The porters are amazing. I went up a different route, and there is no way I could have made it without the porters and crew. And they were super nice too. (in addition to my guide, Poul, who was among the nicest people I have met, there was a summit porter named Daoud Dominic who was an absolute gem. And the cook. And all the rest... what a lovely crew!) Good luck Dixie !!!! And enjoy (even when it is ridiculously tough)
I have to say, seeing the porters/sherpas laden with triple sized packs made me very sad. I once went on a Caribbean cruise and never again. Everyone on the cruise was rich and white and everyone making our beds and serving our meals was poor and brown. I get that they make a decent living with this job (You explained that in your video about deciding which group to go with) but there is something that really hits me in the gut when I see people of colour doing the bidding of white people. I think that's why I love the autonomy and self-reliance about hiking in my neck of the woods.
Porters all around the world always blow my mind. Imagine hauling heavy gear up a mountain over and over is your actual job! They’re practically superhuman!
Dixie, I am truly enjoying and reminiscing about my trip to Kili. I did a different route, but I saw that you went to a crater, but I am not sure if it was the same crater I went to. Reusch Crater and ash pit? It just looks different…great episodes! I saw the full length as well, beautifully shot!
Sometimes I even say " Oh! How Beautiful!" instead of my usual "Holy Crap!", especially when Im overwhelmed with the awesome view!! Altho, now that I think of it, saying "Holy Crap" as I face the outhouse first thing in the morning might be considered to be a devotional term of worship! LOL! Why do those trees on the way up look like they have been in a forest fire? Beautiful wildlife shots too! Another great videeo! Congrats!
Never saw a bunch of hikers and climbers in the moon footage and very limited video editing possibilities in the late sixties. Maybe they actually shot it on the moon.
One other curiosity.... I love running and am fascinated with Kenyan running. I've heard they train at high elevation on Kilimanjaro. Did you see any training?
*_Hello... wow Kilimanjaro, a very prestigious mountain climb, I just watched it until I really focused on enjoying your video... greetings from Indonesia_*👣👣👣⛰🏕💯👌👍
