I bought one of these. 48 degrees. I love it !!! Its the best wedge I have ever owned. I had been using the 32 degree chippers. This blows them away. I have used it now for about 6 rounds and I am getting better and better with it. These are awesome ! I play with hybrids but I really love this wedge. I am considering getting another. Spider Dubiel

New to the game the first iron I purchased was a CBX 56 degree wedge... A friend of mine advised me to learn it before anything. After everything said and done it ended up with a set of Taylormade clubs, but I kept that CBX in my bag. Its totally my favorite club!

Bought the CBX 50, 54, & 58 wedges yesterday and hit them today on the range for an hour after trying some demos. My previous wedges were a mix of Vokeys (SM 6 and previous). Found these easier to hit, added about 5-10 yards, launched them higher, and the few mishits didn’t lose much yardage. I think I’m going to like them very much while playing, but there will be a little adjustment period getting used to the extra distance!

Really interested in these! My current 60 is a el cheapo Dunlop Tour which has a cavity back (quite a big one too) and it's so much easier than my other wedges. Yes it was dirt cheap from a chain sports store, but for less than a tenner it was worth testing. These look like a decent version of the same thing!

I got some cleveland gc16 in 56 and 60 which are a cavity back wedge and they are amazing. I also have a vokey in 50 which I brought first as this was the in thing. I just find the cavity back wedges cg16s much more forgiving and they feel great. D's brought much more to my short game around the green. Should I go back to bladed wedges because it's fashionable? 🤔 Can't knock it till you try it!

Big sole wedges are the way forward. been playing the titleist k grind 60 sm5 since it came out. so good it feels like cheating. I thought it may become my winter wedge for soft turf but since found out it works extremely well even on tight dry links turf. you just let it ride along the turf into the ball. bounce and big sole is your best friend if you know how to utilise it.

CBX wedge is an interesting club but despite the sound idea behind it, suitability may depend on what is the main use for you: full shots or touch shots around the green. For me it is too light headed for my taste around the greens. I play Srixon Z565 irons @ D2 swingweight and a rule of thumb is 4 to 6 swingweights heavier for wedges so D6 to D8. I have a 56 degree RTX-3 wedge @D5 that is only just heavy enough, a 58 degree specialty wedge at D8 swingweight and a 50 degree CBX wedge @ D3 swingweight which just feels too light chipping and short pitches - I need to feel the head more. Feels good though on full shots. My solution: a little lead tape to bring it up to D4 worked well enough - still gave me a good feel for full shots with the cavity back benefit of forgiveness and face speed but a little better head feel around the greens. It is a compromise for me that still favours full shot usage which is the key reason I have the club. BTW, be aware that the ball comes off the face hotter than a blade wedge when chipping and again, that is not to my taste. In conclusion, with the modification, I am happy with the club for my main use - full shots (so stays in my bag) but rarely use it for touch shots. I guess its almost impossible to have the best of both worlds.

You nailed it at 7:30 for me. I use to play JPX EZ Irons with Mizuno S5 wedges. I carried a GW in the EZ and then went to 52, 56, 60. What I found during my gapping test is that my Gap Wedge in the EZ (stronger lofts and less spin) would carry around 120 yards and would roll out 2 to 3 yards. The S5 52 will carry around 105 yards but will back up 2 to 3 yards. So Gap Wedge is 123 yards and my 52 is now 102. That is a massive gap in my wedges. I since have went to Mizuno MP 57 irons and am able to get more spin on my iron shots and my gappings are so much better. I know carry 5-PW in the MP 57's and then go 54° and 58° in my Mizuno S5. Lofts and spin rates are much more intact throughout my iron/wedge makeup. Great point you made there.
@thelegendthatismatt
@thelegendthatismatt 6 лет назад
Coy Burton How much difference do you feel it made switching to the MP 57 irons over the jpx EZs when attacking the green? I game JPX ezs and am often frustrated when the dont spin up and a good shot just seems to run out a long way
@cburton12387
@cburton12387 6 лет назад
thelegendthatismatt It is literally night and day different. I know my yardage snd I attack. With EZ I was having to really factor in roll out, first bounce etc.
@thelegendthatismatt
@thelegendthatismatt 6 лет назад
Coy Burton Yeah factoring in that is exactly what i have to do, they are especially bad on elevated greens where if i land front edge they often run off the back. Do you find the MP 57s much less forgiving? The jpx ezs are very forgiving but dont think i need the same level of forgivenesses that i needed when i first got them
@cburton12387
@cburton12387 6 лет назад
thelegendthatismatt I actually hit the 57 much better with far greater accuracy. Forgiveness, as far as right to left, I saw no difference due to that is what I put into the swing strike wise... Loss of distsnce on a mishit you can for sure tell a difference, as I lose more distsnce with these on mishits but I prefer that. My miss is always a toe strike, with the MP 57 I know I can expect at most 10 yards loss on a toe strike. If I have 150 to the pin, my 8 iron is 155 club. I will hit that 8 iron all day, if I flush it it will land 155, if I mishit it out of the toe, it will go 145 and roll out due to poor contact. With my EZ I was hitting a 9 iron as my 155 yard club and getting with no stopping power. My bad shots flew farther on a poor line and really didn't help me much to improve.

Not to ruin anything, they seem like great wedges. Just a thing when it comes to bladed clubs. When the loft is greater than ~ 40' it doesn't really matter if it's a blade or a cavity back in terms of forgiveness. Just physics.

@deanverstegen5061
@deanverstegen5061 6 лет назад
Slim Biggins Hitting a blade wedge isn't necessarily analogous to hitting a bladed 5 iron. I use CB irons and blade wedges simply because I don't need the lower CG an higher forgiveness in high loft, short clubs. I do in the long and mid irons where playing blades would be detrimental to scoring.
@slimbiggins1364
@slimbiggins1364 6 лет назад
Dean Verstegen Dean Verstegen the only difference between blade wedges and irons is the loft. Blades are more consistent than cavity backs. You originally stated, you hit your blade wedges better than your irons. I was implying that you would hit blade irons better than your cavity backs. Maybe you should try some.

Ahhh the old magic clubs have finally come to the wedge game. In 2000 I could only hit the ball 100 yards, I've changed nothing in my swing and done no practice. I didn however but purchase a new driver each spring and each Autumn. Now I stand on the tee on and announce like a famous yank "Watch this drive" and smash it 400 yards. Problem is I still can't chip so hopefully in another 15 years I'll be driving it 800 yards and pitching in for my second. And all that without any practice and the parting of a mere fourteen thousand pounds. Genius!

50%+ of my shots with my SW and esp my lob wedge aren't full shots though... Why do I need a CB? For my GW yes sure, a lot of full shots, but most of my pitches are less than full. For the ones that are.. I can generally strike them better due to a shorter shaft. Seems just more like a marketing ploy to get higher cappers to buy this wedge. All this coming from a guy who plays RTX 3's already...
@yadthink
@yadthink 6 лет назад
Zachary Milos, if a CB wedge feels the same and spins the same as a bladed wedge, why not take advantage of the extra forgiveness of the CB?
@zacharymilos392
@zacharymilos392 6 лет назад
Because I don't really think it's needed for a 50% swing. For a 100% swing, sure it may make a difference, but I don't swing my SW 100% very often and I almost rarely swing a LW 100%. A lot of tour players are playing slight CB irons, but I don't see any on tour. Tells me that it's somewhat pointless. But, I'm glad Cleveland is trying to innovate a bit. I just don't think it's going to be massively useful on anything but a full swing.
@yadthink
@yadthink 6 лет назад
I hear ya, but it's similar to how I used to think MOI wasn't important in putters (because the stroke is so short and soft) and now I appreciate that MOI *is* important in putters. I use Ping wedges that are slight CBs.
@zacharymilos392
@zacharymilos392 6 лет назад
MOI in a putter can be harmful if your stroke does not dictate it. Like MC says, you need thousands of data points before you can tell if a club like this is helping you, as the main point of MOI increases is stability in the face and thus maintaining ball speeds. When ball speed is already pretty low on say a 50 yard pitch... how much is MOI really helping?
