Quote from New Life newsletter: Going Up? Carry one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love]. Galatians 6:2 You are just as capable of lifting up someone else as that someone else is of bringing you down. You are just as capable of making a situation better as that situation is of making you worse. When you come across someone who is not as positive and upbeat as you are, there’s a much better alternative than letting yourself sink to their level. That alternative is to raise the other person up to your level. The two of you will have to find some common ground in order to interact. Make that common ground a positive, productive, enthusiastic and empowering one. Think of all the people who tend to drag you down. Now consider that if anyone has the power to drag you down, then you must also have the power to lift them up. Think of all the circumstances that bring you down. Decide to choose the high road and commit yourself to staying on that high road. Anytime something or someone must change, do your part to make it a change for the better. Father in heaven, we realize today that we all have a choice whether to lift others up or to let them bring us down. Help us Lord, to demonstrate Your great love and grace to all those that cross our paths today. Help us to take the high road and invite others “up” to join us. In Jesus name, AMEN! Using your fire to ignite someone else's, will not dim your light.

Quote from New Life newsletter: Keep Climbing So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]. Colossians 1:10 Everyone is always climbing the ladder of success and achievement. The problem is, most people are climbing down just as much, if not more, than they are climbing up. A ladder does not care whether you use it to climb up or down, yet it will only go so far in either direction. If you leave the ladder where it is, you can only climb so far up, and then you must turn around and climb back down. To keep climbing higher, you’re going to have to move the ladder. You’ll need to pull it up when you’ve climbed its length, and place its base at the level where its top used to be. That means venturing into new and unknown territory, taking some risks, and moving out of your comfort zone. It means learning new skills, setting more ambitious goals, and building upon your previous accomplishments. It takes a little more effort to pull the ladder up behind you after you’ve climbed it, to keep building upon what you’ve already done. Sure, it would be easier to climb back down and do the same thing again, but where would that get you? Once you’ve climbed up the ladder of success, set the ladder higher, and climb it again. With a little more effort, you can turn the ups and downs into ups and ups, and continue moving ever higher. Father in heaven, we don’t want to be people who simply “rest on our laurels” or settle for good enough. Help us to work continually, creating a habit of steady growth. Help us to keep growing in our work, as fathers, as mothers, as sons and daughters and friends. We want to grow, not just reach an arbitrary level of good enough. In Jesus name, AMEN! Only small thinkers believe there is a top to reach. Big thinkers never stop climbing.

Quote from New Life newsletter: How to React to Rudeness But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Luke 6:27 What you think of yourself is reflected in the way you treat others. A very effective way to raise your own level of confidence is by acting positively toward the people around you. Rudeness toward others, whether intentional or not, is a sure sign of a lack of confidence. When you have no respect or consideration for others, it’s difficult to have much confidence in yourself. Ironically, one of the worst things you can do for yourself is to think only of yourself. The more genuine respect, consideration and courtesy you express toward those around you, the more your own confidence will grow. If someone is rude to you, make every effort to be sincerely pleasant and courteous in return. Just because someone else is allowing rudeness to drain away their own energy, doesn’t mean you must do the same. Have the confidence to be courteous, and the confidence to act with genuine respect toward others. Your positive attitude and positive actions will empower you with even more confidence and energy. Father in heaven, we humbly ask for Your help to react with kindness when coming face to face with those who are rude. It’s hard to love our enemies, but that is exactly what You have called us to do. Help us to remain calm and show Your love to those who certainly are in need of it. In Jesus name, AMEN! Be compassionate to those are unkind; they are the ones who need it most.

Quote from New Life, newsletter: Quality > Quantity I, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to you to live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called [that is, to live a life that exhibits godly character, moral courage, personal integrity, and mature behavior-a life that expresses gratitude to God for your salvation]. Ephesians 4:1 Quantity is a poor substitute for quality. One small bit of excellence will outshine a whole room full of mediocrity. Doing one thing very well is a much more successful strategy than doing a lot of things poorly. Efforts which are focused and effective will achieve results, while efforts which are scattered and half-hearted are mainly wasted. Some see success as a numbers game, and believe that it comes from knocking on enough doors, talking to enough people, and making enough calls. While it’s true that you must knock on a lot of doors, you also must be able to deliver excellence when one of those doors is opened. Though achievement certainly demands a sufficient quantity of effort, there must also be quality and competence in that effort. The numbers matter, and yet so do such things as ideas, integrity, sincerity, knowledge and commitment. Short-cutting quality to increase quantity, whether in business, relationships or personal development, at best brings gains that are only temporary. Lasting achievement, whatever the endeavor, comes from a commitment to excellence every step of the way. Father in heaven, today we are learning the importance of doing everything with excellence. Whatever our hands find to do today, teach us to do it as unto you! We don’t want to do good enough, we want to hear well done! In Jesus name, AMEN! Quality is more important than quantity. One home run is much better than three singles.
