I'm totally jealous. I made this hike with three of my kids a couple of years ago, we were going up that last bit of super slipper shale and the youngest freaked out, he couldn't do it. We were so, so close to the top, but never made it. Kid was a trooper though, only 10 years old and made that whole hike.
I think we got there about 4:45 and were on the trail by 5. For the most part we escaped the heat of the afternoon. I hope you have clear skies when you go!
Man. You did what I always dreamed of. How did you access the climbers bivouac ? Wasn't it barricaded ? Did you have a permit or did you just go it on your own (they did not issue any this year to the best of my knowledge ). Well done .. thank you for the great video.
Road was open for us all the way to the trailhead at CB. I believe they "reopened" the trails in late May??? Anyway it was all clear by this time in late July. Perfect conditions as you can see. We did have a permit, you don't need one after September though. We are very amateur, so it is a very doable hike...bucket list for me no doubt. Take it slow though, totally worth it! And thanks for watching!
@@jongoodwin yes. I was there at the end of may. And most places were barricaded. We could go as far as the snow park but the CB road was barricaded. I'll try to make it again this year before it gets too cold.
You gotta do it! Permits usually go on sale in mid-March on recreation.gov but they sell out quick. If you miss out keep checking because sometimes people cancel and they go up for sale again.
It looks like the permit system is different for this year...instead of a free for all in mid-March, permits for a certain month go on sale on the first day of the preceding month...In other words...May permits go on sale April 1, June permits go on sale May 1, and so on.
@@sammencia7945 reflecting back, you are right. I felt like I was “pulled” up by the other three guys :) adrenaline will certainly take you a long way!
