If you’re watching this video, it’s my prayer that you improve in your video editing and excel in your RU-vid journey and grow in all areas. Best of wishes.
The moment I saw ClipChamp being available through the browser, I had my suspicions. And so I installed it from the MS Store (was just a few MB of webview code, so my suspicions were now validated) and imported a 1GB video file to "quickly" start editing. And behold, it takes an hour or so before I can continue (because it needs to upload the 1GB file before you can continue working on it). ClipChamp is a FULLY CLOUD BASED solution. If you want to edit a LOT, this is NOT your solution. Go for the others.
Thanks for the comment, I was about to try ClipChamp but decided to go with CapCut after seeing your comment. A fully cloud based only video editing service is truly only something Microsoft could come up with 🤦♂
Another thing about clip champ is that it's not a very well known software which means you need to solve all your own problems. Image rotation is limited to 90 degrees and It has a lot of audio issues after you export. In the editor the audio sounds good but after you export it drifts off. Would only recommend for a Simple edits shorter than 4 minutes
I have been a powerdirector user for years. Switched to Clipchamp, following Kev's prior video, and so far is working. I just make short clips to share with kids and friends. Thank you Kevin, excellent as usual
Why such people and software creators continue to fool us with the fancy word FREE when are only offering limited features? Why don't they say TRIAL version as before?
You just saved me MONEY!! I was about to use a "paid" service for a training that I am doing for work and stumbled upon this video and .... FREE video editing!! I'm going with DR for now but will be exploring the other two for future projects. Having used Final Cut pro and AVID, I'm not a beginner but I don't seek to find the most complex system to use in making simple video projects. Thanks again Kevin!
Hi Kevin. What can I say . Your videos are truly amazing and priceless. I'm new to video editing and not a techno person. I need to start learning how to put short clips of my kids who play football (soccer as you lot across the pond call it) and make videos look really cool with slow motions, music, texts etc. I'll try the Clipchamp unless you have other advise. People like you make our lives so much easier with those extremely helpful advise. Please don't ever stop. Cheers
I used clipchamp for quite a bit but i recommend capcut it's so much faster + has everything and more what clipchamp has except templetes + offline so u can edit anytime
I’m currently using ShotCut after you recommended it and I’m loving it. It puts a heavy load on my seven year old pc and stutters badly during the editing process, but gives me a great video in the end. I’m not sure if I’m ready for devinci yet so I’m leaning towards the first two. And I really like the screen recording option. Thank you for the advice.👍🏼😎
For me, Da Vinci Resolve is too damned complicated. 95% of its capabilitie will be totally irrelevant to most users especially if you are used to more user friendly softwaare such as PowerDirector. On top of that, if you have a decent graphics card, the Free Resolve version wont allow you to access the hardware acceleration options that are much needed for this type of software.
I just experienced the same thing. It looks complicated, but you can jump into that.. As you said the problem is that it avoids graphic card, and that's big disadvantage, esp. if you have a good one. I also tried Clipchamp, but that's even worse...my CPU is about to blow up. Did you find something usable??
I was certainly contemplating between DaVinci Resolve and CapCut but I went with the latter because of the much more lenient PC requirements since mine is pretty low-end. But to be honest, DaVinci Resolve interface and user-friendliness is personally the best for me. (I tried OpenShot and ShotCut too and they are both powerful, but CapCut and DR for me get my top votes.) Not sure about the rest of you but it could be just down to personal preferences and familiarity of use. Cheers ❤
I guess it's really just personal preference. Perhaps the interface and the flow as well. But DR is a bit heavy on the PC resources though. CapCut on the other hand is really fast and low on resources.
Very helpful video. I'd say #2 and #3 are excellent recommendations, apps designed for different skill levels and PC processing powers. But Clipchamp? Horrible. Some text options are frustratingly limited. You're dependent on Internet access, which can make fine editing imprecise, especially as your timeline gets longer and more complicated. Some free features have become premium features, so you can't assume something you use today will be available free tomorrow. Plus, the premium upgrade is crazy expensive. There's a reason it's only rated 2.8 stars on the Microsoft Store LOL! Clipchamp is Microsoft finding ways to make money, not finding ways to provide good software.
My eyes were captivated by your Chanel post ‼ We thank you for taking the time to impart your knowledge and experience to us and for expanding our collection of software available libraries with a new Secret: the best free video editing software.❗
I never really edit my videos recently because they are mostly clips but I need a video editor to but clips together and I need to export at atleast 4k I will try cap cut
Been using DaVinci Resolve for a while as I use an ATEM ISO Extreme to record inputs from cameras as well as different soundtracks. BlackMagicDesign make GREAT products. luv em!
I will use ClipChamp. Q: How to add ‘click here’ link in upper right that navigates to related video? (Or do you define this functionality when you upload to RU-vid??) Thank you.
Hi @KevinStratvert, thank you for this amazing video, I'm very impressed with CapCut it has features that I did not find in the video's editor that I use, Invideo, and also I have been using Canva to edit videos but is a very hard, now I think that you show me a solution of my problems. I just start to make videos to RU-vid this month, but I'm an advertising professional since 1979, I just did not have work in Digital before.
Hello Kevin, I started using Shotcut based on one of your previous videos and I'm still learning how to use it. What are your thoughts between Shotcut and Clipchamp? Should I stop using Shotcut and make the switch?
Thanks Kevin. I was tired of the limited (but expensive) Adobe premiere elements. For example, adding closed caption is not possible in my version. Clipchamp seems like a good alternative
i know im late on the reply but the fact premiere doesnt have half the bells and whistles resolve does really says something. why do i need to install 5 different programs to get what resolve does off 1 install
The main thing I dislike is the watermark at the end. I've spent some time dabbling until I create something I really like...until I convert the video and find out there's an unremovable watermark unless I pay the premium membership. Went through this with several programs that at some point were also "free" at some point until my wife got the adobe membership (for work) and now I can use Premier Pro. It is an absolute powerhouse of a program but it comes with an incredibly sharp learning curve. Really dislike the UI though.
Check out 8:31... in CapCut, click into a video clip, go to properties, then cutout, and auto cutout. That'll automatically remove the background. You can then place a static image or video clip under the clip with the cutout background on the timeline.
DaVinci Resolve has one drawback for those with bad eyes... there is only a 'dark mode.' Some people (myself included) can't use dark mode because it physically hurts to look at it. I spoke to the developer about it, but they have no plans to provide a light mode. So I use Shotcut.
Thanks for all these videos. I discovered ClipChamp and CapCut because of you. I started editing by using Microsoft's Video Editor bundled with Windows 10 and now I've started using the other two.
Hi Kevin Stratvert, Thanks for your videos it is really helpful. I tried the Clipchamp because I find it easy to use but then the video quality is reduced to 1080 only. It cannot support the 4k video, and when I uploaded it the resolution was really bad. I am trying the free software at the moment coz I am still new to uploading videos on RU-vid and I don't want to spend a lot of money on apps or software that I am not familiar with or won't use it in the future. I hope you can help me on how to upload a 4k video.
Hi Kevin, would you be so kind as to make a video on creating Pivot using the Data Model and how I can group certain criteria for example: doing an Age Analysis of all items that fall in the Age Category of say 0-30 days, 31 to 60 days, etc. I have been using the Group Function in PIVOT, but as soon as I create the Pivot and Add it to the Data Model, I cannot group anymore. So a Video on how to do this using the Data Model would be great, unless you already have done such a video in your huge library of videos?
Great quick overview. I like birding and want to get more into videoing short clips of bird behaviour (say 10 second clips or 5 to 10 mins of footage and and cut usable clips out of that) so I will need to denoise low light high iso, low res, stabilise shaky shots and need slow-mo at 4k 120p/240p. I am aware of Topaz but its pricey for a retired amateur. I'm a Macbook Pro (M1 chip). Does the answer lay within DaVinci?
Hi Kevin, I have found very interesting this video and I would like to know more about DaVinci Resolve. If I am going to learnt how to edit a video, I want to study the best one. Thank you Kevin for all of your help.
Check out the following intro video on DaVinci Resolve: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EEksPdEc7aI.html Casey Faris has an amazing RU-vid channel with hundreds of tutorials.
Hi Kevin I have been using DaVinci resolve and just upgraded to version 18.5 (pc) What has happened now is a disaster that i am hoping you can help with. Now when i import a media file and place it in my timeline all i get is blue in the timeline. No video or sound and the play button doesnt appear to work. Do you by chance have any suggestions please? I hope you can help. The free version has worked well in the past. Cheers Christine
Hello Kevin! I was curious if you knew of any solutions to this problem im having. I have a recording of an interview that is 2 hours long. However, Im looking for a way to be able to go through and pull out multiple clips from this interview and be to be able to save them all individually and as one episode. So for instance, I'd like to make 10, 30 second clips from this 2 hour long video, but dont want to have to go through the video 10 times to do so. Is there a work around for this? Am i even able to do that? Am i just dumb? lol! Please help...
Hello Kevin and thanks for your wonderful videos. Can you add a video on how to add and use chapters in MP4 files? Any special software you recommend (free or paid for) Thank you
Thank you so much for this. It helped more than you know. I've already spent a ton of money on video creators and editors, and most of them are worthless. I can't afford anymore, so this helps. Again, thank you.
Kevin, can you give any suggestion how to make Windows fonts and icons larger in 100% scaling for 1080p or 4k? Because when I use 125% scaling it makes the fonts blurry Please consider my request.
This exactly what I've been looking for. I'd never heard of the first two. Devince I've only recently heard about when asking a friend how they made their videos. Time to take the plunge!
Clipchamp is only on Windows 11? Drats! I only have Windows 10. The reviews that I've watched on Windows 11 have stated, more often than not, to NOT download W 11. What do you think? Or, is my ancient (eight-year-old Windows PC just too old to handle Windows 11?) Alien desktop that might be too old? I desperately need a easy-to-use, cheap (i.e. FREE!) video-editing program. Clipchamp sounds like what I'm looking for.
I'm Canadian working on a Short-Film 8 to 12 minutes & I need a video editing tool with no watermarks. I'm not sure what I'll use but I need something flashy for the 30 sec intro before the title an' with transitions and credits (some captions required). It will air on the big screen at ImagiNATIVE 2025 & is based on the residential school system. 🎥If this does not satisfy me, a Toronto video editor has said she'll do it for 2000$.
