Clean Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) on a 9th generation Honda Civic (2012 - 2015)

This car is a 2014 Honda Civic EX and has 130,000 miles.
The MAF sensor in this generation is a little hard to clean but not impossible. It is worth to keep it clean so the computer can create an optimum mix of fuel and air and maintain a good MPG.
Buy a can of Mass Air flow cleaner and will last a long time. You can also use this cleaner on the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor, which is a lot easier than the MAF.
Why is important to keep the MAF clean? The MAF sensor measures the airflow going into the engine and having an accurate read improves the air-to-fuel ratio, delivering improved performance (better miles per gallon).

thanks for this.👍👍 really hate how honda made the 9th gen so difficult to clean that part, but the other generations much easier to access. the big flexible hose in the back gets brittle and can crack with removing the air filter housing, i see yours patched up there too.

Yes. I agree. I replaced mine. That video is published today. I recommend to get a new air intake hose for $10 just in case. If it cracks you will get code P0171 (mix too lean). I know. This is a 2014 EX. I have another 2017 and 2020 and they are a piece of cake. This air box is way in and you can’t pull the MAF upwards if you don’t remove the air box.

Hahah you dont gotta unplug the battery to do this bro.. there is a huge misconception on cars that when you do electrical shit you gotta unplug the battery its absolutely false. As long as the key is out of ignition, car is not on, you’re good.

You are right. I remembered I disconnected the battery because in this job I was also cleaning the throttle body, which makes sense if you are going to bother on removing the air box.
