I had both cleft lip and palate. I'm 28 year old right now. As every cleft lip kid my school journey plus college journey filled with lot of staring at me with full awkward and shocked faces, and many who laughing at me. When the guest come home I used hide myself from them just bcz I can't talk. In the public buses noone helped me when I struggled to convey my destination point with bus conductor..I get really scared when it's my turn to answers the questions in classes bcz they make fun of me and they don't understand me. I hardly made friends because of this. And when I was at the age of 21 I undergone multiple surgeries which made me gain confidence in me. Today I look beautiful and I can speak good compare to before. But all these made me an introvert girl😭

In this video ive learned that: Complications of CLP include: - Difficulty feeding. One of the most immediate concerns after birth is feeding - Ear infections and hearing loss. Babies with cleft palate are especially at risk of developing middle ear fluid and hearing loss. - Dental problems - Speech difficulties
Why is the surgery for cleft palate performed later? And what if a child has both cleft lip and cleft palate? Will the lip surgery be delayed to fix everything in one operation? Thanks for the video, it was a helpful reminder
Hi. I am a 12 year old girl with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. I've had about 6-10 surgeries ( not sure how many) but as far as I know they are different surgeries. My most recent surgery was my 2nd bone graft and is my last surgery in total. 22 months after my surgery I will get braces
Surgery for the cleft palate is performed later to allow for the expansion of the roof of the mouth and jaw. Depending of the severity of the cleft, if closed too early the palate may reopen due to growth. Also right after surgery bottle feeding may damage the repair, so a child should be eating solids and drinking from a cup before surgery to aid in the healing process.
@bxrchteaxx I was meant to get surgeries right now but my country went into lockdown, the bone grafts are defo the worst part but it’s easy to get over it.

I'm from the U.S. Age 55 to 56. Noticed my upper lip started splitting. Was showing 8 months or so. I started washing my face with soap and fresh water during showering. Shower least once every 2 days. Always the lip. Lip cleared up no problems after about a week and a half.
I have a cleft lip and got made fun of on Xbox for it and I was crying and they were calling me a pussy and said I had a lisp and I told them I had a cleft lip and they started laughing I have a cleft lip and palete
It's terrible lol. The muscle that connects from the back of the nose to the inner ear controls the opening of the middle ear. "Gunk" or bacteria will form there and not allow the person to "open" their ear. I currently have it.
@_Angel_ i have it too but im different than most cleft patients because my nose is flat and im missing a bone and my lip looks normal than most patients but from the side profile looks pretty much the same as other cleft patient's im 15 right now and im hoping to get a surgery when im 16
It can be, but I was born from two parents who have no history of it. I have bilateral cleft lip AND palate and yet, no sign in my parents bloodline :) However it can be genetic
