Hello friends! As teased on the community tab: here is a cosy sit and spin video where I answer your question. A super informal Q&A! You send me all your spinning, knitting and otherwise fiber arts related (or completely unrelated) question and I'll try and answer them while I clear out my bobbins for a new spinning project.
So, we'll talk about my favorite projects, dream fleeces, the weirdest thing I'd knit, knit lingerie and some of my other hobbies and many more interesting topics. Like cake.
Oh, if you want to make Knubbelkesvlaai for yourself, here's Nigella's recipe: www.nigella.com/cookbook-corn...
And for those that want to check out the other RU-vidrs I mention in this video:

I have the same with processing my own yarn instead of bying acrylic yarns, that is why I started spinning . Also it is an old craft (oude ambacht) same as bobbin lace (kantklossen) 🙂. I am spinning since Feb this year and I really love it. Also prepping yarn from beginning to end. enjoy your day 🙂🐑🧶

Thank you for sharing so much about yourself! My chaotic self is immensely enjoying bingeing through your videos and several things you shared really resonate with me. One of those things is how people seem to automatically associate doing stuff yourself with conservative and some times downright insular, isolationist world views and values. My passport and my country of birth don’t match. Just after hitting my mid-teens I’d already lived on three continents and was fluent in four languages. Seeing how other people (have to) live and what messing about with our resources do to not only living conditions elsewhere but affects us all long term, kind of broadens one’s world view and convictions. Having been ‘the odd one out’, the ’stranger’, the one with the ’weird’ culture for a significant part of my formative years did too. Having had to some times do without something considered ‘basic’ in the Western world, like having to ration water use for months on end, kind of adds a whole new perspective. At the beginning of the pandemic everyone was panicking because toilet paper was sold out everywhere. People were wondering why I wasn’t in a tizzy about it. Well, I’d had to do without before. No big deal. I’m not a conservative. At all. I’m not a screaming-off-the-ramparts communist/socialist either. I call myself a common sense human who happens to be mindful of the planet she lives on, the people around her and generally the living creatures she knows exist around her, both near and far, visible and invisible. It’s not because I happen to enjoy smoking my own bacon, fermenting my own wines and meads, painting, and spinning my own yarn that I have conservative views. And if I did, why hate on someone for having different opinions simply because at the end of the day, that person probably wants what we all want: food to eat, a roof over their head, a job that pays enough to pay the bills, and the feeling of living in a space that is safe? Why limit myself to only like-minded people if talking to others tickles my brain, challenges me (and them) and can bring us to solutions that neither would otherwise think of? It seems we lean very much towards similar views. Whilst that makes me go “Yay!” I wouldn’t unsubscribe to your channel if you did lean conservative. I only would if you started to try and force me over to ‘your’ side or started hating on ‘the other’ side. That being said, I do at times immensely enjoy bamboozling those who assume. Call me petty. Call me childish. I’m perfectly imperfect and happy to be so. 😊

I so get the "I just knew" on the fiber arts. I'll loved them since I was little. One of my earliest memories is sitting in my living room with two straws pretending to knitt. Another time I was in church and was mesmerized by a lady crocheting, I watched her for a solid half hour. Only I didn't even know what crocheting was then. I thought it was knitting. I begged my grandma to teach me, and I knitted many a horrible scarf, that I stuck on a pencil because I didn't know how to finish them. 🙃 I remember planning out how to knitt gloves during recess in school. And, like you, I went to a museum where they had a loom. Except they were actually USING the loom to weave to show visitors. They were warping it up. I wanted to weave on it SO BAD. I was so sad when my parents forced me to move on. So yeah, sometimes our little souls just KNOW. I was practically born wanting to create. (I must also thank you for introducing me to Kristine Vike. I agree with you, she is so underated.)

I just wanted to say, I haven't been spinning very actively the last few weeks and this video made me realise how much I miss it, and how much I love wool! I really prefer working with combed wool, and I don't have combs yet to comb the raw wool I have, so I've been just sort of avoiding spinning all together because combs are so dang expensive... So note to self: stop avoiding and find second hand combs or make them or do something, and also go wash more wool to spin!
@MijnWolden
@MijnWolden Год назад
My Combs are 3D printed, they're not as fancy as the Valkyrie ones, but they do the job and cost like a quarter of the prize. I got mine from Instrumentum Textilae on Etsy, they're located in Germany I believe. If that's more in your budget, it might be worth it to check out
@raevynwoods9403
@raevynwoods9403 Год назад
@@MijnWolden I actually came across a pair of second hand ones that are 3d printed, but I originally didn't buy them because I wanted wooden ones that would look at least passable in historical reenactment-situations. But I'm going to see if they're still available because not-ideal combs is still better than no combs at all! If I ever save up enough for wooden ones, or make them myself, I can always sell the plastic ones on to another poor spinner out there :)
@jansrusticlife

Makes me kinda jealous some of the patterns are so cute.
