Thoroughly decent man here. More to life than money, easy to say I know but it's true. A story behind every episode. The owner of this bike is very fortunate. Again, a fantastic transformation.

I have worked at a non-profit cooperative here in the U.S. for almost a decade now, this on top of another 30 years in the industry. We take in dozens of bicycle donations weekly, and do full service for customers as well. This sort of restoration is practically an every day occurrence in my shop. I can see you take pride in, and do top quality work. The one thing I personally would add to a budget bicycle is a spoke protector. I know most bicycle enthusiasts scoff at them, but they do work at preventing spoke damage if a derailleur gets out of adjustment, banged up, or whatever. Cheap derailleurs are rather wobbly to begin with, so in my opinion a spoke protector is cheap insurance and do not deserve derision.

@@beanz6745 my Son films & edits the RU-vid and often isn’t here when the bikes are collected. I also never reference the owners name on any social media to protect their identity as a lot of the bikes we do are high end & we don’t want to aid anyone finding them who shouldn’t, so sadly as fun as it would be to see, that treat is for me only. Be sure to subscribe & we’ll see you next week (always Wednesday at 7pm) with a Trek that we have filmed just today.

Better he doesn't. Otherwise it could turn into something like the early 2000s MTV show "pimp my ride" where the owners got all religious each time (saying o.m.g. a thousand times in a row) when seeing their refurbished ride after pick-up.

Last week a relative brought me her bike for a 'service'. I was horrified at the state of it and told her it was 'beyond economic repair' (even though im an amateur but love working on bikes and give my time free!). After watching this i've decided to give it a go, so thanks for the video, advice and above all Inspiration, i'm going to give it a go!

In US, I doubt ppl will do it under 150. But you can buy a bike at that price. So ppl only do it for sentimental value. These entry level older bikes don’t really worth too much to justify the cost

It is an incredible job, though my bar for "throwaway bike" is very high. It has to have a cracked frame/forks for me to consider it unrepairable. Even then, I'd strip it for parts and recycle the frame.

Love this. I have a 30 year old Diamond Back Topanga. Lot of sentimental value. Well tempted to do a job like this on it but probably it’s too far gone. Certainly would have the patina look. These brilliant videos always fire me up into taking on the project. Well done in saving another bike from the scrap heap.

Love this video, I have a 2010 Specialized Hardrock Sport sat in my shed in bits. I bought it off a friend whose ex used to use it as a commuter but never went near it with any lube or even a pump!! I sourced “new” shocks for it, a replacement rear shifter which was all bashed up and a new bottom bracket. Four years later, it’s still in bits!! I just need the time and confidence to make a good job of it. Going to take your advice re: stainless steel cables and accessory bolts.

I know this video is a few months old, but just found the channel, and 'm working my way theough the back catalogue. Quick question, what oil are you using on the shifters?
@Bikespeeds
@Bikespeeds 2 года назад
It would actually depend on the shifter type and what issues they do or don’t present but in this case I used a spray lubricant with Teflon surface protector in it. The one I use is made by weldtite and called TF2

All the work we show are customers bikes and there’s often a line drawn to the videos by them alone. In this case the forks felt perfect and works as they should so this wasn’t required.

Great video and channel. Living in the US, I’ve not heard of that “t” polish you use before the resin polish. What is that exactly? Thanks.
@Bikespeeds
@Bikespeeds 2 года назад
“T cut” is a paint restorer we put on/ take off before polishing which completely removes the road film from the frame so there’s no contaminants before the polish, it is a British product but I’m sure it’s available in the US somewhere!

When the video is sped up it looks like we mist it over the whole bike but it’s actually quite a direct spray that we don’t point near the brakes and they work completely as they should 🧡⚙️

It’s always a juggling act, you have to remember this was not a restoration video. It was a commercial job. With all the videos we just pick a bike going through that has something of interest for a video. We are slightly constrained by time and cost. Once the channel grows we might pick up some sponsors, then we can spend longer and inflate the costs maybe!
