I like how Dr. Grande provided an overview of the intake process to the client. Dr. Grande explained the reasons for asking similar questions, which stops any agitation/defensiveness that the client may have when being subjected to similar questions over and over.

I agree. This process is too lengthy to avoid an explanation because it will surely frustrate someone by the length and depth of information gleaned.

I liked how the intake process was not only explained in the intake video but throughout. I also liked how Dr. Grande asked her if she felt that the diagnosis given to her was a fair assessment.

I liked how Dr. Grande began the session with explaining the process of intake and advised the client that it will go in her chart and will help to guide her care. I liked how he worded this and how he explained to her that the questions were more detailed and more emotionally oriented. His explanation of the prior information and how this information will be pertaining towards what she is going through I think was helpful. I think it was good that Dr. Grande went over all of this prior to him beginning and how he advised her that if there was a question she didn’t feel comfortable asking she didn’t have to answer it.

They are sitting weirdly close

LOL I was thinking that exact thing. If I were the girl I would feel so uncomfortable because I'd be constantly worrying about the bottom of his shoe touching my leg skin.

I know! Look at her body language. That would be me. Arms and legs crossed.

This video is better than the ones before in that it explains clearly to the client the process and an option to choose not to respond. Also i liked that he asked her to rate her anxiety

I found this video to be extremely helpful and straight forward. Demystifying the process.

This is a good example of how to smoothly transition from intake to actual therapy.

I found it particularly helpful in this video that he explained the assessment process continuously throughout the intake. It appears to have helped him develop a rapport with the client (and potentially alleviate some of her present anxiety). Very useful for our final project!

I agree that his explanation was a helpful example of how an intake can be explained to a client. I had difficulty doing so in my intake project, but will try to model how Dr. Grande went about it in the future.

I would sit farther away, like on the other side of the room with a desk between us. Or closer to the plant than to him. I would feel uncomfortable sitting that close to a virtual stranger. I was afraid of my boyfriend when I first met him. He's 6'9 AND has wide shoulders, and he's fully German. I was a little afraid at first. I'm 5'4. He looks like a true Viking and he's an armed guard for a living. My "family" history always takes a half hour just to get through the unbelievable mess that's my family; e.g., biological family, foster family, then adopted family. I even had a Jewish foster mother (being half German, I thought they were STUPID to put me with a Jewish person.) I told her right away that my dad is full German and then apologized for it but she wasn't angry at me, even though she lost 22 fam members at Auschwitz, Buchenwald & Bergen-Belson.

Very good video and I really liked the explanation of the intake and assessment process to the client in the beginning

I agree. Although it was only a few seconds, the time Dr. Grande took to explain the assessment to the client was valuable. It may not seem like much, but many counselors jump straight into the questions without much of an explanation and that can make a client uncomfortable.

This particular video follows the intake interview form provided on blackboard, and demonstrates the flow and timing of each category.
