When you cut the wire to make the light bulb turn on, you demonstrated what happens in your house if you have a floating neutral at the pole, the meter base, the panel or in a multiwire branch circuit, such as you might have for the kitchen countertop receptacles if your home is more than 25 years old.
also important to note that when you have a missing neutral to get it fixed right away because any 240 volt appliance will pull 240 volts but only through one wire and even worse electricity can jump to the metal housings of appliances because of that voltage increase. Of course this can damage your appliances and even cause lamps to fail.
Like I commented on the original riddle video. It's the impedance in a parallel circuit that prevented current flow to the light bulb. The light bulb acts as a resistor in a parallel circuit. Cutting the wire made it a series circuit giving the current flow only one path that will flow through the entire series circuit. This same concept is applied to micro chips utilizing logic gates via transistors to control the paths of electricity. I wouldn't say it's due to the potential voltage difference, but the potential voltage difference is a side effect of the impedance. Electricity does NOT follow all paths in a parallel circuit, but it does in a series circuit. Hope that all makes sense.
What you fail to realize as a RU-vidr is that when people get pissed off because you don't reveal the secret in the short and then have to take the time to go to your channel just to tell you this and that they will never watch another one of your shorts or ever visit your channel again because it's dishonest and deceitful , and obviously intentional, everybody knows the short is a feature that you tell your story in 60 Seconds if you can't don't do it because you'll piss people off. (I watch RU-vid shorts on my Amazon stick on my TV not on my computer but I can't get to your channel and easily comment on the fire stick)Your whole purpose is to attract people with a handshake mentality that they're willing to watch your program and see you over and over again with different videos and someday they might want to investigate your Channel and get more information not having to be forced to do it. You make money because they traffic your Channel at that point on their own.
Cool exercise Thanks for posting Is the voltage drop at the light bulb due to the resistance in the heater elements? Having two 120 volt loads in series, if you would have applied 240 volts, would it have worked properly? My guess is yes until the bulb burned out because too many watts were going through it. If two 120 volt hot plates were wired in series with 240 volts applied, they would work fine. Thoughts? Video suggestion, an explanation of the difference between watts and amps. They are both a measurement of a volume of electricity from what i understand.
