Showing you step by step how to perform the strategy that i call "outclimbing".
Make sure you have gained enough Distance between yourself and your follower before you start the climb and do not try this strategy against an enemy with significant energy advantage. If your enemy has an energy advantage you have to set an "energy trab" first to make him loose his energy or use an "airbreak" - I will make tutorials for these maneuvres too.

Right. The combination gives you some safety because he won´t be able to pull the necessary lead and you will either gain enough altitude before falling down on him or he will stall because he tries to shoot.

Just so people know, a lot of what he showed in this tutorial has changed in the more recent team fusion patches. Ape explains these changes in his later videos. As he says, these changes do not make these strategies impossible, but they do balance the game more and also make it more historically accurate. Just so you guys know :)

Ape, great tactic if your aircraft has equal or greater energy… now with that Spit 2, and not being able to tell what you’re fighting/engaging, a spiral climb or climb for that matter, will get you into trouble.

thx, its the counter to the spitfires out- turning. I will probably play on ATAG this evening and i´ll install TS later so maybe we can fly together in formation. I think tonight i will start flying and learning about the spitfire.

This works not because the spitfire is not as good a climber, it's because the following plane to bring his guns to bare has to pull hard which brings him into a near or full stall... it's an original tactic.

In this Video i am flying the 109 E4. I am not sure but i think i know what you mean- it might be that they took the different looking windows a little bit earlier and placed it into the later E variants. E1 and E3 for example have the rounder shapes. E4 has the stronger edged shapes, i am not sure if this is accurate or if it actually was the F Version that had these Windows, but it is the E4 in this game, and F Version isn´t into this game since it "plays" in the earlier years.(plusMK2- E4N)

This works great and quite often on atag! i could fool many spitfire with this technique :) thanks for your tutorials ! i may not been able to score too much yet but at leat i've survived almost all my spit encounter till now! i yet have to get use to the 109 high speed behavior (i generally arrive too fast on my target arround 600km/h and at that speed the 109 is not very responsive ^^ )

First of all: Thx for your input.Of course it is right that the follower has to line his gunsights up for a “lead”,which makes him likely to stall in a climbing situation like this,an important part of the strat.But you only get away with doing this because the spit is a lot worse in climbing than the Bf 109,I could climb up like that all day and would gain more and more altitude advantage over the following spit, so it wouldn´t work to do this with a Spit against a clever Bf109 pilot because-

Your right. As i said in the description you should never use this strategy against a follower with energy advantage. I have found out some even better and especially safter ways by now to outclimb english fighters. I will put up a tutorials as soon as i am home again. Right now i cant upload, even if i have preprepared some clips, it takes about 3000 minutes to upload one...

- ...The Bf109 pilot could gain more altitude first and then attack from an advantageous angel, not being forced to climb so hard when he finally lines up for the shots. So it does depend on having a worse “climber” as the following enemy. I can imagine it is an original strat but i found out about it on my own.

greetings from trinidad!i bought IL2 1946 out of curiosity and i was enjoying the steep learning curve (while getting battered in the finn campaign) then i saw your IL CoD videos and i became HOOKED! i got the game yesterday and with the few tricks i learned from you i am having such a great time! i want to say thank you so much! without your videos IL would have been a mix of frustration and reward now it is just so much fun. hopefully i wont become overconfident :) :) :) if you have a paypal donate button somewhere i will gladly buy you a beer or a coffee :) thanks again, brother ps. what joystick options would you recommend? or is there a way to get keyboard control to be less jerky/bumpy?

nekkidguitarist Have fun with the Game! I do not take donations, maybe i will someday take "video orders" or sth like that, but right now i dont have anything like that set up. I recommend the T16000 thrustmaster for beginners and the Hotas Warthog for advanced pilots ( the t16000 has an extremely good price/performance, its nearly as good as the warthog, only without all the buttons and the seperate throttle). If you have the money left you should get TrackIR, too.

Weil ich die aufnahmemethode benutze, also den flug mit dem ingame aufnahmetool aufnehme und dann nochmal anschaue um den commentary zu machen. Ich glaub ich werd dass ab jetzt immer machen weil ich dann mehr Zeit habe um meine Ideen zu erklären als wenn ich direkt während dem Flug schon kommentiere. Und wenn man dieses Tool benutzt scheinen die Instrumente teilweise etwas zu spinnen.

I am no expert Spitfire pilot but i could do a small guide for the Spitfire if really needed. The reason there are no guides is that the Spitfire doesn´t really need to be flown with a certain strategie to be succesfull. It has overall good performances. The 109 however is most of the time only succesfull if used in a certain way ( energy fighting). Since i don´t have much experience with flying the spit myself i guess i wouldn´t be the best teacher but nethertheless i would have some tips .

I understand all the maneuvers you can do in the spit i just don't understand when to use them.its getting the energy fighters to bleed speed i struggle with. against AI opponents on the original game all they had to do was fly level and i could never ever catch them. Ace opponents were far to accurate for me to win in a head on fight. a guide with air bleeding maneuvers and complex engine management at different altitudes would be just what the doctor ordered ;-).

Kinda, but not really. A real ropa a dope is when you have an significant energy advantage and a follower behind and slightly below - now you can climb up nearly straight and at a great angle because you know he doesn´t have the energy and angle to climb or cut your climbing angle, he will stall and fall down way before you do and you turn in behind him while he is falling down after his stall, maybe even spin.

so, the move is dependant on, the lower enemy, spitfire, exceeding his maximum angle of attack (which causes him to lose lift, when he pulls up nose to attempt to shoot)? that's one way you could dive on him, but it relies on spitfire losing a little bit of lift first. but of course the slower way is to keep climbing and eventually spit would either get left behind too much, so you could pull towards spitfire and make a diving attack?

What you did was 'Rope-A-Dope' maneuver.

Kamil Skalny No not really. A rope a dope is a maneuver where you pull straight up, after a dive attack for example, where you know that you have significantly more energy than the opponent, and therefor he wont be able to pull up like you do. This outclimbing here starts with equal energy. It is similar though, especially in the aspect of waiting for his mistake to try and follow, getting to slow, becoming a good target. But like I said it doesnt build up on an initial energy advantage but on the better sustained climbing abilities of the 109.

I have changed my technique a little in the meantime. I climb straight and at shallow angle first at around 360 kmh, then when the distance is big enough i climb more aggressivly until my speed is just slightly above 300 km/hs. Now I perform kind of an immelmann but with a direct transition in a right hand turn at around 250km/h. The Spitfire now will have to fight hard against the engines torque when following the right hand turn. Its difficult for the 109 pilot too, but at speed around 200 - 250 kmhs the leading egde slats will help alot and you can spiral up just at the tip of stalling. So instead of the chandelle i often go more into and immelmann kind of turn first which I transition into a right hand turn at around 200kmhs. Its difficult not to stall but for the spitfire even more.

The british planes didnt built to be speeders, like the 109. They have a lot bigger drag, thats the price of the good turn rate.

Hello. How to use prop pitch in diving and then in horizontal flight ??? RPM was near 2500 but the tips were still moving. Its some bug in recorded track or a changing the pitch settings? Isnt 2500 RPM correct only for climbing ? Shouldnt we use less RPM during separation from enemy ?

The instruments show buggy stuff in a recorded track. E4 - 2500 for climbing aggressively at a high angle or for a short amount of time. Usually 2400 should be the maximum, i even prefer 2300 in most situations. Members of our Squadron tested it once and got maximum performance at 2300 at leveled flights - But it might have changed since the latest Patch.

It's stupid for a ME-109 pilot to engage a spit fire in a turn fight and it's stupid for a spit fire pilot to engage the ME-109 pilot in boom and zoom fight

It's funny that whatever I type in its always bf 109 tactics. It's as if spitfire tactics don't exist. If anybody knows of a spitfire guide for either this game or the original I'd greatly appreciate it.

No I don't play cliff of dover or Bos I only play wings of duty bro. Ah private tutorial? No no thanks it's okay bro but seriously awhile ago when I playing my game I did your tactics vs the hurricane awhile ago and I shot him down. It' s very effective Seriously but sometimes spitfires show me down by following me.

It is not as easy as it looks. You will need some practice to perform this climbing maneuver properly and dont do it against a follower with energy advantage.

I would turn into you to steepen your dive. At that low altitude and speed, you wouldn't pull out in time. Even if you did you'd black out. That's why this is a stupid game..
