77 & TX200 would like to see your test between them do you a link please thanks
I diagree. It's the worst model Weihrauch have ever made. You can't fit a silencer and the pop up breach is rubbish. One of the reasons why they are bringing out a new version shortly that hopefully solves the issues.
@@LloydSchober I bought my HW57 13 years ago and have never had a problem with it or the pop up. Admittedly it is very hold sensitive and pellet fussy but spending a while getting to know it pays off. That's not to say it hasn't frustrated me in the past because it has. I think people give up with it too quick without really getting to know it. I bought a HW97 a few days back and I'm struggling at the moment but I know in time it will make good.
Thank you for a great show of the classic weirauchs, i have a Hw35 .177 from 1969,with JSB Exact diablo 8.44, 4.52 headsize, this is her chrono numbers: 216, 215, 216, 216, 216, 216, 215, 214, 216, 216 m/s, not bad for a 50 year old german lady...And she wear the leather piston seal….
great show ,gentlemen. but the first airgun is a hw30 s . the s version had the rekord trigger. i once had a normal one, awful trigger if you have been spoiled with the rekord trigger. as for the hw 35 i believe that was a bsf design bsf was a airgun company in bayern (bavaria) and the hw77 well have a look at the feinwerbau 300s the airgun that won everything in 10 meter championships. and if the rekord trigger is a real fine one, dont shoot the feinwerkbau 300s you wont find a better one..
My first gun was an HW77 with the same stock as shown, bought second hand for 150 quid. Three or four guns down the line I had a new TX200. Point is I can not remember shooting the 77 some 35 odd years ago. But I distinctly remember the sound and smoothness of the TX 25 years later.
Hi Guys, I have the Air arms TX200 walnut with a bit of brass bling and a HW97 Stainless fitted into a Lukas Parsley walnut laminate TAC2 stock and to be honest I really don’t like to choose between the two, I’ll be very interested in your head to head though. Great piece of informative chat. Cheers.
hi lads i'm new to this mullarky and about to get my 1st weirauch (a hw 99 s ) , I got the bug a few months ago when I found an old Webley hurricane pistol + 1 1/2 tins of ely wasp pellets in my dads wardrobe after he died , its like new and very accurate , I have the odd go at the part tin of the wasps but mainly use rws super domes , never knew how addictive this sport was haha
One of my favourite videos. Such likeable guys and so much interesting information on some wonderful rifles. Please do some more videos chaps this stuff is golden :)
Interesting video guys. Question: which air rifles made today will be the vintage rifles in the future? What will the classics be that we look back on?
@@MrJoshuaJJJ in the 70's people were still charging Giradoni bottles, that is before they became worth a king's ransom. We have pressure tested quite recently a brass and a stainless midas tube, which passed fine. so although there would be risks, and it would have to be filled with care, I think I would probably say a steel tube without rust might be ok for a hundred or so years?...ill let you know :)
I am a big Weirauch fan. And own a 95. You say the Walther LGV is not in the same ballpark as the HW77 or 97. They are fantastic guns. I dont think they are any better than an LGV. I have one too. Out of my Dianas, Walther, or Weirauch, the LGV has no competition...1/4 inch groups at 35+ yards with the right pellet. THEY are all good. The 95 is my most used gun. Just not near as smooth or accurate as the LGV. All good though. Love my Weirauch.
Pease sir,If you could only use open sights, which would be better, the Weirauch hw80, the hw 77 or the hw95? We aro not allowed to use scopes, so which one would be the best and with which cal? I was closer to the HW 80 with 22 cal. I would really appriciate your opinion.
Webley airgun, Christopher Thrale from 1925 to2005, I have ordered through Amozon online shopping and already paid! But I couldn't receive yet my Air Gun!Please details about webley airgun.
