Clean-up of the Thompson river cons.

Due to many people asking, I have created a video if the complete lean up of the sluice cons I got from our Easter Thompson river field trip. It is a very long video and if you don't want to see the whole process, but want to see the gold, skip to the last few minutes. For this clean-up I used the clean-up sluice with the Gold Hog washer matts. I am very impressed with the washer mats from Gold Hog, in fact I'm impressed with all their products. These were some of the most difficult cons I have worked with as the black sands seamed very heavy and the gold was so unbelievable flat it would not sink through the black sands.

No Dan. Its not boring at all. Actually, its interesting to see a realistic time description of the work involved. Most think its easy thinking gold jumps out of the water. Its interesting to see the process, technique and patience. Im in Puerto Rico and I go to where the conquistadors exploited the rivers. Just so happens that Grandpa used to take me to the river and tell me about an old "americano" that spent a few months in the area panning for gold. That stuck in my head and now that Im retired, I can do it with time to spare. Just imagine a tropical jungle and a river that winds into corners and lots of gravel banks not touched for hundreds of hears. This is due to all the changes that the island has had in economics whereas people forgot about gold prospecting. People are too busy making a living with no digging. Gramps never told me where the old timer did his thing but recently thanks watching videos like yours I have pinpointed the areas worked by the prospector over 55 years ago. I enyoy seeing you controlling the youngsters that are distracted and talking. You do a great job and i admire your patience and charisma. Thanks for sharing and if you ever make it to Puerto Rico just let me know. Oh yes, I have found color looking for pay streaks. Just waiting for the river to calm down so I can stay down there camping for a week at a time. Thanks again.

My Dad still does panning in Adjuntas, PR and in Orocovis, PR. Two spots that is rich with gold nuggets to gold flour. He goes to the banks of those rivers after a good storm and they gone down. Sometimes he takes several buckets to fill up with river dirt and brings it home to play with the dirt. In few weeks he be moving to the states since he has health problems so if anything go to those two locations also. Once he lives with me, he will teach and correct my panning errors but do know we both be having lots of fun in the Appalachia mountains panning for gold.
@edelgado1
@edelgado1 3 года назад
@@chaielmaetheius7804 Yes. Those two municipalities has gold no sweat. People here do not believe it which is good. No need for a herd of people going to these rivers and destroying them. I go with my dog and camp out. Check this out. I do digging and panning at night. 2 am I’ve been still at it. My dog right there digging next to me. When I finally put the material on the sluice box my dog used to take the rocks used to lodge the sluice box in the current. Doesn’t do it anymore. I’m glad to know your Dad has the hobby. Like I said, the majority don’t believe it and say it’s a crazy idea to be digging around. 🤣 Frankly I don’t want to convince anyone. The areas are kept clean if it’s only a couple of crazy guys.

And we can skip or play at 1.25 speed if we're in a hurry. I paused and made popcorn. Thanks very much for giving us what we asked for.

Again, another wealth of knowledge shared by Dan. It is very interesting to see all the equipment you could buy to do all of this. And then Dan shows us how it’s used. I say it all the time. . . . . . . . It seems like an awful lot of work to get so little unless you stumble on some huge hunk of gold. Something tells me that doesn’t happen too often! I still love to watch Dan. His delivery is always so smooth!! Thanks. Dan 👍👍

Thanks. It's almost like watching that teacher started watching three months back that was teaching a class of 16-18 y/o on Mining and prospecting. It did have a bit of dead air but the importance of it was the process more than conservation. I do think once you got it down to a smaller amount a blue bowl or miller table would have been faster than the Garrett sluice. It's just really too slow for that material. But with what you had; you would have to modify the blue bowl by adding a mat to it so the gold wouldn't slide. And maybe it would have took just as long but as it was running you could have packed up the equipment you used to condense the material down as it was running and in a way it would have saved you time overall. If you have a gold drop; it too may have worked; maybe. As you said it was a floatly material.

Looks like some coarse gold in there too, in a creek if I saw that I'd be looking for the quartz! Maybe add some macro zoomed end pics in future to see structure. Gold raw out of the rock can look very intense and even steam vent type patterns of formation can be seen. Like small crystals of gold looking more like bacteria formed it..

Great job and an excellent video. Fantastic clean out! Seeing you go thru the motions as they say shows us tricks, and challenges of each setup and each running environment and equipment configuration. I noticed you have to fight the mat to get it out of the sluice without flinging gold everywhere for example. How many grams did you end up with once ya dried it out?

Brilliant once again Dan : ) Never dull, always relaxing and stress-free watching your channel. That's a nice pan of gold! I was wondering - if you had a centrifuge you could maybe spin the gold to separate it from black sand? Have you ever tried it? You could create a centrifuge from an adapted food blender.
