As mentioned in the video, deeper explanation videos coming when legally available. Please be patient as these are topics that I’d like to do my due diligence to ensure I am speaking about these topics accurately.
This goes without saying but please don't sent hate to anyone, any company, etc. involved.

How is it diff between drunk elephant and naturium...both using this platform to promote them...end of the day suzi or elephant do not care about what happens...as long as products are sold. Suzi did by coming as nobody...talking about diff brands and mixed with her own...then said ohh this is my brand too...I forgot to mention. When people came after her...she continued to mention other products she uses so people think ohh she loves other brands too. Smart marketing. And drunk came after people directly as u saying. So how are they diff?

@@WhoaItsMoeMoe I think it was explained pretty well in the video. Drunk elephant was attacking/blaming people for skin conditions they couldn’t control which is really different in my mind. Neither were good but since they’re two different issues in my opinion they should be judged differently accordingly

They have to make everyone happy. And that is the problem. Plenty of people just find ways and means to complain. For the Sephora comments, just because a company claims to be vegan,clean, etc etc, I do not stop mistrusting. All companies want to profit. And plenty of companies lie in order to get us to believe things. People automatically assume that big business is the only one that does this, all brands can, and do if given the chance. It’s in many ways a way to promote themselves and set themselves apart from a billion item industry. And the products may actually work so it may be a white lie.

When you criticize and discriminate on brands and ingridients you open yourself to an argument. For example, she told the whole world that shea butter and red algae is ok for acne prone skin...and I was like no no ...those ingredients are a no go for anyone with acne. We're working towards an ultra sensitive formula, more like Hyram...Hyram is boss when it comes to ingredients....

Doesn’t matter if one brand has good ethics/background. Fake review is fake review. Doesn’t nullify criticism just because it’s a good brand. That’s borderline censorship.

I think that if they're low key "pressured" to conform to Sephora's fake review practices to set foot in the industry, it is more understandable. Yet I agree with you, doesn't matter if you're all female led or something, fake reviews are fake reviews! Even if the brand itself didn't have anything to do with the reviews and it all was Sephoras fault... calling out fake reviews is helpful for others.

@@alexandrathearmy8464 then there are plenty of other RU-vidrs that provide recommendations on non-cruelty free and affordable options. I don't love Cassandra's vibe necessarily and don't agree with all her opinions, but I only subscribed to have vegan and cruelty-free product recommendations as that's important to me and none of the other skincare RU-vidrs focus on that. I'll watch dermatologists on research about an ingredient and then look up Cassandra's recommendations on products that are vegan and cruelty-free. Why are you against people who care having access to this info, when there are plenty of resources for what you're looking for? There are some drugstore cruelty-free brands like elf cosmetics, Pacifica, alba botanica, yes to carrots, acure, Vanicream (although this one is in a gray area). Personally, I really enjoy elf cosmetics for most of my routine with a few more expensive products sprinkled in.

Cass, I dealt with really severe acne when I was 17, it was severe to the point I didnt like to shave cause some of my pimples would bleed. At the time I didnt had the amount of knowledge I have today and I just wanted all my pimples to disappear. When I look to old photos I feel grateful that I had the courage to see a dermatologist cause I knew that my problems would only be solved by using tretinoin (and I was pretty scared). I have to admit that when I see those photos I usually think “how in hell did I go out with my skin looking like that” and I feel ashamed (I know I shouldnt be but it is what it is). My profile pic is from december 2019 (8 months after I started my tretinoin treatment) and my skin already looked *WAY* better. You taught me about ingredients and how to deal with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and my skin is improving so so SO much. On Naturium, as someone who works for an international company that deals with fortune 500 companies, I can speak to the complex nature of deals. NDAs are serious, one minute everyone is on board and ready to sign contracts, then the next second someone pulls out and wants XYZ added to the contract. Things get really messy and complicated on what can or cannot be shared, then magically one day all the stars align, and boom the deal is complete and someone is now a part of the deal. To the public, it looks like this all happened in a matter of seconds, or that shady stuff was going on, but the back end is soooooooo complicated and CANNOT be shared with the public in case it all falls apart at the last second.

A brand being female founded does not preclude it from honest business practices. I'm not more comfortable with being manipulated by a fellow woman than by a man. "Women support women!" Does not include not holding women to the same standards we hold men. That is not a defense or a reason not to "attack" (Being honest is attacking?) a brand. The fact that this is Sephora fault is worth knowing but it's honestly super offensive to me that "but the owner/founder is a woman" is being used a defense. I’m with you about the cruelty free thing. People get triggered by it and that’s interesting to me. Cruelty to animals because of the horrendous and unnecessary testing of products is an issue worth having strong feelings about 🐒 If someone really can’t choose cruelty free alternatives then it is what it is and there’s no need for those individuals to feel bad. However, there’s nothing wrong with people that are upset about the issue asking for cruelty free recommendations.

I feel like this is worse though because in addition to those donations that you're saying that has been made from Krave Beauty, they also have LGBT supporting ads and claim to be a diverse brand. That feels extremely deceptive and like clean beauty washing, using lgbt people for sales when they don't disclose the donations.

Having suffered with anorexia and chronically low self esteem, I understand you can sometimes upset others by judging your own body image, particularly individuals who are already vulnerable to low self esteem, and I'm very mindful of. However, I cannot stress enough how people with their own body insecurities never mean to project their insecurities on others. I never judge others on their appearance. Everyone is beautiful. Cruelty-free, for me, will always be a MUST when shopping and I don't even think you should be sorry for a humane thing like this. Animals don't willingly let you test on them unlike people do. Testing on animals for skincare, makeup, cleaning products etc shouldn't even exist now days and I have a highly RESPECT for those brands who don't test on them🙏🏻 At the end of the day it's your choice who do you want to support, like every other thing, but don't make someone be sorry for their beliefs. If you can't afford cruelty-free skincare (although there are many cheap brands like TO, The Inkey List, Krave Beauty and sooo many) continue on buying your things and don't make a problem out of nowhere, especially if it involves animals rights. Thank you Cassandra for being as transparent as you possibly can. Most people don't deal with legal confidentiality agreements, as someone who does, it can be so frustrating to not be able to tell the whole truth as you know it. People are way too quick to judge these days and even if you are an expert in a certain study or have more knowledge than the average person in a certain topic, you are dismissed or vilified. As for the Liah Yoo situation, a person's religion and belief are extremely personal and if a person does not support what that particular person's belief are, don't buy their product, don't financially support them. It’s so sad that we can’t know everything about the original naturium launch.: 1. It seems that Susan violated FTC rules about sponsoring, having an interest and not disclosing it in her videos (and later editing the descriptions on her videos as soon as she found out kinda sus), and bashing the ordinary on her way. 2. Her staff silenced people in her facebook group when they were calling her out about those possible violations. 3. She posted an apology video and monetized it... that’s not very honest IMO, apologize and get a buck out of it? 4. It’s not possible to find her apology video on the mixed makeup channel... why? So new subscribers won’t find out about it? 5. On her Facebook Group she didn’t wanted to address the BLM movement, bc her group wasn’t for political talk. About that she changed and now is addressing Asian hate and other issues. The way Susan launched Naturium wasn’t the best way but at the same time I understand. I think most people believe she did it for money, malintent etc. but I really do believe she wanted genuine feedback on what people thought and experienced. If she had told everyone from the get go Naturium was her brand and was launching, obviously people would say they love it and it’s the best just because it’s her and that makes sense. Do I think it was the right move to launch the way she did? No. Because if you’re confident about your brand, it’s ingredients/formulations and philosophy then there’s nothing to worry about and people would enjoy it and know it’s good and it works. At the end of the day, we’re all human; we all make mistakes. I’m all about second chances, I myself have really been enjoying Naturium! I feel you so strongly when you were talking about Drunk Elephant, Cassandra! I remember once when I went to my dermatologist, she actually told me, in my face, that if my acne was bothering me at the end of the day it had to do with a vanity issue and right after that she put me on accutane for 6 months. Acne, melasma, etc all these skin conditions that so many people just consider vanity and some try to rip off and gain money telling us that their product is a miracle. AND Just do you, Cassandra. There is going to be criticism eveywhere.Be true to yourself and carry on.

I was so disappointed in Susan Yara, as I was a fan of hers and was very interested in Naturium. I even remember when she posted about Naturium on her FB group, saying it was better than The Ordinary and that she has gotten it in PR. And she absolutely knew better. There’s so much more, too-I was in her FB group and saw so many shady posts and comments. If there was anything that could have cleared her name, they would have been shouting it from the rooftops. As for Liah, that was such a heartbreaker. I loved Krave’s MHHC so much, but I will never purchase from them again. From what I have read, Liah was in a leadership position in that church and donated a lot of money to them. Some of that money goes to anti-LGBTQ issues, so by buying Krave, I would indirectly be supporting anti-LGBTQ. I am not a member of that community myself, but I do not support discrimination.

I agree with those to tell you not to change a thing.I only discovered you, Cassandra. a couple of weeks ago and I’m totally obsessed. Some of the things that I absolutely respect and love about you is that you are honest and transparent and put yourself out there in such a vulnerable way. Don’t change anything you don’t want to. It is not your responsibility how other people take your remarks. You will never going to be 100% understood. People bring their own biases and life experiences into things and see things differently. You can’t help that. All you can do is be authentically you. And I believe you are. And I will continue to watch your channel and support all that you do.

Liberals have not standards, Dr. Dray prioritizes protection against skin cancer rather than “cruelty free”, she’s not ignorant like Cassandra, chemotherapy is worse for the environment, animals and the person going trough it, than not using “cruelty free” products, also they’re so “tolerant” that immediately someone as wholesome as Liah Yoo who may or may not support the alphabet people (I’m gay so spare me the bs) is reduced to a simpleton homophobe, hypocrisy at its highest.

"You can't criticise a brand because they're forward-thinking" Actually, you have every right to criticise a brand no matter their ethics and morals or what strives they are taking. NOT criticising simply because they are 'forward-thinking' is treating that brand differently from all others. If you want to be fair then all must receive the same treatment, that isn't something you should apologise for. You also shouldn't apologise for what you say about your experience with anything in life, if you thought YOUR acne experience was horrific or horrible that's fine, you aren't explicitly saying that anyone with acne is horrible or disgusting. If people take that the wrong way or to heart then that's their issue, you aren't responsible for that even if you are considered an 'influencer' which is something more people need to understand. You shouldn't have to bite your tongue on your experiences or live your life on eggshells all because of others and their feelings.
@Peanut_taco_muffin
@Peanut_taco_muffin 3 года назад
Huh? Why do we have to treat brands all equally fairly? They’re not our kids. If a brand is lead by homophobic, racist, sexist (etc.) people, then we should absolutely judge them more harshly than a brand with an inclusive team. This isn’t a black or white issue.
@SH-vo5je
@SH-vo5je 3 года назад
@@Peanut_taco_muffin That's exactly the point, all brands should be criticised if they deserve to be criticised and even if a brand is deemed 'forward thinking' that does not excuse them from receiving criticism which the whole point of the start of my original comment lol

I think that the mindset that you cannot criticize a forward-thinking brand is a bit dangerous. Imagine a makeup company that is woman-owned, has diverse hiring practices, and give a lot in charity back to the community. If it was uncovered that that company was sourcing its mica from child slave labor, then I think someone would have a moral imperative to call that out, because all the good the company does is entirely separate from this one morally abhorrent act. While obviously what the company you are talking about did something much less awful than my example, what they did was still shady as heck (though as you mentioned it did sound like they might have been pushed into it by sephora). Calling out the bad a company does is not an indictment on the good that they do, it is a call to action for them to lessen the negative that they do.

I agree. Like with the Vogue and Gwyneth situation, people criticized Gwyneth a lot but a good number of people criticized Vogue for ultimately passing that video. Similarly, we should criticize Sephora for their shady doings but any brands associated with this regardless of it being vegan cruelty free women owned or not should be criticized as well. Being a vegan animal loving women is not a pass card.
