Classics of Xbox 360's Marketplace | 20 Games Showcased 

I designed the feature to enable backward compat games to still be purchasable on Xbox One. Wish we could include non-back compact games, but there are a number of reasons with it wasn’t possible. You can always still PLAY these games on X360, but will not be able to buy them after that date. Awesome to see tube video highlighting some of the best!

Castle Crashers, Super Meat Boy, Battleblock Theatre, Pac Man Championship Edition were so cool. I remember Skin Pack 1 of Minecraft 360 having a lot of XBLA skins. Anyone remember those indie games like Avatar Warfare or Castle Miner Z that got delisted ages ago?

XBLA was a great idea. Not everyone had the time to get lost in the endless RPGs and adventure games that were so popular in the Xbox360 era, so it was good to have games like Runner2 that you could just pick up and play for ten minutes.

A lot of people dont know this but a handfull of XBLA games where giving physical releases via compilation discs. They where pretty limited in release though but Im guessing they're gonna shoot up in value now that the marketplace is going down.

Bomberman Live and UNO were my go to XBLA games back in 2008!

A look at The Maw would be nice, I have a lot of nostalgia for it.

I think for the PVZ segment it should've also been brought up that (outside of the current mobile release which is riddled with ads) it's currently the only way to play PVZ1 in proper Widescreen.

I forgot how good Popcap was during the 360 era.

I loves the Xbox 360 man, so many great digital games, shame the store's coming down but it makes sense. I'd recommend checking out motocross madness and a world for keflings if you can, those were a lot of fun. If you can get indie games working you should definitely try Avatar Legends, that game was amazing back in the day. Avatar rumble 2 was a good one too. I played a lot of avatar games lol

Dungeon Defenders is another great classic game from the marketplace that came out about the same time as All Orcs Must Die.

It's nice to see someone my age for once talking about the topic of Xbox 360 nostalgia, usually as of recently its people born in 2003💀

Game preservation should be getting infinitely easier, but is instead getting infinitely harder. Assuming you don't just pirate everything, which seems to be the only option at a certain point...

I absolutely love Fez, and I think it's really nice seeing it talked about here. And despite the controversies behind the creator, I think the game itself is a unique and underrated gem that deserves a lot more appreciation. (Also, the composer of Fez also composed the music for It Follows and Hyper Light Drifter, which I think is awesome)

Thankfully many XBox marketplace games got PC releases and are still available on sites like Steam and GOG.

I have about 6 or 7 of these games. Marble Blast Ultra was one of my first XBLA games and I had a blast (pun slightly intended). I was sad when it was delisted, cause while I can still play the base game, I never got around to getting the DLC. Oh well, at least I still have the base game and I have Marble It Up on my Switch.

Some great childhood memories going through the marketplace for long periods of time finding stuff to clear my points balance. I think I probably played Switchball and Marble Blast Ultra the most.

Well I did a listicle about digital 360 games to get, but there is an important note in regards to Trials Evo. There’s a PC port of the game, but it doesn’t include the two DLC packs. The full game is only on 360 and only if you’ve already purchased it. Thankfully Evo is backwards compatible so my Series X can be a Trials Box with almost the games. Minus the early flash games and 2 SE.

I was really hoping to see Splosion Man here, that was my absolute favorite XBLA game as a kid.

I haven't played either of those but idk if i would call marble blast ultra "monkey ball with objectives and Power-ups" since it also a jump that is used a ton for movement.

There was this rocky & bullwinkle game that was basically wario ware but centered around scenes from the cartoon, I had completely forgotten about it until recently, also a contra game made by the guilty gear people.

Wish we could do something to make these companies relist lot's of digital-only titles (like Jet Set Radio HD, Outrun Online Arcade, Yaris, Marvel vs Capcom 2 HD, Daytona USA HD, Doritos Crash Course 2, Aegis Wing, After Burner Climax for example) for a limited time for preservation purposes. Especially non backwards-compatible on Xbox One/Series titles and games that never got remastered. Wish this could be taken seriously (and for achievement hunting).

Actually, Marble it Up Ultra is the sequel to Marble it Up (classic), which was a spiritual sequel to Marble Blast Ultra. Anyway, good games.

Many 360 games are on Xbox X/S and One thanks to the backward compatibility, and they will still be avaiable after the 360 shutdown so they're safe at least Like i have Doritos installed in my Series S, is actually pretty good

They won't be gone because i have a moded 360!! Digital is not the way of the future but I'm thankful i can still play these games

Take a look at Taito's Exit and Exit2. Not backwards compatible and originally PSP games, the Xbox 360 versions are the only official HD version of these games.

One of my favorites back in the day was The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai. It also has a sequel called Vampire Smile. Has some great art and gameplay.

I was always disappointed that Fez was never made backwards compatible.

A lot of these games are also on Steam where you can play them with nicer graphics and higher framerates.

I’m honestly surprised Phil Fish didn’t delist Fez from XBLA for too many people playing it from gamer chairs or armchairs instead of on the couch. Maybe he’s just clinging to the platform since it has so few Japanese games.

So glad all the Rareware games are still intact.

Ahh Marble Blast Utra, quite the blast from the past that one, I remember being really sad when I recommended it to a friend to get just to be told they couldn't find it and learn it had been delisted.

Would love to see you cover Dust an Elysian Tail and both Splosion Man games whenever you come back to this topic! Also maybe some of those super low budget "Xbox live indie games" as they were called on the store page. Never played them, but I'm aware it was a similar thing to PS1 Net Yaroze where users uploaded their own amatuer games for free or sometimes a dollar. Not sure how many are still available, or how well they've been preserved by the community, but please check them out if you get a chance, might even be worth making a whole video about those.

Runner 2 is a big fav of mine (and 1 and 3). If anyone is interested in playing it, it has a physical release on at least the Vita. Maybe the PS4. A good time!

Nostalgia fuel right here and Inhate the XBLA is shutting down alongside the servers. Many of the games luckily have re releases, rematsers, renake etc or backwards compatibility.

I'd recommend games like Skate 2 and 3. Skate 2 is a game where you build up your rep as a Skater doing contests and working for magazines. Skate 3 is more so light-hearted in my opinion. Mainly with the glitches. Skate 3 is backwards compatible but Skate 2 isn't. Another game I'd recommend is Hydro Thunder Hurricane. It's an arcade racing game but with boats instead of your usual cars. It's a fun time solo or with friends. Especially if you use the rubber duck against friends.

XBLA really brings me back

2024 will be quite a sad time to those who never upgraded from their Xbox 360. I'm glad I was able to experience the Banjo games through the 360 XBLA marketplace.

I hope you didn't forget about Guardian Heroes and the Virtual On games.

Holy crap... Starting this video with music from FEZ hit me so freaking hard. I can't believe it was ten years ago that I had my Microsoft points at the ready to buy it on day one. The beauty of experiencing what was essentially one of the first 'ARG' videogames, where the internet came together to discover the games deepest mysteries. It's both poignant and painful that some of those mysteries still haven't been solved to this day and the original release of the game will be removed for a vast majority of people. I have so many wonderful memories of XBOX Live Arcade; from Shadow Complex to Braid; from Limbo to Super Meat Boy. Every piece of tech nowadays has a digital storefront so they have lost their novelty; but back then there was truly nothing like exploring the strange Indie Marketplace and watching Robert Florence's painfully underrated weekly roundup - 'The Independent Charles Show'. RIP XBOX Live Arcade, you weren't perfect, but you were first.

On preservation of XBLA, I’m a tiny bit concerned over the web/api output being archived and publicly available, as well as marketing materials. On the games side, there still needs to be an archival effort, but i’m happy it isn’t an xbox one primary/secondary console solution, sorta worried for the future of that O_O

Seeing this is kind of heart breaking, but also not something I'm impressed with, the 360 almost feels completely replaced by anybody but a true small niche market that requires the console for something so specific (I'm one of those, Senko no Ronde hasn't seen ports anywhere else...). I got way late to the party due to my economic situation, back in 2015, when the console was already doing the last breaths of console releases, I already had issues with delisted games back then (Trouble Witches stood the most on my head during that time...), and even saw the delist case of games and demos like Soul Calibur IV, but regardless the console made probably some of my happiest hours during some genuinely hard times, the voice chat was super nice and felt like a prototype discord to a certain extent. I already have a couple consoles, 1 of them is modded, the other is not, I might buy some stuff for the sake of support, but I'm of course going to add the mod later on. This was both nostalgic, and a nice selection of things I didn't know about, thanks for this! Some of my favorite XBLA titles are mostly arcade ports, some of them are already somewhere else like Radiant Silvergun, but others like the Virtual-On series remain best on Xbox for having stuff like LAN play, making offline tournaments much easier for me.

Two games I hope get covered next are ilomilo- a 3D puzzle game that plays a bit like the ps1 game Kula World but with 2 bean people instead of one ball. Believe it or not Billie Eilish wrote a song about it- 'ilomilo' The other is Eets, another puzzler that was the first game from Klei Entertainment, the people who made Don't Starve. It's a bit like Lemmings meets The Incredible Machine. Thanks for covering this before everything shuts down!

Hang on a second. I thought it was just the MARKETPLACE shutting down. That is to say, any game that has a page on the modern xbox storefront (including a large amount of games on this list), will still be fully available to buy. The only games we need to worry about are those WITHOUT a modern storefront page. Am I wrong? Are they literally removing all 360 games?

I just hope that they'll make one final patch that lets you play the games from the long gone Indi store offline. I've collected a decent amount of games over the years, trying to find the Diamonds in the rough, pretty much anything that wasn't borderline hentai or a Minecraft ripoff. I have plenty of good and weird games on my 360 and I would hate to have to mod it just to be able to play them
