Tech skating can create frustration and madness, but Smolik shows how it's really a blast. And that boardslide ender! So rad. Ernie Torres introduces a classic from the 1998 Shorty's vid.
Fulfill the dream was a staple of my youth. I grew up in Santa Barbara and knew Jesse and Sammy. I skated the tea bowls (that spot up in the mountains that they do the outdoor skating at). I watched this over and over again on VHS. There’s something about the music, flow, and personalized introductions that make this shit one of a kind. I ran into Muska a party a few months ago and he was happy to reminisce about these days.
My fav thing about Smolik is how much fun you could see he was having. He never took s**t too serious and that goofy, laidback attitude never keep him from killin it. Total embodiment of youth. So endearing. Damn skateboarding is so awesome. What sport embracing youth, art and free expression more than skateboarding. (Baseball is awesome too though.) 👀
He'll yeah. Me and my dudes probably did skate for 12 hours some days. I loved it so fucking much! I had an injury that eventually lead to me having a very bad heroin addiction. Definitely would of did things different if I knew what it was going to happen.
My old as dirt parents waited in line at Church of Skatan to get an autographed shorty's deck, and Smolik signed that thing in the late 90's or early 2000's. I learned to skate on and wrecked that board. Learned half my tricks at san marcos high school, in the video, where I'd graduate in 2009. Thanks for making my childhood, Peter Smolik. You'll never see this but you formed my childhood memories and laid the foundation for the best days of my life, and I thank you.
@@Trillmxtic im just asking to get your opinion. You really think muska was better then smolik? All we saw muska do was 50/50 n boardslides type stuff. Smolik was so tech flipin in n outta tricks. Thats why he got voted best part
Smolik had so much style it was insane. I was in 8th grade when this tape dropped and me and all my friends all bought the VHS tapes with our parents money lol smolik and Brandon Turner on the storm was legendary as well
I basically got all of my "skater swagger" from Fulfill the Dream. Shorty's, Black Magic, Ghetto child... I used all of their products almost strictly. I can't skate anymore, but it's still so cool to watch.
Man...that opening trick with Chad/Smolik...back in 1998 it was almost insulting or a playful gesture when someone would land a flawless trick on an obstacle..then the next trick by someone else on the same obstacle would 1 up them. We'd call it 'show'd up' or 'showing someone up.' Our city was littered with skaters - fast forward into 2019 and the only people I see are a few college people with boat/yacht shoes on long boards. Its an era most people will never be able to enjoy again. Never forget!
“Fulfill the dream” was my first skate video back then, and this was my favorite part! Dude just straight murders it so hard! 🤯 the style, the tricks, the delivery... dude! 🤯🤯🤯🔥🔥🔥
I didnt see this video till summer 2003 and loved this part the best and then heard lots of people talk trash about it cuz he was "too techy" It was the Jamie Thomas era where it was just all about giant stair sets and stuff i suppose
aww you lucky bugger, those were my favorite color of all time. i also liked the gray ones and the blue/black..... such a good shoe. i hope they still fit you, never wear them outside of your house.
Because he's awesome, and the dude rips. Wow, that was deep and hard thought. Smolik's FTD is still pretty epic. I drew a little too much inspiration from this part back in high school. Yes, I'm that old.
Wow this dude, I think everybody was blinded by Muska that they forgot Shorty's had a whole team, and of rippers! Peter Smolik making these tricks that still I dont see people doing look chill, my buddy had this video so we would watch and he would obsess over Muska, and I did too of course how could you not, but I was like dude I think this guy is better and he got pissed at me lol, stand by my word, even tho Muska had a lot of raw talent that he didn't film lol, he said he did a lot of them same tricks filming but when he wasn't filming he tried harder tricks, but when he filmed he did the tricks he knew he had on lock
