FYSA - I did a couple DIY mods to the saddle, platform and the spurs. On the spurs I replaced the leather straps with 2” webbing and 2” buckles for the top fastener and 1” buckles and webbing for the bottom. Links to what I used below. I tried those one in strap and buckle on my Buckingham Spurs they kept loosening up just curious to how they work for you or maybe you did something different

Jeremey 4490 hey brother. I haven’t had that problem but I added one of those metal strap keepers just in case it ever did slip. Using 2” up top and 1” on the bottom.

Even after 3 years I have yet to see a more mobile, compact, or efficient method of hunting out of a tree...neither on youtube nor anywhere else for that matter!

Great video. My friends & I were using tree climbing spurs back in the 1980's before anyone else (or so we thought). Used with a small aluminum loc-on stand, very mobile system. Hard to beat them., used them for over 20 years before switching to climbing tree stands. Stopped using them after being criticized often for damaging tree's - although the damage, if any, is minimal in my opinion. Nice to see a successful hunt in the end. Looking forward to the upcoming month's, hope you tag a monster.

underdog outdoors Thanks for watching, sir! I’ve only started using them and love the benefits they come with. I’ll be monitoring whether or not they seem to impact the trees I climb and that will inform my decision to continue using them or not.

Do another video of your whole setup for mobile hunting and a view of the whole climb and setup. Very interested in having a setup like this just would like to see how everything comes into play.

Do you keep the spurs on when standing on the platform? Does it make extra noise or cause more of a slipping hazard on the metal platform?
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 5 лет назад
zach myers Hey Zach, good question. I do not keep the spurs on once I reach the platform. I unbuckle them and clip them to my gear rope on the backside of the tree. That way they are out of my way but easily accessible for the climb down. Hope this helps
@paulcrave3826
@paulcrave3826 5 лет назад
How do you set up your platform so it’s not in your way climbing past it?
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 5 лет назад
Paul Crave you can leave the platform cammed up or just loosen your flip line a little and climb past it. It wasn’t too much of a sticking point.

Which brand climbing hooks are you climbing with,and doesn't the metal make noise on the stand?

Sam Hotstick13.2 Hey Sam, I’m using climbright aluminum spurs w the ultralight pads. I put my own buckles on. Once I get on the platform I take the spikes off and hang them up w my bag.

You might think about putting some covers On those spurs so you done impale yourself in some freak slip and fall.
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 5 лет назад
Paul Crave that’s the next step. Plan on using little sections of garden hose and small bungee cords to hold them in place.

Any videos on the mods you made to the spurs?? Buying a set and looking to get set up to mod them. Thanks!
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 Год назад
I do not have a video showing the mods. What I can tell you is I replaced the foot straps (leather and metal buckles) with 1” military grade strapping with 1” hard plastic buckles. I replaced the leather strap at the top of the stick with 2” strapping and 2” buckles. Got most of my info from some climbing spur threads on saddlehunter.com. Modifying spurs is dangerous and you do so at your own risk. Be careful and do your homework whatever you decide. These are the aluminum Ultralight spurs

What were you doing there for straps on your Mantis? Looks like you used a strap for your platform?
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 5 лет назад
Paul Crave Correct. I put a webbing strap with metal stoppers through the MOLLE on the Mantis so I could secure the predator platform to it.
@cdp50359
@cdp50359 4 года назад
Bro, stop using that linesman rope before something bad happens! Use your girth hitch all the way up. The linesman rope will not keep you from going straight down. Please hunt safe.

Are you going with the Mantis over the Flex?
@SeasonsChange24

Paul Crave Hey Paul, I’ll be using them both but plan to use the Mantis during the early season. I’ll use the Flex if I have especially long sits cause it’s so darn comfortable.

I had to sell my Climb Right spurs. They were doing too much damage to trees for me.
@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 4 года назад
Bryson Hollar I’ve noticed that on smooth bark trees like water oaks and beech they leave considerably more noticeable marks than on tough-barked trees like red/white oak, ash etc. I avoid climbing the smooth trees because a) they’re more slippery b) they leave marks showing I’ve climbed them. None of the trees that I’ve climbed (some of them more than ten times) for practice have shown any signs of decline in overall health. I don’t see how a gash from a tree spur exposes the tree to any more harm than say, removing a limb. Removing a limb cuts through all layers of bark and exposes a much larger surface area to the elements. I could be off on this but these are my observations so far. Thank you for the insight though, I’ll watch out for that.

On pines it’s completely fine, the cambian layer constantly rejuvenating.
