If I could like this video 100 times I would! I play the regular HB launchers from 2018 on Marks recommendation. It’s so funny to me that we as golfers have adopted “help” in our putters i.e. mallet heads, high MOI as well as in our Drivers i.e. moveable weights and bigger heads. However most golfer refuse to do this in their irons. I got sick and tired of duffing my 5 iron and switched. I’m never going back.

selkowbc could not agree with you more! Excellent points you make.

selkowbc good points here, but I think contact (less duffs etc) is only one bit while ball flight is the other. When you swing at Marcs Speed (and some) but deliver way more dynamic loft, that ball is never coming back down, esspecially with wind. Blades help with your ball flight here but makes you get some awful contacts. Speed changes things and loosing balls despite of a good hit because wind got the best of it is not fun either. I gamed hybrids up to 6 and blades down to 2, cant say what I like more. Going into p790 for next year, because I will probably not change my swing succesfully ;-)

@@JLNHB You can still flight the ball with these type clubs. I switched to Big Bertha irons a month or so ago and I've had no issues with flighting the ball.

Julian Meier I totally agree with you on your points. I have a slow and steady swing speed to try and keep the ball in play. I agree with these types of clubs getting the ball down can be tricky. I guess it’s just what each person is comfortable gaming. Cheers!

Makes sense to me. I play with a set of Taylormade hybrids myself. I obtained the # 8 & # 9 in these HB launchers so I would have a 34.5 degree and a 39 degree club for the shorter distances and some chipping. Nice combination.

I use the hb Launcher on Mark's recommendation. They are great for my 20hcp. The bad shots are less dramatic and the good ones are higher and longer. Very happy with mine!

I have tried to be a "purist" since taking up golf. Always playing blade irons: and constantly struggling with consistency. Still have a set of blades that I use maybe 3-4 times per year. Currently in my 60's; have lost that conceit for the thin top line. Now have a 5-SW set of HB turbo irons - - - - and love them. Golf is about having fun. This equipment is a benefit to my game. I have the graphite R-shafts. Easy swinging, generally a softer feel with a click at contact. Cleveland make nice gear. Many thanks.

I couldn't agree more! If they made these in single-length, they would arguably be the easiest to hit irons ever. I had the altitude irons and I let a number of guys try them. Almost every one of them hit a better shot than what I saw them hitting with theirs. I found it interesting, and even comical at times watching people hit great shots, and then begin to 'explain' how they won't work for them. Lol

OK, gentlemen... you've put together one of the best club analysis videos I've ever seen. Your choice of camera angles, detailed discussions on clubhead construction and what that means in results, analysis of the golfer's impression of the club at address based on the visual of the topline he's getting, and finally the statistical comparison to what they're currently hitting are nothing short of excellent. It's June 2020 and in July I'll be 68. I've been thinking of getting new clubs, but custom fit this time around. I'll be going to a Cleveland Golf Authorized Dealer for that, and I'll be indicating that I'd like them to look at this model as a good fit for me and my game. I had sort of selected the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo irons based on my research, but this video cemented my pick. Top notch work here, mates! Many thanks.

I love this style of club, I recently purchased a set of Tour Edge HL4 ironwoods that are similar. Being 53 years old and relatively new to golf I find them much easier to hit and help with club position at address. I’ve tried taking up the game in the past and have always been frustrated with the game until I found a set of clubs like these. My scores went from shooting 110 down to the mid to high 80’s by me changing to this style of golf club. Great videos, keep them coming...

Chris I bought a HL4 PW iron-wood to add to a 1/2 set of their older Bazooka iron-woods. I think the HL-4 is very similar in feel and looks to these Cleveland HBLT's. Performance was similar. The Bazookas are more hybrid like, less iron shape influence.

I bought the previous generation ( HB launcher irons) after a raving review from a buddy of mine. I’m a 4 hdcp and can’t speak highly enough of them. My ability to practice the long game has diminished over the years due to other commitments ( father of 3) yet I was finding that golf was becoming a struggle and every round was becoming a handicap break even struggle. I needed something that would give me confidence to hit more green and take pressure off. I opted for these and have not looked back. My big takeaway from these irons are the following:- 1) these clubs come very upright and are not adjustable friendly, I’ve found hardly any club fitter will touch them. 2) I’ve found that bad shots are well rewarded with not much distance fall off ( especially high flails). 3) the long irons oddly are difficult to control compared to the 6,7,8,9. 4) Distance control is very good and consistent and spin numbers are good. 5) I have difficulty hitting low under trouble ( escaped shots) as they have high launch. 6) in a weird way they encourage average strikes, yes you still need ball first but if you are used to compressing the ball then it could be difficult. 7) Totally agree about peer pressure about appearance, this is a tough one to break down, however beating opponents helps Taking all the above into account, I wouldn’t swap them for anything

The comment that “tradition is a weapon” is so spot on. I’m working my way down from 20 to 16 handicap now. And would love to hit more greens in reg ( my main downfall). You didn’t mention it, but the variance of offline was much better with the HB compared to your T300

I saw a review of the Wilson Launch Pad (a very similar style/club to these Clevelands), and went in to test the Wilsons. I'm 52, am around a 20hcp, but having trouble with my GIR. Need more consistent iron play. Been hitting fat and off center too many times. I asked the salesman to suggest a similar type club for comparison. He had me try the Cleveland Launcher. I'm glad he suggested it. I went back and forth several times. Super close, but the weight, balance and overall feel of the Clevelands edged out the Wilsons, in my opinion. It felt easier to hit clean shots. That leads to confidence, and we all know the sky's the limit when you believe in yourself. Amazing! Got fitted and can't wait for them to arrive. And no, I couldn't care less how they look if they can get me into the 80s regularly.

KNEW you'd like these, I always enjoy your consistency in attitude on looks vs results, while Dan was trying (and failing) to not look appalled until he hit his shots 😀. I bought a 4 to P set, 7 clubs, 2 months ago. They were a demo set & not 1 had hit a ball. The 1st ball I hit, I was sold. RRP was $1150, I paid $550 (Australian dollars) These clubs are awesome, & due to the clubhead weight, you can hit the ball so effortlessly. Slow back swing followed by a neat & tidy forward swing & that little ball is outta sight. I would recommend them to anyone.

Went to my local club and tried these in the driving range as I love my 3,4 and 5 hybrids (ping g30s) ..I absolutely loved them, they flew off the face, nice and high flight with a nippon shaft and I've ordered the 6 to sw with steel shafts.. Unfortunately covid is going to delay their production but I can't wait to get my hands on them... They really do seem so so easy to hit thru the middle irons which are my nemesis clubs ordinarily.. Great review by the way! 👍🏻

some people are getting it wrong with these irons or at least not 100% right. It is not about ,or only about, distance and height. I hit the ball quite high even with blades and hit my 7 iron 150 meters. For me it´s about consistency, number of mihits and quality of mishits which translates into me having fun in the golf course. That´s all I want and these clubs deliver.

I have a lot of time for Cleveland, and am still playing my old TA5 gunmetal irons. I’d struggle with these in the short irons as I like the feeling of cutting down into the ball, and in my mind these would push you more to sweep the ball. Mid to longer irons would be no issue though, and I’d be really interested to try them. To be honest I think my ideal set would be a right bunch of Frankenstein clubs, with barely anything coming from the same range or type. Love the fact that Mark uses two six irons as it properly fits with my experience

I just recently started gaming Callaway Big Bertha irons which have a similar design, almost hybrid like. They are a far cry from the blades that I've been playing for the last 10 years. I have to admit that they are much easier to hit and super forgiving. It's taken a while to get used to the look and sound but they are helping my game. I'm hitting the ball more accurately, hitting more greens which has increased my chances at birdies and I've been making more birdies. Have had to re-calibrate my chipping because the ball definitely comes off the club quicker. I'm super happy with my choice...but it's hard to beat the look of a blade and the feel of a well struck shot. Thanks for the review guys!

Good to see your review which considers them from the perspective of those that they are aimed at (higher handicappers with slower swing speeds). Any chance you can review a selection of hybrids which are most suitable for higher handicappers with slow speeds? Don't feel that most of the reviews in the magazines are objective enough and certainly not really from the view point of higher handicappers. Keep up the good work!

Maybe 12 years ago a high handicap friend of mine purchased a set of hybrid irons from Cleveland and changed his game altogether, he could then hit the ball better more often and much higher more often, he was a much happier player, I did not mind the look of them then and still can see them in my bag. I'm now in my very late 60's and have played my Cobra Fly Z irons since they came out, and still like them, but I know from this last year that my distance and high ball have taken a hit, in the bad way. These irons just might be what I need, I will send a note on to Santa, to see if they might be in my future for next year. Good video guys, thanks.

Great honest objective video. There are forums online that wouldn't even have the guts to review these just based on their "high handicapper" looks. I've used this club as a long iron replacement 4, 5i. Its really a hybrid iron crossover that you can work a bit easier than full length hybrid and from Cleveland... not fly by night " as seen on TV" brand. Yes the looks and sound take some getting used to but Cleveland does a good job with blacking out the body so at address you can visualize the face without much distraction. For 2020 I notice that Cobra is now following suite with their own take on this idea. Maybe a trend for higher handicap golfers with slower swing speeds who don't want to lay out big bucks for titanium and stronger lofted clubs at $300 a pop! Would be great to see more objective reviews like this one from Mark for the good of the game! I tend to hit my irons heavy and often play on very wet fairways, the sole helps quite a bit from digging on fat shots. You don't need a full set. Very low price, give them a shot especially if you struggle with longer irons and don't want to use longer shaft length hybrids and spend big $$ on a fix. They are an excellent solution if you can get past the looks and sound and your swing speed is not what it used to be...

I've taken the previous generation launcher irons to the range twice now and I am beyond blown away! I've struggled with good ball contact for years (casting a bit and hitting 2-3 inches behind the ball) but these wide soles have stopped this so much and have made me so much more consistent. I cannot wait until I can get my first round in the books with these now. I've been playing a lot of my life and I know these aren't magic but I can imagine i'll take off close to 10 strokes overall if i keep working on getting off the tee well.

Absolutely would, and did! Bought a set a week ago. Tried the Wilson LaunchPad and a few others. The HB Turbo hit the best of all for me. Can't wait to get the call to come pick them up!

I like them. I’ve got a really old set of blades and I’ve been looking at new sets. This looks like it could really help my game.

Handicap of 20, senior golfer. I have been a believer in Ping for many years. My favorite Ping clubs are the hybrid 3,4,and 5. I play them more than anyone in my group. My issue has been with my 7 iron, 8 iron, etc. I am seriously going to look now at these Clevelands especially 7, 8, 9. If they work just look my current hybrids, then they are a winning combo. Thanks for the class.

Awesome review Mark, I tried the launcher HB previous model at the golf shop and they are fantastic these are even better, Cleveland is so under rated, all of their line are long, forgiving and user friendly I have these on my radar for sure

Good review as always. I will try these and compare them to the Wilson Launch Pads. Any chance you can compare these? Thanks.

Very interested in these. Golfworks / Maltby used to make a RDM Recoil head that a friend bought and used. It made a huge difference in his game.

I think you're the best golf reviewer on RU-vid. Just slightly edging Rick S (hes bloody good too though). Btw as an average golfer I "would" game these.

I'm a five handicap and have been playing mp53. I've been putting more hybrids into my bag as I've gotten older. Currently the longest iron I'm now carrying is a 6. I would definitely be interested in gaming these irons. I'd like to see you do a comparison with Cobras new hybrid set.

Struggling with inconsistency in irons so keen to try these, no worries about the look if the scores come down

Not to mention they are considerably cheaper than most iron sets. Great review as always. I'd love to see you play a round of golf with them.
