My Church in Houston had ALL of that. A Grocery store, a Restaurant, a Strip Center to provide retail space, an apartment complex, a neighborhood where they built both Single family and condo/townhomes. But much it wasn’t patronized, so the grocery store and restaurant went out business…

The biggest problem I see is that folks aren't getting married and building. The men are not choosing a woman to marry, and we all are falling into fornication. Fornication is a way bigger problem than we want to deal with. This isn't even associated with religion, church or anything like that. There are principles in the earth that work no matter what. There was an article in Psychology Today that showed a survey, and statistics shows that couples stayed together longer and had better relationships if they didn't engage in sex before marriage. Even if the couple was atheist. Even if the couple had engaged in sex before with other partners but did not with the one they married, their relationship was less likely to end in divorce. The biggest problem that I see in church is that while they are trying to cater to everyone in church and not hurt anybodies feelings, they are getting away from what the bible is actually teaching. They aren't encouraging people to understand the bible for themselves and read it. They also aren't encouraging people to talk to God for themselves. So what you have is a bunch of people in church living the same defeated lives they've always been living but trying to get their conscience cleansed from any wrongdoing. So, in comes sloppy grace. You can do whatever you want, and God will forgive you. But, you wonder why your life and relationships aren't going right. You haven't made your life accountable to God. In comes wolves who know that. You can save yourself from being used by pastors by being accountable to the word of God.

I remember this church in Jacksonville FL had a mall, school and restaurant. So it is possible for others to do.

I disagree with what Dr. Umar said about the dusty brothers! That’s the problem… many Blk single women have been putting themselves in harms way… building relationships and pro-creating with “dusties” and getting taken out of here when they decide to break up. White woman are not chasing after dusties because they do not have to.

Black Women choose career because there’s no man around providing for us. I was actually taught to be a self-sufficient independent by my father, verbally and by how he failed consistently to help my mom provide.

“Analyzing stock” has not proved well for black women. When a black woman tackles this concept she is easily seen as a stepping stone to something better. There may be good intentions in the beginning but options widen as the man’s social status rises and he feels he can do better.

No mentors. My uncles were my protector. I had guys in the community will make comments to me. I told one of my uncles the next day no one spoke to me again. Our black women lost that.

My wife was raised in Jehovah witness I was raised as Catholic and this August 2024 we have been married 30 years and growing stronger we both don’t go to either establishments for over our 32 years together we dated for 2 years and got married in 1994.

I usually agree with Dr Umar but brotha as a father of 2 girls. You are essentially saying our black women should have low standards for who they choose as a spouse. Also, being married for 15 years and a man of faith Ive learned that being equally yoked or of the same mindset is very important.

I live in Prince George's County Maryland, and there are two Mega churches within 15 - 20 minutes from one another. You can enroll your children in their Christian school if you are in good standing for $13,000 plus dollars. They are having buildings constructed one after the other.

How can we have more churches than liquor stores in our communities and the plight of the people and the community has not gotten better in decades??? I was raised in the black church but was what they called the rebellious child. I was the one that needed extra prayers. Not because I was a troubled kid. But because I always questioned everything. I questioned why poor people always had to give money on Sundays when they couldn’t take care of their families. I questioned why was it that the pastor lived in fancy houses and drive fancy cars but we walked to and from church while hungry and in hand me downs. I questioned why the young people were not encouraged to get educated. Instead, they were encouraged to use their skills to pour into the churches. I always questioned why did we have to be in church for long hours in church and multiple days a week and not get paid. I always questioned why did they match young couples who weren’t educated and encouraged them to have multiple kids and tell them the lord will provide when in reality they couldn’t even afford having those kids. Couldn’t even feed them or send them to school to be educated. Yes, I was that kid and for this reason I couldn’t be coerced into doing what the masses did. Yes, I was that kid and still am that adult today.

That being said, listening to advice for "Black churches" from anyone that is anti-Christian is foolish. All churches have problems because all of them have people.

He's right on this one! I witnessed the "black church" try to break up my parents who had been married my whole life. My dad was a people pleaser, very easygoing, and even he could see through that BS. When I got married, the same "Black Church" told my parents they liked my already married previous boyfriend better than my husband. SMH

Even though the church helps the community, it relies and profits from it which should not be happening. A pastor should be able to ball like anyone else, it just shouldn’t be because of his congregation. His philosophy on polygamy is ridiculous. He talks about pleasure contracts and talks about needing multiple women. Isn’t the Vesica Pisces about 1 man and 1 woman becoming one?It’s too worldly. Him saying reparations needs to wait to pay out is more toxicity as that has always and still is the problem. No one will be able to truly build enough generational wealth so that they can prepare a new generation without it.

Personally, I became non religious over a decade ago. Sadly, once I realized this, I began to realize that I had to open my dating pool to women outside of my community. In reality, dating women from all races was liberating. Now, I understand society from a broader perspective.

Black women should not rush into marriage, sex or any relationships especially now. There's alot of vultures in the community😢 be very careful. Pay attention to the times and seasons.
