Hi Stewart, It's also a good idea to stop down the lens to the max, say F22 or whatever the max is for any given lens. Also take a long exposure, say 30 secs. Any small specks will show up like great globs of dirt when zoomed in. Don't forget to look at all the image. Great vid mate.

That is such a good point you make about the end caps Stewart. You so often see people drop them into a pocket and then put them straight back onto the lens! Great video as usual :-)

i always clip my lens end cap to my body blank (i now use a 22mm pancake lens as a body blank for 'always ready mode) to keep them as clean as possible. its worth mentioning on the vid to never use canned or high pressure air to clean any part of the camera, even the outside.

After I paid £50 or so a couple of times, I've always cleaned my sensors. I agree that stopping down with a long exposure and low ISO is a good idea as you can see the spots more clearly. I find that a sensor loupe with LEDs helps enormously too as I find that a single swab often isn't enough and can leave smears. I use a second (new) swab to wipe the smears away. Good video mate. It reminded me to check my sensor as I'd not cleaned it for some months and, yes, it needed a clean. thanks Stewart for another great video.

i have an off topic Q about flashes for you Stewart. i'm very new to photography, what i want is an off the camera flash that i can trigger completely independent of what the camera is doing. the idea is to have a dark room, run the camera on long exposure and use a remote trigger to fire the flash to expose the subject. what do you call that type of set up? or do all off camera flashes have that ability. camera in question is an M50 but that shouldn't matter as i'm looking for a completely remote setup, probably using multi flashes, maybe it would make a good vid topic also.

You will most likely need to wireless trigger system, most companies will do that just make sure it is compatible.

Hey question for you, at 6:05 you do the auto clean. My sensor on my new EOS R makes an annoying clicking sound when it goes through the auto sensor cleaning process. Is this normal behaviour???

great video... my feedback is to Canon on the R5... they should implement a function where the shutter is ALWAYS closed if no lens is attached. This is possible because the camera knows if a lens is attached or not. This minor improvement will greatly reduce the risk of dust getting to the sensor. Anyone know why the Canon Engineers did not think about this?

Once upon a time I read you should replace your blower every so often because it's possible for them to suck in dust. I'd guess how often would depend on your environment.

I've not read about that but mine is still OK.

Spot on, Stewart (no pun intended) 😂. You covered all the key points and advisories. Good point about IBIS. Interesting about closed shutter default on Canon mirrorless - I shoot Sony and have cleaned the sensors and you are correct - shutter default is open. Caution and care are prudent; what we touch, though, as I understand it, is a glass surface that sits atop the actual sensor. One other precaution is to absolutely avoid any “gel stick” type sensor cleaning product.

Thank you, I've never seen a gle stick sensor cleaning product. As for the shutter is closes when the camera is turned off.

I see you use the blower with the shutter down before you open it right? One question for that. Is the blower dangerous for the shutter blades? I mean, could the air push from it bend them or create synchronisation issues? Kind regards
