Cleaning Latex Paint Off Carpet

Wow Robin, that is a great tip! I just tried it on a paint drop that had been dried into the carpet for almost a year. It worked! I used 60 grit sandpaper. Took a little "sanding" but it came out in less than 5 minutes. Thanks! I'll add this tip to the video.

I used alcohol (70 %) with hard scrub brush to loosen paint on dried paint spots. It took time and a lot of elbow grease to loosen, some light spots came out, but harder layers took time. Then I followed this information with Dawn dishwashing liquid and used warm water and it came out. Takes a lot of time and effort but it works! 😊👏🏾👏🏾

Hint: HOT water is more effective than cold water. Latex is a kind of rubber. The heat causes to "rubber" to soften up, absorb water and disintegrate.

I tried the above video method on three day old purple latex paint spilled on light beige carpet. It looked really bad. I used a mixture of 3/4 water and 1/4 ammonia. The trick is to heavily soak the paint stain for at least 3 minutes before cleaning with a cloth as shown in the video. I had about a dozen nasty stains. They are all gone now. The longer you wait the more difficult it will be to remove the paint stain. Have fun!

After the primary stain is removed, a terricloth cover on a car buffer will put 300-600 strokes per minute on that spot. Works better than elbow grease. Much faster. Also works great for spot cleaning any carpet problem.

Wow! Dude you just saved me from having a Hell of a time with this. I see this is an older video but I'm going to comment anyway in hope that you'll see it - and that any other people needing this helpful information will read it. THIS WORKS ‼️👍🏼 I'm in my "painting room" tonight mixing up another batch of *black* latex interior paint that I use as a base coat for whatever media I happen to be painting on such as canvas, glass, wood, ceramics etc... I mix the latex paint with Floetrol, GAC800, Liquitex pouring medium & a little H2O. It works as a great basecoat for the acrylic paints that I use. As I was pouring the latex paint into the bucket, it ran down the side and got on the cream colored carpet AND my hardwood floor!👀 There is a tarp down but obviously I was too close to the edge lol. I was like, "Oh shiaat, now what!!"😲🤦‍♀️ I did a search here on RU-vid and your video was the first one to come up. I did what you said and sprayed water on it and on a clean white rag. As I gently started dabbing it up (thankfully the paint was still wet) it instantly began to disappear! It ended up coming completely out and you can't even tell it ever happened. So thank you SO much for posting this short, to the point and extremely effective video! Take care and happy painting! ✌🏼

I'm actually putting plastic down on the floors now, then laying two layers of drops, I also keep a hair drier with me to help get paint from a carpet.

This worked!!!! I really can't believe it, but figured it couldn't hurt. My paint mess had been there about 6 days and was already smeared. It all came out with water, a towel, and elbow grease. I felt a little silly because it took about 10 minutes. Thanks for the advice.

hi I got some primer on my wood door how can I get it off ? I used water but it didn't work.

I'm not sure exactly what you're seeing, but when I look at it (not on camera) I can't find it... The camera or lighting might make it look like something is there. In any case, if somebody feels the spot has not been entirely removed, they might try a little dish soap, or even rubbing alcohol, although I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol without testing it on the carpet in a hidden spot to make sure it won't discolor the carpet.
