UPDATE: The free plan for Microsoft's Clipchamp now supports exporting videos with a resolution of 1080p. Check out this video for my favorite free video editing software for PC: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iB8PK2POssE.html I personally use DaVinci Resolve to edit my videos, which is also free. You can find out how to get started with DaVinci Resolve here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UguJiz9AYM8.html (the learning curve is much steeper than this, but you have much more control).
Don't forget Windows 11 still has the free Video editor hidden in the Photos app. Seems like people in the comments don't know about it. Are there other video editors that have 3D effects that can attach follow objects in the video?
I hated this software for no reason. It is super easy to use, I made my first video just now! Thank you so much! I just needed to know how to move clips around for editing.
Yeah, 480p is a non-starter. I'm expecting Microsoft to change that soon unless they want massive negative press for an app included with Windows. MS acquired Clipchamp in September 2021, so I'm guessing they're still working out the plan details. I would expect the plans to be better. With better plans in place, I can recommend this video editor since it's so easy to use.
Good introduction. But Clipchamps many option makes it too defficult for beginners, who loved the good old Movie Maker. And we need "how to do it" in Danish, - and many other languges.
I think it is time for companies (Microsoft, Adobe.etc..) to adapt to financial situations going on with inflation. No one can afford a lot of these service subscriptions! I would rather pay a huge price once but own the complete program. I hope this doesn't replace Video Editor....however, I am on Windows 10 still anyway...I can't afford a new computer either. But great tutorial Kevin!
Kevin, this is a great info video!!! Love how you explain the process and your examples are super easy to follow. Thank you for making this, I was able to edit a video I made in about 15 mins. This program is awesome for non-experts such as myself. Will be checking out more of your videos. 👍
If Microsoft were to give this away, it would help stop them losing customers to Apple which includes iMovie. A few changes to Notepad in Windows is not enough these days. Maybe just charge for the 4k video version. It would be a great selling feature for Microsoft Windows
I believe they do give it away for free - I got it when I upgraded to Win11. At least I think, I'm currently on my Linux but I remember seeing it. I'll check next time I'm on Windows.
There seems to be no compelling reason to use this product at this time. The free version is too limited and the subscription versions are too expensive. There are totally free editors, both beginner friendly and more advanced systems, that simply make this editor unattractive for most folks.
@product yep, even beginners would want a bit more than 480p, after all, 2011 is long gone. You got any free online video editors? May come in handy while doing light editing?
@@KevinStratvert I was very inspired after this tutorial and thougt that I would start using Clipchamp from now on. However the free version could only seperate audio från video on 2/3 of my clips. It says that the audio has been separared from the video but I cannot see the audio on the timeline. So Climpchamp is nothing I will use as it semes
Hmm... you lost me with the upgrade prices. Or Microsoft did. Small chance I'm paying $10 a month for a crippled-down editor when there are so many free ones out there. DaVinci Resolve has been a great choice. Once you teach yourself to ignore all the zillions of bells and whistles Resolve has, it's pretty simple. (I won't ever live to understand Fusion.) But really, Microsoft? Does anyone export in 480P? Or want to? Why not just an audio watermark that plays continuous loops of Microsoft's phone support music on hold?
No way to pay for Clipchamp. There are so much better free videoeditors such as Shotcut, Da Vinci Resolve etc. I use Shotcut in making all videos on my channel without limitation HD, 4K ...
This is awesome! I've been using Adobe Rush and Filmora...but I think I'll switch to this for a moment, especially with the text to speech feature. I love it. One suggestion Microsoft...could you add some ethnic or urban voices? Or a feature to record your own voice (similar to what Descript offers). Maybe that could be apart of your Premium features.
I really appreciate the amount of time and effort you took to create such a wonderful content with so much details. Honestly this is exactly what i was looking for and thankfully your video was the first that i ever watched anything about clipchamp. Hope someday i will also be able to create youtube contents like you.
Hi Kevin, my videos are pretty basic so I've just been using my free Windows Video Editor. But my latest video is 35 minutes long and I've been trying for 3 days to export it but the editor freezes every time. I've never had this problem with the editor, but I'm thinking the video might just be too long for it to handle? I've tried everything to fix it and nothing works. So my question is, do you think this Clipchamp editor can handle a video that long? If not, what free software can that you'd recommend? Thanks so much for you time and channel, it's awesome! AC
Great tutorial in 15 mins!! I'm just starting with video editing and started with ClipChamp as its included with Windows 11. Your tutorial shows all the interesting things that Clipchamp has to offer!
Text to Speech, Adding Text and Screen recorder is a really a cool feature. I loved it. This is not so complex compare to Davincy and Adobe. But they could have added something like fusion effects
I started using the base Video Editor solely because of your video on how to add music to RU-vid with a photo. Despite how simplistic it is, I used it to make some pretty thorough video essays. Unfortunately one of those which I uploaded June 1st got my channel "permanently terminated" by RU-vid. They reinstated it a month later after an in-depth review. Anyway. the Photos App Video Editor is effective especially when you just want to focus on content and not technical elements of editing. But I came back to see your explanation of Clip Champ and whether I should upgrade. :)
This was very helpful. Clipchamp automatically showed up on my Windows 10 a couple months ago. I had been using the Video Editor previously for my RU-vid content and found ClipChamp not to be as intuitive to use as VE. Thanks for making it seem much easier. I'll definitely give it a second chance.
its been on my computer for a while and i really needed a video editer and today i decided to try it out and i loved it but i needed a better understanding of how to use it so i came to this video
Whats the difference now between signing to Clipchamp online (which can also be installed to desktop) and from Microsoft Insider or 365 ? You cant upload videos using free account cause they will have watermark.
Bro the fact that I found Clipchamp a long time ago like 1 year ago or 7 months ago and seeing the Editor I use right now being famous, it brings a smile on my face.
Wow! Thanks for bringing this to my attention , I didn’t even know it was available?! 480 yikes! I would totally use this if they would let us use 4K! Thanks Kevin, always learning from you! 👏🏼
I've turned a 70 minute recording into a 10 minute recording but my screen will freeze when I try exporting it. This only happens when I try exporting anything over like 15 minutes. Even if I choose 480p, it will freeze. Is there anything I could do to fix this? I've managed to export a 13 minute recording before, so why can't I export a 10 minute recording?
If I add a title to my video, how do I make it so that the title is always displaying on the video while the video is being played? Right now, the title disappears after the first few seconds of the video. Thanks.
The text to speech is interesting. How many people have a really good voice? It's wild, to me, that this tech is just out there, for free. Maybe I could use this to make a narration and then move that to Shotcut? Can't imagine using 480. I suppose you could make it seem like you had a room full of people commenting on your product, different voices. "What do you think Trevor?" Good English name.
Hey, Kevin, ' I finally got around to using Clipchamp to make a video, and it was not that hard to use, mainly because I'd already watched your video .... lol ... But I do have one question: If I want to mute just a small section of the audio on my main video source, do I still have to split that part out, or is there a way to mute only that section directly on the timeline?
Kevin I've been watching your videos on Excel and now the video editor but I do have one question on the video editor is it possible to go frame by frame on a video I look at traffic accidents from surveillance cameras and things like that I'm trying to find one that I can like hit the right arrow or the left arrow and go move just one frame I saw when you had it it went five but what does the right arrow and left arrow just move one frame❤
Great video Kevin, made a few youtube videos - simple to use and fairly easy to follow. One thing I have noticed, the last video i created doesn't have the "thumbnail" I have on the others on the home screen where you choose what you want to edit - just the name of the file in and empty - rest all have a preview. Have I inadvertently toggled a setting off? If anyone has any ideas Id appreciate a heads up.
Does anybody know how to speed up a photo, I put in a couple photos and they appear 5 seconds each. I would like them to only appear for 2 seconds each. I’m not sure how to please let me know. Thanks
Thank you so much! I saw your video about "video editor" for windows 10 and tried to type it in the search bar on my windows 11 but nothing came up. So i fine tuned my search and came across this video! Thank you so much sir! ☺ I hope you have a stupendous day!!!
Hi Kevin, Thank you for your Tutorial Videos. You help me understand how Shortcut works. Now you helped me understand how Clipchamp works. I have Microsoft window10 and Clipchamp works. I still have to check your video when using Clipchamp. Have a great day. Nick
I really love this recommendation, I start to used this week and is very easy and intuitive, perfect for beginners. And now you can download in better quality and without watermark 🤓😱😱😱.
So I can either have 1080p with less core features or 480p with more core features. Sounds like six-of-one, half-dozen of another to me. I don't see this taking off in any meaningful way given the plethora of better free editors out there. Hell, I use Blender's video editor and it still rocks better than this.
Fantastically explained Kevin. You helped me decide to not use it at first and then saw on your comment that they allow 1080 so will give it a go. Thank you 🙏🏽
Used Clipchamp for the first time ... only little feature that trumps the previous Windows Video Editor .. hopefully as you said, more premium features will be made available later .. at this stage .. I gotta say .. very limited especially when I the previous Video Editor was taken off 🙄🙄
Thanks Kevin. You helped me out a lot! I have an Office 365 subscription and it took your video for me to realize I already own a premium version of Clipchamp.
Yet, another subscription model. Seems to be the big trend these days. Hope it’s true that Microsoft will make the free version of this app worth the download in the near future. By the way, I believe the free version exports 480p video with a watermark.
big note that you just gotta know about clipchamp, is that it can only compress videos up to 30 frames per second, which is extremely low. So lets say you just want to trim a video with this software, you trim it, you save it, now if your recording was made at 144 fps, congratulations, now its 30, and it looks like crap :D so if you want to keep your videos silky smooth, don't let this software come anywhere near your videos.
Thanks for the info, I'm new on RU-vid & I just used it for the Thanksgiving very 1st time. I don't know much about editing yet but thanks for your video. I'm watching it over & over to be good for the next uploading video 📹.
Just now,I tried to edit video with clipchamp. Trimming is not much good and easy as Video Editor which was provided Window 10.I am not very satisfied with that clipchamp.
If your voice over has a British accent, then you're actually selling biscuits!!! I'm going to try this editing tool during some down time over the Holidays. Thanks for doing this.
"opinion" It matters how much your going to use it. I got the premium since I use a lot of the stock music they have & I want the best export quality. But I do wish it had more content. Last thing I want to worry about is any vids being flagged. enjoy
I started making reels with clipchamp as it's an user friendly app. I realised that you can't pick specific seconds from the music that is installed in the app or i'm missing something. Anybody knows? As far as i know you can only trim music and sound effects. Should i start using davinci resolve? Does davinci have all that stuff that makes it easy and fast to use? Thanks in advance!
I'm so excited, I solely used the previous Windows Movie Maker/Photos to edit my videos so this is definitely an upgrade but my only complaint is that I can only seem to move backward and forward 5 seconds which is way too long of a time when I'm trying to cut out pauses and ums, etc. In Movie Maker I could press the back and forward arrows and it would move it 00.03 seconds forward or back. Does any one know if there is a way to do that in ClipChamp?
OMG, I've come to your channel in a desperate attempt to figure out how to use Clipchamp. I was using Video Editor the whole time because it's so simple and perfect for what I've been doing. I think Video Editor became obsolete so its going to be a sharp learning curve for me.
I enjoy the Clip Champ app. It's my first time using it. I did a few drafts but it's still a work in progress. lol lol. I would like to find out. How do you match the audio voice over with the text on each slide in proper sequence? In other words how to synchronize the voice audio and the text on the video ? Is there a practical or easier way to do it on the app ? I would like to get some guidance on it please. Thanks.
Windows always used to have a free video editor. Windows Vista and XP had editors and Windows 7 was the first operating system not to have a video editor. Hearing that window is 11:00 has a video editor it makes me happy to hear that but it also is sad to hear because I haven't heard much good about the windows 11 operating system
When I use the Countdown Timer, it appears that the milliseconds are improperly used. 7ms is displayed as "07" here, 42ms as "42" but 999ms as "99" instead of "999" Clipchamp needs to fix this so that one of the following happens: making it three digits so that leading zeros are padded, displaying 42ms as "042" - or making it 1/100 seconds, displaying 42ms as "04" instead of "42"
I just downloaded this and it started out at 480 export, but when I linked my google account, it upgraded me to 1080 export while still on the free account. which is all I need :D thanks for the vid!!! liked and subbed.
