Climbing Cotopaxi was an amazing experience. I had previously climbed Cayambe and was getting ready for Chimborazo when I decided to tackle Cotopaxi. I got amazing weather, had a great time, and was able to summit! Follow along as I Vlog my entire Cotopaxi experience and sit down after and share some tips about the hike!

Thank for for the great video clip Laura, and well done for getting to the top ! - I am thinking of doing this one towards the end of 2021 and your clip is very informative - I am a bit worried about summit night and how tough it might be - I've done Kilimanjaro and summit night was tough but I made it Oct 2019 - do you think Cotopaxi summit is much tougher than Kilimanjaro summit?

I'm glad that you found it helpful!!! The guy I was with had done Kilimanjaro a few years prior but I have not done it yet so cannot for sure say. A lot of it is how your body handled altitude. If it's okay (or if you have time to acclimatize for a while in quito first), I think you'll be okay! Would just suggest putting in long hikes for training!

@@LauraLeanne many thanks for the reply Laura, I'll be sure to get a few days in Quito beforehand then to help with the altitude - its gonna be an Ecuador or Nepal trip depending on which one opens up to the UK first for travel, - look forward to watching more of your clips ! Tom :)

Thanks so much! Yes, we did use a guide. I'll be honest I wasn't a huge fan of it though. We used AAI but there are sooo many. I would do some research and choose another local one ☺️

Beautiful and congrats!! How did you prepare for acclimatizing? Took pills? Any tips? I am a flat lander and have to be extra careful.

I stayed in Quito for about a week prior (such a higher city than I'm used to) and did a bunch of hikes from there. You can see them also on my channel :) no pills though or anything

I climbed in September of 2021. I would say just ask your guide to brief you on any specific sections ahead of time. This was my very first time doing anything like this so I was honestly very unprepared and jumped headfirst into it without many questions. There were a few sections you need to get through as quickly as possible and NOT stop so knowing when those are coming up is pretty important. It's both mentally and physically challenging but like Laura says, "one foot in front of the other."
