Wow!! What a performance!! So many different styles in this song!! Not only acrobatic singing but also physically demanding!! Great reaction and analysis!!
I like mixing of styles, and this somewhat unusual performance somehow, reminds me of musicals, including the singing. It seems as if the singer is used to physical exertion, because his voice didn't show any signs of it. Very professional performance, Nemo has a large vocal range, a very clear voice and the singer definitely knows how to present itself. I really liked it.
Wow! My only Eurovision association was 50 years ago when ABBA won with "Waterloo". Quite different! Enjoyed your analysis. The opera references were interesting. Production was fantastic--the spinning plate, lighting, his costume. An experience for sure!
Lots of different styles delivered in an unusual but intriguing way. I think you are right about the words . They are using " between "zero and one " as a reference point for how they feel. They have found their own code written just for them. ❤️R/A🎼
I loved and voted for this ..Interesting to see how a voice which can go very high can be used in a non classical piece of music . Worthy winner hope you enjoy 😊
This is the first video i see of you, and i'm really glad to see that you sir, really know what you are talking about and have a great knowledge of music and realize all of the things in the song. Rellay Great reaction!
What an awesome performance combined with a fantastic analysis. I agree with your opinion that their lyric about being between 0 and 1 is a statement about being non-binary. Nemo is an artist who I will follow. Thank you for the introduction.
Wow Sir, I thank you and your friend for bringing this amazing performance to share with us! It’s always wonderful to see a true artist using their charisma and stunning talent to create a piece of art that foments relevant discussion and reasoning, like this beautifully complex and touching performance👌I loved Nemo’s flexible singing style, the song message, choice of outfit, passionate facial expressions, incredible level of energy and voice control (even when jumping, running, spinning, sliding, etc on that instable swaying thing😅) I also loved your discussion on the intricacies of the music composition and its potential references/meanings - you always amaze me with your musical fluency🎶Thanks again & much love from Brazil❣
I just wanted to see the reaction of the song, and I was assuming I'd have to skip a lot to avoid the analysis. And I ended up watching the WHOLE video without skipping and even leaving a comment LOL. Great analysis and concise opinions. I would love to see more reactions of Eurovision 2024 this year was amazing
OMG! Your comments are beyond genius!! To make the instant connection with La Bohême, James Bond, the between 1 and 0 ( non binary) plus your analysis of the Code itself is breathtaking! Scientifically speaking we have in our genetic CODE either one Y or none at all, so another "between 1 and 0 interpretation"? The code of many things is broken here! Just incredible! I LOVED this performer and the performance. I never heard of them before but Nemo is the little fish that also broke the code and went into the big ocean and judging by the age of the singer, they must have been exactly at the right age to watch this movie over and over again. I know my kids did. Also, the breaking of the code represents in my mind the movie the DaVinci Code ( 2006). Another highly mystical movie with many broken codes inside. Finally, the freedom one can feel by simply watching this performance is intoxicating. This freedom is to me the core of the performance. Them defying gravity with this rotating " earth-like" thing and them being on top running against the path of least resistance is fascinating and hallucinating. I just love this! No wonder they WON!! Thank you so much!!🥰😍🤩
I'm not the only one, that noticed, that our chromosomes there self, don't want to fit in binary classification. Seriously, it is amassing to think, that the precise point making the genetical difference between man and woman is where the rule of parity is broken. But the patterns that we recognize and allows us to communicate knowledge are very use and powerful. But we should be aware that they don't allows us to grasp on life or reality.
Very nice deconstruction analysis 😊 I loved this year's winner for their personality, message and voice, and I loved the mix of genres but I def appreciate this deeper understanding of the musical elements. Thank you very much ❤
It's a wild ride! I saw it just after the winners were announced and it blew me away! Their "wha uh oh's" are very catchy. I love all the different elements in the music. You mentioned Sam Smith. In the beginning of the song, the tension felt and sounded like 'Unholy". I'm exhausted for them. LOL I'm so glad your friend mentioned this to you. A very enjoyable reaction! Thanks.
As someone who is classically trained the control over their falsetto is insane and jaw dropping. also, as a queer man, I'm very happy for pioneers like nemo proving you don't need Good fashion to dress in gender f@@@ style XD
you always do such great analysis. i really appreciate you and the job you do. the operatic inspiration you brought up are correct and little fun fact: when nemo was younger, they actually performed as the papageno from the magic flute and the song was born as a remembrance of that. thank you for this reaction 🩷
Everything about the stage, lyrics, music arc, costume, and NEMO's performance use metaphor to illustrate perfectly the long journey nonbinary humans had and have for validation in a historically binary world. Just epic.
Your analysis is really the best as usual. I would however point out that breathing is part of the acting because we find it in their clip, which is also remarkable.
Well I hadn’t thought I’d find a classical musician reacting and commenting on Eurovision songs. This is AWESOME! I watch a channel called React to the K which is classical and jazz musicians reacting and commenting on Kpop. One of the reasons I enjoy watching and listening to classical musicians reactions and commentaries on music is that many times you all pick up things I missed or didn’t remember the language/terminology to describe (it’s been almost three decades since I was in band and I will say that every teacher I’ve ever had was right: “use it or lose it” is apt at how once it’s no longer a daily habit of using knowledge then it starts to get forgotten, not just with music and arts, but other things too: my French and Spanish comprehension continues to slip and I mishear things when conversing in those languages or when reading I can’t remember a word or words I come across without much more effort than I used to when I read/spoke more often in those languages). Great reaction and commentary! I like how you listen to half first and then stop and go back to discuss in more depth each section before moving forward and doing the same thing. It’s easy to follow your commentary that way. Thanks for making and sharing this video! I have subscribed to your channel to checkout your other videos and kinda hoping you’ll consider doing some other Eurovision songs this way, too (but only if there’s interest from your subscribers who’ve been watching longer of course).
Great analysis. I watch a lot of reaction videos to experience as many perspectives as possible, and I really appreciate your breakdown with audio examples included to demonstrate your points to the viewers. Some reactions are just people watching, but there is real worth to your contributions. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Subscribed. ❤
I really like how you look into every Detail of this Song❤. Do you want to listen to an also special live Performance? Listen to Jonathan Antoine singing "Unchained Melody "😊
As far as I'm concerned with the meaning of the 'between the 0s and 1s" lyrics, I'll defer to Chief Gordon from "The Dark Knight Rises": "You're a detective now, son. You're not allowed to believe in coincidence anymore." 😉
Very interesting analysis. Thank you. As you are analysing as classical musicians I'd like to suggest two, shall I say, continuations, of Nemo's entry. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_DqP-Xdj3jk.html A symphonic version, that Nemo worked on with his hometown orchestra (sad that there is no public, but I suppose it had to be prepared very quietly, as it has been released only a few hours after ESC) and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X9A5teA1BQg.htmlsi=Uz1SDP9nQmFUiz-6 an astonishing independent Brass orchestration that, I think is a masterpiece (also as musical video) for itself. I like to emphasize how Nemo is able to break the binarity of classical and pop music, or, as German likes to stress: Serious (E like Ernst) and Entertainment (U like Unterhaltungs) music. Gives quite a wider Sens to the non-binary question.
What an entertaining piece. I love the fusion of styles and influences. Nemo is so theatrical and has no problem handling all that physical and vocal gymnastic. And, my goodness, their balance is spectacular! I really enjoyed this performance and your analysis. Thanks. Not to be disrespectful, that platform is reminding me of a crazy skit by Will Ferrell on a Saturday Night Live Xmas episode, where he plays a singer on a malfunctioning platform… of course turning too fast… 🤢😂 I will leave the end of the skit to your imagination. 🤗
I could only find it on Facebook video under “Mark Jensen’s Family Christmas (Will Ferrell)… crazy! Make sure you have not just eaten before watching it… 🤢 Lol… By the way, I am totally obsessed with Nemo’s performance. It’s all your fault. Thanks.
Thanks for your analysis! As for “… somewhere between the 0s and 1s …”, I don’t hear the shift to major. For my ears it remains in minor, but Nemo might be playing with the pitch of the minor and major third here.
hi sir, i hope you could do a delailed analysis for Forestella's Ko Woorim (STARS - Les Misérables) would love to hear detailed analysis from experts on his performance.
Nemo was incredible and a worthy winner, but my fav was Bambie Thug (also non-binary) from Ireland, they were also fantastic but in quite a different way 😅
They were my favourite from the start. The song has all the elements to making a song huge and impactful. Very deserved win. Loved your analysis of it. Hugs from Sweden. I'm 52 btw, sometimes that adds to the comment in regards of experience, idk maby irrelevant ❤
You did a awesome job naming the references. There are voluntary references to carmen, mozart, james bond, check this out even if in french but with english caption, it tells you all about the song : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tK5xlvyNX1U.html. PS indeed astounding because of the breath control to jump and dance plus sing...
That's not a major chord from the bottom. It's starts with an F minor chord, too. Maybe you got confused because the fourth note is an E minor, which makes the three last notes make an A flat major chord. If that is precisely what you said, I humbly apologize. But it did sound like you were referring to an F major chord there, which it wasn't. Anyway, great analysis!
Thanks for the comment. At 8:35 it is a major chord 👍🏽The 4th note is an Eb, and Nemo has outlined F7 in his vocal melody. The repetitions are minor. Maybe it's major because Nemo is very out of tune on the 3rd (the second note in the sequence) and is singing the wrong note - that note certainly isn't perfect so it's possible - but it is still a major chord being outlined
Здравствуйте, Sir Hairless! Для меня это немного "Interstellar ", слишком много перфоманса, но Вы так хорошо разъясняете, так классно Вы подбираете выражения! Ценю Ваш труд и деликатность! Как всегда спасибо! ❤
Top 4 this year was so great that any one of them could have easily won. Overall top ten was better than it normally is in case of quality. This was a stellar year.
Chromaticism really brings out that non-binary character as well, if you think of filling in the gaps between the harmonic "hardpoints", if you get my drift. My musical vocabulary could use some work, but I'm sure you'll get me.
I love, love, love the message that's being transmitted and I think his voice is awesome. Very sadly though, I didn't enjoy listening the listening experience ..... I'm so sorry 😞. For me, it felt manic, hysterical and almost out of control - almost. I'm guessing that this may have been the composer's intention. That said, I'd love to hear his other songs.
The main composer is Nemo. I just listened to an interview with Swiss producers who have been working with Nemo for years. One said: Nemo has everything to get an international star. The only question is, if Nemo WANTS to. Nemo is an artist who makes no compromises on their art. Not for being famous. The other called Nemo a "free bird". Nemo likes to get inspiration but fights for what they want to sing and do on stage. And that Nemo doesn't care about money as long as they can live from music. Nemo explained in an interview that this was the journey of their life. From 9-13 Nemo sang in the youth opera and in a professional musical in Zürich. It's the first part, welcome to the show, it starts and everything seems going to go well. Then came the teenage years, Nemo was famous in Switzerland as a rapper and then with pop songs. Nemo won 4 Swiss Music awards in one night at 18. But Nemo felt everything was going to fast, they didn't know who they are. In the clip it is represented by the train, from one carriage to the other, here on the platform that throws them around. Then, at 19 Nemo took a pause. They disappeared from the public. We heard nothing of Nemo. That's when Nemo sits down in the clip, here when the platform becomes stable and Nemo can climb. And then the freedom, the color curtains in the train, the walking back and understanding and accepting everything they experienced. Here Nemo controls the platform. I think it's not a song for radio or to listen while doing something. It is chaotic, it's meant to be. I wouldn't like the song without the background.
Sorry, but this was pure nonsense. Pure sensationalism for its own sake. Those high notes were screechy with no support. I wish actual music would make a comeback.
Sorry, but those notes were not screechy - the last part was even more impressive after his physical performance. You do have to be fit and have a lot of control to do that. It fits his story perfect - he's performed in "The magic flute" so nice reference...
He only came 5th on televote, he only won thanks to juries, juries ad usual screwed everything up, so he is nit the true winner, Israel and Croatia are
They country that bought televotes is not the public's winner. And Nemo deservedly won, even though Croatia was my favourite. There's no denying this quality
@@maciekprochniak9539 wow you really got me there on that typing error! But here you go, off the top of my head: Vincent Bueno - Amen, Ana Soklic - Amen, Gjons Tears - Tout L'Univers. If you want to hear even more of the same, you can look for it yourself.
