I've used these for years. Very good piece of kit. Highly recommend keeping a set of belts in stock. There are grease nipples underneath on what's called the dog bone, pain in the ass to get to but vital they are well greased. You can also get a bank angle indicator that sits in the hole above the headlight switch. You don't need to take much notice of it but great fun seeing what stupid degrees you can get it to, trust me you chicken out before the machine gives out.
I too am very impressed, the ability to cut 2" young trees amazes me. The idea of keeping a spare set of belts is vital. You could hear what sounded like belts slipping occasionally. Prior to my retirement I ran a Kubota F3690 for a private business that mowed public reserves here in New Zealand. It was about 60". Great machines.
It is a very impressive machine. I use a walk behind DR brush mower that will take down 2 to 3 inch saplings, but it is a beast to handle on slopes like he is using this machine. The riding all wheel drive of this machine makes it effortless, but after cutting 2 inch saplings and all the other brush, those blades won't be worth a darn for cutting a lawn.
@@johnphillips4342 I've a mower I use for both grass & mulching hedge trimmings. The latter gets the blade changed to an old one, saving the other just for clean grass.
We had a ventrac for about a year and a half from a sponsorship with ventrac, we absolutely loved it, great machine! Had a couple of attachments but the tuff cut was the best. Just a FYI when you go to sharpen the blades one of the motors has a reverse thread. I believe if you are sitting on the machine it was the far right. Have fun!
Matt, congrats on getting your Ventrac! I used to sell the younger brother to it when they did business under the Steiner name. Attachments to want... the bucket is sweet, they have a loader as well, but their finish mowers are incredible.... and they have a stump cutter as well. Now, you will ONLY want to use the hydraulic oil that Ventrac recommends. That system runs at pressures that would make you squirm.... Ventrac/Steiner used to void any warranties if any other type of hydraulic oil was used in their system. It all has to do with microscopic air bubbles... they will trash the pumps and motors.... huge money to fix. I hope you get many years of service out of it my friend... this video ought to be Ventrac's showcase promotion video! You killed it man!
I've wanted a Ventrac for years. Just could never justify the expense. They accommodate all sorts of attachments front and rear. This was a great video and would probably be a booster for Ventrac sales. Green with envy. 🤣👍
Wow , that new mower made a Park out of a mess. Glad there were no Large Rocks or Stumps hiding under that brush. Really enjoy your Videos. You do an excellent & Professional job and I marvel at the positions and excellent angles you use in your filming.
If you watch in in 1.25 speed, it takes less time to watch. Anything over 20 minutes, I watch in a faster speed. That way I get to watch more content by guys like Matt.
I've seen the Ventrac multiple times on Tractor Time With Tim, but I've never seen it run as hard as what Matt did. Before it was like "OK, Ventrac". Now I'm looking on Marketplace and the used machinery sites for one :)
There are RU-vid channels out there that are dedicated to mowing over grown lawns. and I mean like 3 - 4 - 5 feet + tall at times. Something about it is soothing and satisfying.
The reversing power of the Ventrac is very impressive. All that downward weight and momentum but the Ventrac backs up effortlessly. Great machine in the hands of a good operator.
There is a weight transfer lever. Make sure it is set to 5. It will take the weight of the cutting unit and transfer it to the wheels and help greatly with traction.
This little Ventrac is a Plant And Tree Eating Monster Bro Man that is impressive all the work it has done and Brush it has cleared Wow Matt 25:14 @Diesel Creek
Up until a few minutes ago, I had never even heard of a Ventrac... now, I need one! Diesel Creek is the one channel where I am excited to see longer videos, and it's one of those "Tom Sawyer" deals. Matt makes the work seem like fun, and the next thing you know, you want to be the one whitewashing that fence!
I've owned a Ventrac for over a year now and have the Tough cut mower. Just a piece of advice, on the larger trees I'd recommend lifting the deck up to get those and then cut it lower on the second pass. Those belt chirps can be eliminated that way. Just my $.02, Love your channel and keep up the fun content.
Great machine. The tire pressures have to be right on. If the outer tires have more pressure than the inners , you will snap axles. Also Steiner attachments will fit that machine with a belt change. Good luck with it and clean the radiator screen daily.
Looks like a good little machine. My luck going into areas overgrown like that, I'd find large rocks, strands of wire, and long forgotten pieces of scrap iron.
Happens to me all the time with my brush hog. Wire is a bit of a pain to get out but doesn’t damage anything. I hit an old tire once when mowing a field of blackberries. It killed the engine immediately and scared the crap out of me. Thought I’d destroyed something, but it fired right back up and I went back to work.
gotta love those little Kubota engines, keeping wheels turning and getting things done for eternities and the first time I've ever seen dualies on a lawn mower, really nice piece of machinery.
Matt you was having way too much fun on that thing. I kept waiting for you to break it because you put it to the test it's Matt proof. Thats one rugged machine.
Super cool machine! Gotta love that kubota diesel too! Pro tip… with those electric PTO clutches , it’s good practice to engage at a lower rpm, then throttle up. I am usually around 1/2 throttle when I engage. A lot less wear and tear on that clutch and belts.
There was a bad batch of hydraulic hoses on these 4500's underneath the seat where one of the hoses breaks lose from the fitting. You may want to keep an eye out for it.
Great "Little" Mower...After you did your first mow around your property you now know where there are little /medium trees that block you from mowing/moving forward. Take your chain saw and walk your mowing area and cut those blocking trees down so the next time you mow you will have a clearer shot to mow right through. A little effort now will definitely make your next mow much more comfortable. Also take your bucket/dozer and knock those small hills down to even out your next mowing.
Very satisfying. Matt, the best decision you ever made for this channel was hiring the SemiSuperVillains, their riffs and your hard work go hand-in-hand.
If when of no casters decides it wants to walk of the rim again there is an adhesive made for that kind of rubber to steel you can apply to avoid that happening. Cause the more times it happens the more times it'll happen.
Just got around to watching this video so glad I did, Ventrac was founded and still have their HQ in my hometown of Orville Ohio. I have a lot of family & friends that work at their plant. They’re a great family founded company that produces great products, hope you enjoy yours Matt!
Judging by the laughter as you worked, you were having FUN with that machine! It's always great when a well designed machine or tool makes the work easy and fun!
Matt, my week isn’t complete, my day isn’t complete unless I hear and see your Diesel Creek intro/video. You authentic persona (and Eva’s) is infectious. Keep posting brother!
I’ve had my 2018 4500Y for over 1-1/2 years and use it to maintain a 20 acre farm in middle Tennessee, 1/2 wooded and 1/2 pasture, and several 20-30 degree slopes and embankments. As others have mentioned, setting that weight transfer lever to 5, on the lower left side (orientation is from the drivers seat), is important for maintaining traction on the steeper slopes. I’ve got the slope indicator on mine and have occasionally pushed the tractor past 30 degrees with confidence (no concern for rollover). Avoid driving over low cut stumps on a rise/crest in the terrain. I’ve high centered my 4500 a couple times on the linkage that connects the two articulating halves. The first time I was able to wriggle the tractor off the stump under its own power, the second time I had to pull it off with another tractor. My 3 most used attachments are the tough cut (mowing pastures and underbrush in the woods), the slip scoop with grapple (I don’t have another tractor/loader or heavy equipment at my disposal), and contour mower (mowing lawn around the house). The stump grinder and trailer mover are probably the next most used attachments. I also have the Harley rake and trencher, which have also been useful from time to time. The 4500Y has been an indispensable, rugged, and reliable tool for my needs.
I've seen these things plenty of times, but mostly guys cut grass or flat fields with them. This however, impressed the heck out of me. The agility of that thing is awesome. It looks pretty dang stable too. Nice!
Tractor Time with Tim is an excellent RU-vid channel to learn about Ventrac attachments. Congratulations on buying such a versatile machine! I R jealous!
What an awesome machine. With all that was shredded into ball bearings and still making it up those steep inclines! Very impressed. Thanks for letting us hear the Ventrac doing it's thing, and doing it well.I want one.😀
I'll bet that is the best free video that ventrac could have ever dreamed of. How many machines do you figure this single video will sell. Great video Matt. Thank you as always air
When I saw the Ventrac in another video, I thought, good choice. The right tool for mowing slopes. I like the cutting deck in front of me. There is something satisfying in clearing land of undergrowth.
I'm a lil jealous, he's having soo much fun with his awesome toy, we girls wanna play too. By the way what state are you in. CT here, I like the action, keep giving us videos and stay safe. Thanks
These are very well engineered machines made In the USA .We had 2 4500s where I retired from . There are an almost endless number of attachments for every job . Most impressive is a buffalo turbine blower with a driver operable 360 degree adjustable chute . With a belt driven pto you want to keep a spare set of belts on hand but they are incredibly easy to change
WOW, That Blows my mind how well this machine works on the steep inclines... I watched the entire video just waiting to see it slide down the hill and not being able to back up them, BUT that never happened and it cut the under brush so well. What a Great machine you have there. Keep ALL the Great videos coming my friend I for one LOVE them ALL... Looking forward to see your new Shop also....... God bless & Godspeed
That looks like a wonderful machine. Just moved to West Virginia within the last 6 weeks. Massive property with tons of brush. I've been using a mini excavator to pull the big debris out. That machine would be ideal here.. This video pretty much helped me decide on what I need.. Thank you!
That Ventrac is one awesome machine and does an amazing job. This was by far your best buy to date, Matt and a true keeper for all that property you have, and keeping all that mowed during the spring and summer will be an added bonus! Loved the Video, and have missed ya..
Now that you mowed the steep hillside and can see them, take some time to throw the bigger pieces (4" and bigger diameter ) down the hill to the bottom. You will be surprised how much easier it will be to cut the next time , it won't crab like it did the first time. I saw that you had the weight transfer lever in the high position , but sometimes it helps to take the deck out of float and relieve the resistance of pushing the deck wheels through soft ground. After owning one for 6 years, I can say that Ventrac makes excellent mountain goats.
Ventracs and Steiners are built to withstand the abuse and workload that the children of a country farm family can throw their way. I have seen young boys work in places that were unbelievable. They build them strong and they last.
@working_country ___ Steiners are still being made. Some family members wanted to go in a different direction with the design and started Ventrac. Both are being built today. Thanks, JohnB
I’ve owned three Steiners over the last 20 years. I love mine. Our property (I’m about two hours from where they’re made in Ohio) is pretty hilly. You’ve already discovered how they tend to slide downhill when you’re mowing across a slope. Watch out for their tendency to lift a wheel if you try to make a sharp turn uphill. Maybe with your duals it’s not as bad. The snowblower attachment is a godsend for keeping our farm lane clear. Have fun with it. My latest one (Steiner 430 Max) is 20 years old and I imagine it will last me the rest of my life.
Snow plow is a must have for these. Just be careful on the hills. Mowing at our school they get mad at us for not going straight up and down the hills. I have actually had the front tires come off the ground mowing with a Steiner
I highly doubt that I will ever have need of a piece of equipment like this (or anything else you run, for that matter. LOL), but this was just ridiculously satisfying. 😁 Thanks for sharing!
These machines are awesome and stable. To make it more stable, fluid fill the tires. You will trade some flotation for traction but it is a sure way to keep it planted on steep hills
Awesome video! We love to see Ventracs old or new being put to the test! To answer your question at the end, the boom mower an amazing attachment for hard to reach places and trimming back tree lines as well. Might be worth checking into it at your local dealer.
Matt, looks like if you spent a couple of hours moving some logs, branches and trees out of the way, you could mow for hours! Great video and a great machine.
Ventrac mowers for steep hills and rugged terrain are the best! Take good care of that machine; it will provide you many years of good service. Best wishes.
Hey Matt, when youre a hammer everythings a nail! So enjoy the Beast. And for your Canadian audience rolling off the rim isnt always a bad thing, especially at Tim Hortons...
Hey Matt, thats a nice toy you got there! Nice job on getting that tire back on. While you were doing that, it was quite obvious to see how waterlogged the ground is there now, some liquefaction going on when you were pushing down on that rim. Right, if you'll excuse me now, i have to go find me a Ventrac 😆
@@jacquejecker4435 I thought someone else was flying until I saw the controller in his other hand I'm thinking...he's driving up a hill with one hand on the wheel. Mad Max Mower Mayhem coming soon. XD
Awesome purchase Matt, there are so many different attachments you can use on the 4500. This will be a great addition to your site. It's great to see the ventrac making your farm look fabulous. Great video, thank you for sharing
That brushcutter is nothing short of awesome. Best bang for your buck. Looks like a fun thing to do after a stressful day. Love it. Enjoy watching it do miracles? Thanks for the enjoyment of watching what it can do. Maybe see more later?
You have to adjust the weight control thing for the deck. It will make it go just about anywhere. Get your self a couple extra front pto belts they burn up quickly. Amazing machine I love them.
Hi Matt, That thing is a little beast! Keeping the jungle cut back will definitely help with drying things out! It also looks great! I would hit rocks every 5 feet in Massachusetts. I should have stayed where I was born...in Pennsylvania!! But mom and dad wouldn’t listen to a three year old. Great purchase!
Those are awesome little machines. I have seen several channels here on RU-vid using them, and they all have nothing but good things to say about them. One advantage I noticed that Ventrac has is the mower is out front, and it helps stabilize the machine if you are going up a steep hill. Anyway, was surprised as well you got a machine in such good working order for once, lol.
Those Ventracs have so many available attachments that they can do nearly everything any tractor can do. Brush mowers, rough mowers, finish mowers, snow removal equipment, radial brushes, tillers, blowers, specialty attachments for sand grooming, playing field grooming, you name it, Ventac has it. They even have full enclosures with heat, defrost, wipers, etc.
I bet the caster wheels are a disposable type so rims are spotwelded together on each side of the rubber. Best way to not risk damage of rims probably to drill the spotwelds and use nuts and screws. Love the dually wheels and Im impressed of the performance of that Ventrac.
This is one HELLUVA very well engineered machine! Looks like a lot of fun to operate as well. It appears that the articulation feature is what saves it in the sketchy situations. Seems to deal with terrain that would normally require tracks. Like always, thanks for the awesome upload!
Well heck Matt this video's been staring me in the face all day and finally realized it was a Diesel Creek video just now. Guessing it's because not only is it a little early but it's not a will it start rescue project. Nice rig.
