In clinical supervision, the clinical supervisor needs to discuss steps in the process, and anything that impacts the counseling process, and the clinical supervisor needs to work on their delivery when giving criticism regarding the supervisor's clinical skills if you don't have a supportive supervisor and they use direct confrontational skills to make comments based on your case conceptualization skills, how can you function grow? The clinical supervisor needs to take on the role of a teacher and be an encouraging advisor, talking to a supervisee in a very demeaning way seems to be very counterproductive, the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills considered developing is helpful, I like the consultant role be on the same level, the discrimination model needs to be tailored to supervisee's roles, a style of interaction working with one supervisee is different if the supervisee feels that you don't have confidence in their clinical abilities, or that you are trying to not value the positive aspects of their skills, the supervision falls apart.

In the 1st scenario: The supervisor talks far too much & is feeding her his opinion of what is going on for the client. He is telling her to tell the client to dismiss his own perspective. Cognitive restructuring? Imagine this in the case of a child who has been sexually abused & really needs someone to believe him/her.

Well, in the first scenario I was enacting a "teacher role" a la Bernard's counselor supervision discrimination model. Supervisors take a much more active/directive role when functioning as a "teacher." The nice thing about this particular model is that the supervisor can vary their approach depending on the needs of the supervisee (or even vary roles - teacher, counselor or consultant - with a supervisee in the same session).
