The simplest topic to cover yet it took Chris to recognize the need and to put this out. To any haters of Chris that think this is an unnecessary video and a waste of viewing time obviously don’t know much about their bike’s requirements. Spray any ammonia based cleaner on your windscreen and prepare to buy a new windshield. Smart advice from you Chris and these videos are the ones I like seeing from you much more than several other types. And while I have your attention Chris, what happened to the love of putting out more of the videos we paid for (maintenance line)?

Important topic, Chris. For those that live in a hot, dry climate or have allowed dried-on bugs to accumulate, I've found it very helpful to place a clean very wet towel over the windshield for a few hours (or overnight) then use your method to easily remove them.

Chris, I have the same windscreen on my 2020 Goldwing, that I took off of my 2018 Goldwing. First bike had 40,000 miles on it, and the newer bike has 21,000 miles on it. The F4 windscreen has had nothing but water and very soft terrycloth used on it, and it is always crystal clear. Great video and advice!

Once the windscreen is clean, once a week I put a coat of Mothers Pure Carnauba wax on the windscreen (both sides) and gauge cluster/dash of my Goldwing. They all still look brand new and make normal cleaning super easy.

While not endorsing specific products I think you omitted some plastic treatments which will make cleanup easier, and help shed rain water while riding. Rain-X for plastic is good as well as my new favorite called BugSlide. A few applications of Bugslide makes it easier to clean the plastic as well as putting a high shine finish on the entire bike. 👍

Shortly after purchasing my 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT, I had 3M Paint Protection Film (PPF) applied to "vulnerable" areas of my Goldwing in ADDITION to applying 3M PPP to the face of the gauge cluster instrument screen for extra protection from possible scratching.

Great video. I have found that placing an old wet clean tshirt over the windshield for a few min to re hydrate the bugs before wiping off the bugs. I have been using the water method for years..

Great video, what was not addressed was BUGS and their squashed residue. With the amount of bugs I hit on a days ride I have to use a clean towel soaked in water first which I drape over the windshield and let sit for several minutes. This softens the buggy accumulation so that I can continue to clean it. Is this a method that you use or can you suggest something better?

I do the same or spray the gut spot with Plexus or the Honda equivalent.

Greetings from the PPRC, I have a F6B with a clear view shields WS they recommend Novus # 1 plastic cleaner / polish and it seems to work well. Use after it has been cleaned with water.

100% agree. Same process for CHROME on a bike (real or plastic)....the oils in most "cleaners" is the reason your chrome looks bad. PLASTIC/LEXAN: Flushing with water after a ride and doing 2-3 cleanings....soak and wipe of chunks, soak and wipe 'clean" (Optional) third clean clean....if you're not "washing" the entire bike. I follow a substantially similar process.

Cleaning these parts is very important. My 2018 also has an F-4 and I was happy to learn that it's more forgiving than most. I have used "NOVUS " products for many years and have always had good results .

I follow the same process after each ride. Dried on bug are very hard to get off. They come off every easy when the are not dried on. Otherwise, i would have to get regressive to remove them. I also wipe them of with just water on the front surfaces of the bike.

Anyone used the clear plastic film made for GW similar to the protective films for cell phones?
@markinstlouis

Bought my F4 at last year's Wing Ding. I bought their cleaner and use that with paper towels, as they told me not to use a microfiber towel on it. That being said, I'll have to pick up some of the ones you're using to try out. A question on the towels you use. Currently I wash my bike using the yellow microfiber towels I get at Walmart (the big pack), but I throw them away after each use. With the ones you use, do you just wash them? If so, any specific way you go about doing it?

Same would apply to the 01-17 also, no ammonia-based cleaners nor paper towels. I used Plexus on my 2007 GW and still now on my 2018.

OP meant Rain-X. And to @Danny White no I would not recommend their original formula “glass” version because it contains acetone. They have a use-on plastics type but I personally have not used it nor would I recommend it. Let someone else be a guinea pig on their windscreen first :)
