My friend has the original launch model and he’s never cleaned it once. I went over to his place the other day and that thing sounded like it was gonna explode, so I sent him this video and it took him a while to clean it, but when he did he told me it’s about 2 times quieter.

That is amazing! Thank you for sharing that with me. It sounds like that console had one foot in the grave. I'm very happy that he was able to bring new life to it, and thankful to you for telling him about my video. :)

I've opened up one of these before. It was an 80 GB CECHE01 model. I tried repairing it twice after it got YLOD, no luck. Now I got this exact model. So far it's doing pretty good, I just wonder if I need to make any mods to keep it from ever overheating. I've seen some videos of people who have drilled holes underneath where the fan is, as well as people who've just cut a big hole exposing the fan. I'm debating on trying something like this, but I'm too afraid of damaging the console. Any advice?

I would not do this, it completely goes against the airflow design the engineers did, they knew what they were doing in that aspect. the problem is faulty nec tokens or bump failure on the gpu / cpu. Just keep your console clean, apply new paste and it will help airflow. also doesnt hurt to replace thermal pads if they are oxidized to hell. If you really want a near permanent solution to the death of fat ps3's you can find ones on ebay for 600+ where they have replaced the gpu with a slim one. Me personally im just not playing ps3 games on mine and only ps1 ps2 to try and minimize how much load it has.

Hmm, wondering why you wouldn't try to clean or blow out the powersupply, and especially gain access to optics to clean it.
@Vigerp
@Vigerp 6 лет назад
It all depends on how deep you want to go when cleaning a console. When it comes to the power supply on this particular model, I've found that the little plastic tabs break easily. Basically, most of these videos are aimed at people who have never taken any consoles apart, and so I try to not cover topics that might cause more harm than good. That being said, I do appreciate all feedback, as it just makes my future videos better. Perhaps I should cover all aspects, but let the viewer know that newcomers might want to skip certain steps. :)

Yes, opened to clean my optic, and had trouble with playing
@Vigerp
@Vigerp 6 лет назад
What did you use to clean the optics? It is imperative that you remove *all* the moisture from the lens. Basically, if there is any residue on the lens then the laser will get distorted, and it won't work properly. When cleaning a lens you should only use isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip. Also, be sure not to put any kind of pressure on the lens, as that can push it out of alignment - causing it to malfunction. Basically, optics are scary stuff, and it is easy to damage them.

Yes, alcohol and Q tip, there is a slight possibility that I applied too much pressure, I kinda doubt it though.

My 60gb fat has the 19 fins fan, this one has only 15. Also I just cleaned mine and never got any error light, the paste was completely gone which I replaced with the IC thermal pads instead.

there is an easier way if u dont want to clean it entirely if u take out the power cable hold the disc ejection button and plug the power cable to the ps3 and boom after 2s it should turn the fans on the max settings and clean

No sd card/memory card slots? Mine is a A01 version and I’d love to see you clean one of those. I only took the top off and didn’t get down to the fan. Too nervous I’d mess up hooking cables back up. I feel more confident now but this one looks like it’s missing parts my ps3 has

Yeah, the Fat PS3 has a lot of different versions. I think it might be the model with the most variations. However, the basics are still the same, even though a few things are different on the insides.

I have an A01 too and I'm about to clean it next weekend. Like you I don't think I'll go past the top cover. Did you ever go all the way in to clean it out?

I know this video is very old but I hope on your other videos you are more descriptive of what you are doing. I just tried to disconnect the cable of my disc drive and rather than it disconnecting nicely, I ripped out some small wires from the circuit board and bent the hell out of them. Some better instruction on how to grip them is definitely needed. And when putting the ribbon cables back in, it would help if you show which side of the cable is supposed to face which direction. I think I destroyed my PS3...

Did you first attach the front side? The top snaps in place by attaching the front first, then closing down the back end. Think of it like the lid of a treasure chest. You first attach the lid, then close it down.

Why that ps3 is so different from my ps3 fat 80gb ? I mean different inside because the outside is equal!
@Vigerp
@Vigerp 4 года назад
They made several different models of the PS3 Fat. They are all slightly different on the insides. However, the general layout is still very similar.
@LEXxTALIONS7913

@@Vigerp thanks for answering. I didn't knew that. I mean i know that they made different models but i think that the (ex: ps3 80gb fat) was all the same, because I'm watching some ps3 whit the same year of fabrication and the same model (80gb) and the inside isn't the same! But maybe is because of USA different model from Europe.

I open up my ps3 on the topside and some little silver toothlike thingy fell out of it. Can anyone say what it is?
@Vigerp
@Vigerp 4 года назад
It sounds like it would be one of the screw anchors. Basically they sandwich between the two halves and act as screw supports. You will find their locations on along the outer frame. Now to try to tell you where they would be without showing you... Try putting the screws back into the shell so that they are sticking out from the bottom. Hold it over the other half of the console and see where the screws line up. See if you can find one screw that doesn't seem to have a solid hole to connect to. Now see if that silver piece fits into that spot. Jeez... that was a really bad explanation, and I apologize.
@kimberlyrose984
@kimberlyrose984 4 года назад
That happened to me and I think it goes to the front lid. I tried putting the safety torque screw back in and it wouldn’t screw down. Then I remembered that clip that came flying out when I took the 2nd front cover off. I put the clip inside and it then screwed down. :)
