Buy the sharp maker diamond rods on Amazon and buy the 2 year warranty for 2.99... as soon as you wear they out and they start cutting slower send them to Amazon and they replace them no questions asked for 2 years. I buy all my Shapton glass, shapton pro, Naniwa chosera and Naniwa super diamond (resin bonded diamond stones) for that reason, as someone who sharpens 40 to 60 knives a week year round I go through bench stones fairly quickly. I pay 2.99 for the warranty and after I year return the stone and get a fresh one and right before my second year is up I return and get me a fresh one. That 2.99 warranty is worth its weight in gold. My DMT and Atoma diamond plates I do the same thing with.
