Joey, I just happened to think about this. You're actually recycling your water. By draining water into your yard, it is going back down to your well system. Being purified through the earth. Pretty cool!

This is why I love Joey so much, he could have made it to where he wouldnt have any work other than turn valves. Instead. He shows that you can still keep up fish tanks just like everyone else with that many gallons. Inspires more people to keep fish.

Joey. If you put a ball valve somewhere on the drain pipe, you can just close the valve every time you move from tank to tank, then open it again. Water will get sucked out and you won’t have to go lift the hose anymore.

I have 3 large tanks in my office, a 300 gallon, a 150 gallon and an 80 gallon. By far the the thing that takes the longest when doing maintenance is waiting for the water to drain. It takes me about 2 hours to do 30% on all 3 tanks. I really like that large siphon method to help speed things up over using a pump. It often seems like the best ideas are obvious in retrospect and Im kicking myself for not using bigger hoses in the past.

I use a garden hose put through a hose bender for a washing machine drain with twist screw clamps to adjust the hose length to drain my tanks. So I can do small and large tanks with it. I have it linked to a tap in my laundry with valves so I just flick a switch to change between draining and filling. Because I can adjust the host length in the tank by how much is coming out of the washing machine hose bender I can set it to drain and walk away and it will only drain to the end of the hose in the tank.

Hi joey. Im actually curious that why you did not opt for the easier and convenient way of water change but having additional hole in the tank for draining or refilling the water? Ofcoz if u install total two you can have the flexibility to drain 30% or 50% by just switching on the valve.

I have two 33 Gallon tanks, mines take about 15-20 minutes to drain around 60% with a hose into my bathtub, I have 2 so I drain them at the same time, then I have a hose I connect to my shower I use to fill them, im the opposite where it only takes about 5 minutes to fill each tank but it's slower to empty. You could possibly try using the pressure of your shower to fill them? I keep 2 Nerite Snails in each tank so I rarely have to do anything to the glass as I only keep their lights on 7 hours a day so not much algae grows and they eat it. Maybe once a month I clean the glass. My filters I clean every about 4 water changes or once a month, one of my tanks has 2 filters, one Fluval U3 and one Canister, the canister filter i've had for 4 months and haven't cleaned it yet. The U3's are easy to clean and each time I just lift the lid and take out the 3 pieces inside, take them into the bathtub and fill a bucket with the hose from the tank water swish them about squeeze them and put themm back. Only about once every 6 months would I take the actual filter in to clean it from anything inside it. Usually takes me around 30-50 minutes once a week, 20 minutes of which is just me starting them then waiting.
