I was 10 years old when Mount St. Helen's erupted..... Damn!

Devastation, flattened the landscape where trees stood and lush meadows once laid a silent landscape choked by fallen ash and dust. The contrast of the present with new growth trees pushing through a new canopy reborn. A gaping wound in the earth is left. Yet, Mother nature is relentless and her work sculpting the earth begins. I've enjoyed all your videos. But I think this one is my favorite, so far. When Mt. St. Helens erupted in May of 1980 it caught even the experts off guard. Glad to know there is more sophisticated technology to better monitor the mountain today. When the mountain blew, the explosion and prevailing winds carried volcanic ash eastward crossing several states. I visited friends in Coeur d'Alene Idaho during Memorial Weekend of that year. My friends told me of the ash blanketing everything. One friend even had a layer of ash still in his engine compartment of his Volkswagen bus. 6 years later I visited the Mt. St. Helens area. Couldn't get close to the mountain, of course. But I was very surprised to see Mother Earth already giving birth to new life in some of the more outlying areas. Small green plant shoots and the occasional wildflower were already sprouting through the devastation. I was impressed to witness the sheer tenacity of life. And now to see how much has grown from your videos is truly awe inspiring! I was planning on returning to Washington state but thanks to your videos, I'm moved it to the top of my list. Thanks for sharing. I hope you have better luck with Mt. Rainer than I did on my first visit. I was there for 3 days and the mountain was shrouded in clouds the entire time. On my second trip, 8 years later, I had bright sunshine and inspiring views. Good luck!

A lot of that area you walked looked like the surface of the moon for the first few years after the blast. Crazy how life slowly reclaimed that desolate landscape. Thanks for sharing

If you’re still in the area, check out the Survivors Center on Spirit Lake Highway. It will give you a very in-depth history of what happened in that area. There is also a nice campground there.

1980 a rare horizontal eruption..there was a few weeks ago some activity of 2.6 quakes..it's building molten lava slowly

Some of the trees are 70 feet tall and fish where back in the creeks and lakes years before scientists thought they would be. The Earth recovers quickly.

Sydnie.. do yourself a favor and watch the documentary on the eruption. Pay close attention to the fellow named Harry Truman. Quite a character indeed...(the roof issue.. get a can of 3m adhesive.. spray.. cut a hole in your headliner and shoot the 3m adhesive all around. Then push and hold the headliner in place for a few minutes.)..At that spot where you take a hike ... would you have survived the eruption?

I first went up there in 2003. Even twenty years after the blast, it looked like the surface of the moon. I hardly recognize it now, with all the greenery.

Might wanna brush up on some math skills …… Mt. Saint Helen erupted in 1988, then that was 36 years ago now , NOT 44 as the video tag stated. Unless you’re posting this from the future ….😉😆. I’m 64 , and can still remember watching the news coverage on that devastated area on T.V. A friend who was a trucker used to travel through that area & he brought me a little zip lock baggy full of the ashes he grabbed full for me to show what was blowing all around afterwards. Sure made a mess . Mother Earth can be quite violent at times.

Syd, there has to b a setting u can manipulate, on ur car, which will automatically lock ur door(s) - when ur in it. Might want to figure out how to set it. Nothing good is going to happen if a predator (human) sees u as prey.🔺 Ur visiting/camping some remote areas.🫵
