cleaning quartz crystals with muriatic acid,folks this is acid so do not get it on you or in you do not breath the fumes,do it in an open area away from pets,children,metal,cars,trucks your house,if you do screw it up keep some baking soda mixed with water to neutralize the acid and when you are done cleaning your crystals give them a rinse to get rid of the acid left on them,be safe and have fun

The muriatic I have is the green,( earth friendly) kind, but I was told that quartz can’t be etched by muriatic!! I will have to find some other rock,maybe with calcite lol

Yeah, but you should set an example. Some will think its ok to put their hands in acid. Some don't know better. The video other than that was good! Thank you

Hey, any ideas how to clean a quartz crystal that I can not soak? It is a centre piece of a fire place, stuck in the wall. It was put there in the 80's and now it has some iron on it i believe and I want to make it look new and fresh! Thanks!

i would suggest a mild solution of water and acid,put water and acid in a good container and get yourself a tooth brush and a whole bunch of sponges,dip tooth brush in to solution and hold a dry sponge under area that you are working to keep solution from running down your fireplace and screwing things up and slowly start cleaning your quartz and wiping it down with a sponge after you are done mix up some baking soda and water to clean any remaining acid off,be damn carefull wear gloves and make sure there is good ventilation

Hi, whats different with cleaning quartz with muriatic acid vs oxalic acid? I readed befor that can clean quartz with oxalic acid in many days?

i just use muriatic because it is easier to obtain,but it all comes down to how much iron is in or on the crystal,none really works faster than the other

My quartz turned yellow from the cleaning in Muriatic acid.

just keep re doing them in fresh acid
@markrockonlapidarysupplies8707
I think they may need to be soaked now in baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. Then perhaps in clean water (just water) after that.

baking soda is not going to take the yellow of the crystals,they need to be resoaked in fresh acid

I soaked them in clean acid.. Then I soaked them in clean water for about 4 days and and they looked fine but after about a week they turned yellow and remain that way.

Hi I am experimenting with cleaning at the moment as well. Soak in a water/baking soda to try neutralizing the acid. Soak in freshwater again and repeat as necessary. Here is a link that may help. Shoot, i can't get you the link. Try emailing again next Tuesday. I'll be back from my rock and gem show. The link is stored on my computer at my warehouse. Mark de Bruijn

I will, thank you again. I live in quite a small community and will do a bit of inquiring today. I particularly liked the part of your video where you reach in and grab the rocks and say,"don't do what I do" lol pretty much what 90% of us would do I think
