@@theodoreritola7641 I agree! But also need to add some 60's in there for me! There were many great hits released then. Along with singers/groups that carried over. 😎
@rewdonaghy and @jamelakajamal He certainly was as 'HeathCliff' which featured the Best songs he's ever recorded. (Check out 'HeathCliff DVD filmed Late May 1997 and HeathCliff 'Live' CD recorded Late October 1996.
Cliff was the first person to discover Olivia Newton John. She had a recurring role on his British TV show well before the US had ever heard of her. They were life long friends. I really liiked this song when it came out.
Cliff Richard is one of the most successful recording artist of the United Kingdom. Between 1958 and 2009 he had 124 Top 40 hit singles (64 of which got into the top 10) including 14 number ones. He also appeared in a number of successful films in the 60s including Summer holiday and The Young Ones.
Well done for research Keith. Just to say Sir Cliff's song 'Reborn' released November 2018 was N0.1 on the Amazon chart. As streaming is the way records sell nowadays, he's actually had 15 N0.1's in Great Britain including 'Reborn'. Note for Jamal: Also because many 'different' songs were released as singles in other countries, then including the 'same' songs that were released in the UK as singles he's had 52 N0.1's 'worldwide'.😀
Cliff Richard is a legend in the UK. He started singing in the late 50s and churned out dozens of massive hits. US audiences know him from this song and his other hit, "We Don't Talk Anymore."
He also had hits in the USA with 'Suddenly' 'A Little In Love' 'Dreamin' 'Give A Little Bit More' 'What Car' 'Daddy's Home' 'Stronger Than That' (in US Dance chart) 'It's All In The Game' 'Lucky Lips' 'Living Doll', and the albums: 'I'm No Hero', 'Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile', 'I'm Nearly Famous' 'Wired For Sound' 'Something's Goin' On' 'Stronger' and 'The Cliff Richard Collection 1958 - 2003'.
Only The Beatles and Elvis Presley have sold more records than Cliff Richard in the U.K. He is the only artist in the U.K. chart to have had U.K. Number One singles in five consecutive decades (50’s to 90’s). He performs in one video entirely on roller skates (wired for sound). He is a great performer and a nice guy.
Cliff Richard is credited with recording the first British rock n roll song back in 1958. Back then British record companies would dictate to their artists what song they were going to record. I used to have a book that listed the top ten songs on the British charts for every week from 1954 to 1978. I don’t have that book anymore but in one week in 1955 or 1956 they had the same song by different artists and released by different record companies about six or seven times. The record company Cliff Richard had a contract with had him record the song “Schoolboy Crush”. He agreed to record the song they selected for him, if he could record an original song for the flip side of the 45 record. After he had recorded the song the studio picked for him, he was allowed to record the song “Move It” which had been written by a friend of his Ian Samwell on a local bus. Schoolboy Crush turned out to be a major flop and got almost no airplay on British radio stations. That could have been the end of Cliff Richard’s career, but one man Jack Goode flipped the record over and listen to that song Move It. Overnight Cliff Richard had become famous. The record company still had him record songs they selected for him, which he did with the agreement that the flip side song could be an original song. Most times the original song on the flip side was more popular than the song the record company had selected for him. In the early 1960s before The Beatles, Cliff Richard and his backing band The Shadows together and separately dominated the British charts.
Cliff Richard is a legend from the U.K. Other great songs from Cliff worth hearing ‘We don’t talk anymore’ and ‘Wired for sound’ and ‘Carrie’ and ‘Searching for a green light’. Also check out his duet with Olivia Newton John ‘Suddenly the wheels are in motion’.
Devil Woman was co-written by UK born/Aussie raised Terry Britten , who went on to co-write and produce Tina Turner's What's Love Got to Do With It & We Don't Need Another Hero. He also co-wrote with BA Robertson on BA's naughty take on history "Bang Bang". Terry & BA also wrote the songs "Goosebumps" and "He's My Number 1" for Aussie singer Christie Allen
Cliff also sang WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT. It was originally sent to Cliff to record, but his manager at the time passed on it without Cliff ever seeing it. He jokingly said that he fired the manager over it! It's on his HITS I MISSED video.
His career goes back to the time of Elvis, he was promoted as the Uks answer to Elvis in his early days. Hes one of the biggest selling artists of all time close to 250 million records sold over an 8 decade career. This track gave him his first ever US top Ten hit his other big hit in the US called We don't Talk anymore. He has actually placed a record in the US hot 100 in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s, the 80s, the 80s being his most successful period stateside.
While he has never achieved the same success in the US, it’s hard to overstate the length and breadth of his success in the UK. Over 140 top 40 singles, and number one hits in every decade from the 1950s to the 1990s. And he’s still going at age 81
Not for a movie….was one of his singles. He is a huge star/ legend in Britain. He started his career in the 50’s. He has always looked younger then his real age. He introduced Olivia Newton-John to the public ( was one of his back-up singers); he did a duet with her after she made it called Suddenly) just magical. He was born 1940 in Then British ruled India. When India gained independence, his family moved back to Britain, he was 8 at the time. He was knighted by the queen for his charitable work, he is now Sir Cliff Richard. Check out Move it, it was his 1st hit., We don’t Talk Anymore, Where do We Go From Here for starters…he’s got a wealth of songs, great voice, very nice guy.
So true and in an interview I saw on RU-vid Sir Cliff Richard said he was pleased and honored (paraphrasing here) that they had used this song in the movie. I tried to watch the movie clip of this song, only it was blocked here in the USA.
Interesting bit of trivia: Cliff was the biggest name in British music to try to "break out" in the US in the 50s and very early 60s, and he got no traction over here at the time. It's the main reason that the Beatles refused to try and make it in the US until they had a #1 record here.
This was used years later in “i Tonya” but was not written for that movie, song came out in the 70’s on the I’m Neatly Famous album.Sir Cliff Richard is a legend and a real human being! A very kind and for all his fame and money is just a normal guy. He started in 1958 with the song Move it! John Lennon said there was nothing worth listening to in Britain until Cliff and Move it came along. He has spot on pitch. A great voice to listen to. He was one of the original British rockers and moved on to a different sound. He appeared in movies, has several TV series, appeared in stage shows and pantomime. His live concerts are fantastic! He also did fantastic ( what he called “Rockspell”) music, concerts and albums, where proceeds went to charity ( usually TEAR fund), but also to various children, elderly and poor charities. Will send you a link to a song as soon as I find it…a live performance. In the mean time check out Dreamin, a Solid Gold performance. He is still performing and recording and the guy is now 83. 🇺🇸
This song and the song "It's so funny we don't talk anymore" are my two favs. I saw him when he came to the states back in the early eighties. He (rip) was very theatrical while singing on stage. He liked to dance and move around the whole stage when he sang. Even if it was on tv. Some critics would even comment that it was too much or over the top. Cliffs response was he just likes to have fun! Along with that, those same critics never said anything negative about Cliff's singing. Sometimes you can't please everyone! 😂
R I p ? Cliff is a very advanced age but he is still singing and recording. we had his Cliff at 80 last time around with a new album in production. as I write. it should be out for Christmas.
@@stephenqualtrough7322 Well I humbly apologize to (Sir) Cliff and to all his fans! (which includes myself) The RIP was out of respect. This past fall, I had watched a documentary of his life. It had shown a tour of his home which included pictures, awards and trophies. Towards the end of the video (I'm not sure if it was his life partner or manager) Had stated that he would be missed both personally and professionally. And that his star will shine on through the memories of stage and music which he leaves behind. I remembered the ending because of a single photo and the words that had followed. If the show is wrong. And he hasn't passed. I'm truly truly sorry, and apologize. Well wishes! On another note... There is one video among his many that I've fallen in love with. (Of course being 60 young, I still love the original versions by Jackie DeShannon or The Searchers) BUT... The video published July 29, 2022 of "WHEN YOU WALK IN THE ROOM" (Sir) Cliff Richard from the album Wanted released 2001. In the video, Sir Cliff Richard has never looked, moved and sounded better!❤️ I've watched and danced along to this video hundreds of times! Please have a listen! Once again, I'm so sorry for the miss understanding! 🤦🏻♀️
@@anytimejammin-eva Not to worry. In the meantime I hope you enjoy Cliff at 80 where he sings songs such as the Air that I breathe. In the recent Jubilee last June Cliff shared an open topped bus in a fun procession to mark the 70th year of Her Majesty the Queen coning to the throne. Check our any videos of this event Cl ff Richard was looking younger than ever
@@stephenqualtrough7322 Thanks for the heads up for more great videos! Hopefully he'll come back to the states so I can have another chance to swoon and scream like a young girl again! He's got so much energy when performing. You can't help but feed off it! 😚🤗
@@anytimejammin-eva All is well with my Soul rhe duet with Sheila Walsh is one of my favourites off the newish Cliff at 80 with prospects of more to come soon
Was a big hit for him here in the States, and long before MTV.. Great tune.. back when we collected 45 single records.. Please check out " Bad Blood" , by Neil Sedaka and Elton John.. same record label and time period.. thanks.
Love this song. Cliff is still performing and he's now in his 80s! 2 other FAB songs by Cliff are "It's So Funny (We Don't Talk Anymore") & "Wired For Sound". He has lots more hit songs too, but they are my favourites. ❤🇬🇧🎼
His backing band in the 60's was The Shadows, who simultaneously became a leading act in UK and in Europe in what in the US is mostly referred as "surf music", meaning guitar instrumental music. The Shadow's members composed several hits to Richards, himself often participating. They parted ways in 1968, Shadows anding until 1975. Since then they did re-union tours every now and then. The Shadows have called it a day 2015.
Loved this and got the 45 when it came out. I remember my Mom laughing at me when I was jamming out to it. I said, “What’s so funny?” and she said, “Oh, you’ll understand.” And now I certainly do.
us Brits of a particular age grew up with Cliff Richard. I loved him but some HATED him. Please react to 'we don't talk anymore' live and the video for 'wired for sound' Also 'move it' from the 60s. He also starred in a 60s movie called 'Summer Holiday'.
Nope, the writer of the song and BRUCE WELCH said that it's actually about a prostitute, but Cliff was so nieve, he didn't believe it and recorded it anyway.
I best Remember Cliff Richards doing a Duet with Olivia Newton John (RIP Beautiful woman) called "Suddenly". Cher did a song along these line's called "Dark Lady". FOR ME, the Lead guitar mimicking Cliffs voice made the song "Spookier".
The lead guitarist on this song was Terry Britten who wrote Devil Woman, as well as Tina Turner’s song What’s Love Got To Do With It. Terry has also written many other songs for Cliff, the last one I can think of (without looking through my CD collection) is Rise Up that was released in 2015.
"Devil Woman" was Cliff Richard's biggest hit in the U.S., peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 25, 1976. In an eerie coincidence, the song maintained its peak position for two additional weeks, on the Hot 100 charts dated October 2, 1976 and October 9, 1976. That's three consecutive weeks at its #6 peak for "Devil Woman": 6, 6, 6. Besides its eerie sound, what I enjoy the most about "Devil Woman" is the fact that it has some early heavy metal undertones to it, which seems to catch a lot of people by surprise.
Cliff Richards had a huge hit. Can’t think of the name of it at the moment. Thanks for not giving up despite all the troubles you’re having with the channel.❤️
We Don't Talk Anymore. Also did a duet with Olivia Newton John Suddenly. He let her guest on his show waaaay back, so she returned the favor, sort of....after she got huge.
Cliff Richard is a legend in the UK - a string of hits for decades starting in the 1950s, but for some reason he never really hit in the US. Another hit from the same time as this one is "Carrie", well worth checking out. Back in the early to mid-70s there were a lot of eerie songs like this, not necessarily movie related. Anne Murray's "Angie Baby" is another creepy one from that era.
Jamel, this tune & Eagles Witchy Woman used to scare the bejeezes out of me as a kid, but now I sing them to the top of my lungs, lol. You literally just took me on a memory train back to my grandma babysitting me when my momma worked overnights. Thanks for the music, sir! Love it! 🤘🤩🎶❤️
My notifications are ticking me off!! I requested these and am just now seeing them!! Thank you sooo much Jamel!!! 💜✨💜. P.S. I’m sure it’s been played in some movie or somewhere- AND thanks so much again Jamel! That/those bass lines are always what I hear first- LOVE a good bass groove!! 💜✨💜
Great reaction to a classic hit. Diggin your moves while reacting. The intro of this song is the best. You know what’s coming throughout the song. Lovin the new mic Jamel.
It was not in a movie. It was a standalone song. It just started coming on the radio out of nowhere. He was not popular in the United States. But extremely popular in England. Ringo Starr has a different song by the same name. It is incredible. You should give that one a listen.
Sir cliff had some great songs like do you wanna dance Apache Move it the young ones Summer holiday All from the 60's and played with the shadows and had a number 1 nearly every year at Christmas through the 90's
Correction: Apache is an instrumental song that was recorded by his band then The Shadows. Apache was The Shadows first number one song on the British charts. It replaced Cliff Richard’s number one song Please Don’t Tease which was written by Bruce Welch who was the rhythm guitarist for The Shadows.
This song brings back memories. My old band used to play this. Jamel you mentioned the bass, and I always enjoyed playing this bassline. Glad this video came through alright!
I saw you at Smorgasburg the other day! If you are in British 70s mode check out "Sugar Me" by Lynsey de Paul and some SLADE! (Cum On Feel The Noize, Mama Weer All Crazy, Gudbuy T Jane) Noddy Holder has one of the best rock voices ever.
Exactly! I think this is the first time I have actually SEEN Cliff Richards, and I know he was a heartthrob, but no one could beat Donnie Osmond for me (ah, youth.)
One of my favorites from the past! The lyrics were clever and the music matched the lyrics so well! So gals you enjoyed this one! Keep doing your thing!
Thank you, Brother, you hang in there. Just know that in the ‘70’s, they sang songs like this just for the sake of singing creative songs. “Dark Woman”, by Cher, comes to mind, just like ELO’s “Evil Woman” and The Eagles’ hit “Witchy Woman” as examples of ‘70’s music of the same vein.
Jamel, I have been away for awhile, but I'm so happy to be watching you again. You are always so upbeat. I remember this song came out when I was in high school.
