Faulty circuits have been connected into the new consumer unit and the wiring in this property is shocking!!

I don't know how the wankers cutting corners can sleep at night. The problem seems to be the lack of any recourse to the different registration schemes. Does anyone ever get "struck off" NICEIC or similar? The fact that someone has put a thumbs down already shows the attitude of some twats out there. They know they can get away with it and they will just carry on.

The NIC only seem to have one rule, that's 14b, I think, and that seems to relate to everything, when you see a contractor has been removed, it doesn't mean they have been struck off, they could have, but they could have retired, closed the business etc. The only time the NIC will prosecute is when they catch people using their logo, and I don't know why any body would do that, because the NIC will have anyone, just a corporate monster.

Three electricians registered with competent persons schemes on the job before Chris. So as a householder I have a 1 in 4 chance of getting work done that is safe. Why would I not do it myself? Why pay someone to put my home and family at risk? At least I would know where all the dodgy junction boxes are and how many spurs off spurs. Hell I might even have splurged on some Wago connectors and boxes and drilled the joists instead of notching them. I have electrical work I would like done but have no confidence that I can identify someone trustworthy and no confidence that the schemes will weed out the bad ones.

Yeah your right, or you could be unlucky and get 4 tossers turn up, and it's like everything there's two sides, the public side, where on the face of everyone does a good job and if it goes wrong you have the back up of part p, the governing bodies, building control etc, then there is reality, where nobody is interested if it goes wrong, and it's dragged on and on and on. And eventually you give up, and pay to have it put right, and the cycle continues.
@alunstone
@alunstone 4 года назад
I just responded to a comment above and I think part of the problem is part p and the short courses that say that somebody has a qualification without experience .I did electrical work for a number of years and I spent 4 years in college to get my certificate and I learned so much just being around the electrician I worked with,there is so much to learn concerning correction factors,maximum demand,diversity and I would say those courses do not even cover these .I had a change of career a few years ago so if I now wanted to do major electrical alterations legally I would have to contact building control even though I am qualified I don't have part P. It is concerning that someone can do a short course and get a part P licence and legally do this type of work so I understand what you are saying.

@@acelectricalsecurity Yeah if you want to cook people alive remember that even if you have a rather large 10 x 10 cm antenna mesh to get 10 watts you are already hitting 1 kW per square meter that is already going to feel like being baked by the high noon Sun as it will be heating your skin at the same power if you get the same distance from the transmitter. Trying to transfer hundreds of watts you can forget it as now you are talking thermal transfers closer to that of sticking your hand 1cm from the flame of an open fire. That is unless you use frequencies so high energy tissue doesn't absorb much of them but the problem there is that you are looking at gamma and x-rays which have other problems like the fact that even absorbing tiny amounts kills cells and trashes DNA etc.

Worst I found in it was a spur off of a spur from a ring, that was then spurred to a FCU that was wired to a 2 bar 1300W electric heater mounted over a window. You can see why a complete rip out and rewire is often the best and easiest solution.

That was an interesting video and a bit scary at the same time. I can't understand why anyone w9uld wire two three core cables into a single socket but I know it happens as a friend was complaining that the socket she plugged her vacuum cleaner in worked intermittently. I am not an ectrician but have done a few basic like for like replacement and sockets and stuff over the years so I thought it might just be a loose connection so I killed the power and opened the socket to find that mess. I put the socket back and suggested calling an electrician as I couldn't work out what was going on. The annoying thing is that the socket is in a really narrow space so no room for a double. Anyway, if someone could let me know why this would have been done I would love to know. Thanks.

Good to see you have a young one James - your apprentice? The advantage of your RU-vid channel and with Nick, Jordan and others it’s showing customers what they should expect. If they cannot show you the quality of their work don’t hire them. Unfortunately it does seem to be the case there are a lot of poor quality sparks who really are not doing the job other than for money. That’s what is shocking.

Why you in your state don't have junction box in the wall? And why don't wiring with conduit? It's so much simple to add a cable o change if problems...

An electrician put those sockets in wtf. I’m competent at diy and my sockets are a million times better.

Air powered sockets. Nice. A lot of those cables have been crushed in between boards so are probably pooped anyway. I assume that it was a shower of sheet inside the board? No doubt you will rectify properly but it is a shame there are so many lazy toe rags out there.

I'm not a domestic spark( build specailised geneartor testing equipment) but willing to bet there are more have boards out there being changed with no bonding/ tails upgrade no certs or installer info there really needs to be a tighter regulation for electrics there is for gas,

Shambles absolute shambles and shame to those registered electricians. Anyway when you get a quote of an electrician and they come with a builder that's when you turn them away far far away.

When I come across jobs like this I explain to the customer how awful it is and nearly every time I get the same response which is.... “yea but it will be ok won’t it??” 😂

Agree, but when it’s been like that for 5 years or more and it’s worked ok for them, I think they’re a bit sceptical!

The place definitely needs a rewire, doubtful the previous electrician done any testing whatsoever.

Did something similar to that socket at my first place - I put a flush TV outlet in the master bedroom but never got around to connecting it before I sold the place.

Customer half of the time “ well it works don’t it?” This is one of the reasons I don’t agree with the “you change the board you take responsibility”. Downgrading the mcb can get you out of Trouble but not grommets? Lashed up jbs under the floor? Make it law to be qualified same as gas and this shit won’t happen

Brad H What on earth makes you think that there aren't fully qualified and "properly" certified gas guys pulling exactly the same stunts? Having renovated properties in London and seen the appalling work and astronomical pricing of some, my reckoning is that perhaps one in four electricians or gas engineers operating here are actually doing a good job for a fair price. The rest are either overcharging massively, doing substandard and potentially dangerous work, or more usually, both.

That's some shocking work.... I done my apprenticeship, failed an exam at 4 years, as I failed twice on one out of 4 they wouldn't allow me continue, I got all top marks in everything else. Just because I haven't the papers, I'd still know how to do a half arsed better job then that.... Crazy what qualified ones are doing.....

I do not know European wiring codes, but not a single bit of that wiring is allowed in the us. Buried junction boxes are no way legal. Not to mention joists cut on surface to run wires. WOW, fire waiting to happen. I'd walk away!

Every country has its own code. In Finland you cannot hide junction boxes. They mus be accessible to an electrician. The owner cannot open them.
