@OrganicShadow For sure - right now, he's dominating on the offensive end - but he doesn't bring the same energy and good positioning on the defensive end. He's better than last year, probably due to his slimmer physique, and it'll just take time to move ahead of all the great forwards in the West....
@rudedog2009 I agree - he can only get them so far. Problem is, people will be saying they're short a player or two, but I just don't see their defense ever getting good enough, nor their offensive decision making
@am88ification That's a good argument why Vinny is an okay coach. Let's see how they do after this 6 game road stretch, and then we'll see just how good they are. I THINK the schedule has been favorable to them so far.
@upabittoolate There are some fundamental issues here - running sideline pick and rolls at crucial times, not having Blake in when the Timberwolves took over the game... just scratching my head, man!
i love it. great stuff coach. i wish to hear more from you about individuals. talking about potential and fundamentals of the new guys should be very interesting with your basketball mind and knowledge. watching a lot of derrick williams this year, with the way he finishes and shoot, i would say he should be a star in this league eventually. he does things with poise and unreal athleticism.
@mattroom I really recommend you read the article if you haven't yet... I just found this again after reading it a year and a half ago and it still gave me the same feeling I had reading it the first time.
@starkk19 Wolves fan here. I agree totally. He's really emerged in the last few weeks. I can't remember what team they were against, but in the fourth quarter he just got ridiculously hot; shot 8/8 (or 7/8), cranking up off-balance 3s. He's just a rookie though, with way less experience than Rubio, but this little run he's been having is really promising and is showing why he was the #2 pick in the draft. Has a great mind, too.

I know the article, love Battier, you could see on one of the Kobe pull ups that before Kobe releases it, he's already upset for letting him dribble once to his right and pulling up - pure death for defenders. Big 2, Big 3 was interesting, but not enlightening..
@bballbreakdown I really like how you broke down Griffin a little bit, but I would like for you to go into further detail. Like how he sometimes demands the ball in situations where he shouldn't and other times he just looks completely lost because he's still new to the league.
great bdown coach. as a scorer, Ricky is obviously not as talented as many of the younger, quick PGs in the league, but as a playmaker however, I would say he's possibly in the top 3 or 4 already. he's simply consistently making plays that very few NBA PGs can make, and in some cases, maybe none others. I'd love to see a breakdown of Ricky showing the reads he makes off the PnR, showing his bball IQ.
Coach Nick & I have argued on a few occassions but he's exactly right here. Vinny Del Negro isn't using his players to their best efficiency. And as talented as Paul is, you can't afford to not use him.
Well Coach, I have to agree with you about the offense. They have one of the most efficient offenses in the league, but it is not because of VDN. The offensive system is very unimaginative and rote. The reason for their great offensive rating is because they have great shooters who will knock-down threes with ease and Chris Paul running the show. Because of Paul, the Clippers are somewhere around the top 2 in turnovers, which leads to more possessions.

A single double is when you have single digit numbers in two fields like a point and an assist i.e 8 pts 5 assists. A double double is 12 pts 14 rebounds and an example of a triple double is 17 pts 12 rebounds 10 assists
At 2:18 you said Ridnour had to rotate or else it would've been illegal D. Illegal D was eliminated years ago. Ridnour could've chosen to keep the double team on Griffin as long as he wanted even though Griffin didn't have the ball, as long as Ridnour didn't commit a defensive 3 seconds penalty.
Thanks for the videos. Can you break down Mike Brown's offense? Every time the Lakers lose a game, all I hear is him talking about how their defense lacked energy... even if they only score 80 points.
When you pay attention to the system of the Clippers, you should soon discover that there isn't any XD neither both offense and defense. They're doing OK in the Pacific division because of the talent of CP3 and Blake. In my opinion, they are very likely to finish off at the 1st round of playoff... if they're gonna make it.
@indohan This channel is about fundamentals, showing you what players are and aren't doing, from a coach's perspective. If Chris Paul was too slow getting to a spot, then he was too slow. Blake is an awful FT shooter, and if he listened to my suggestions, he would improve. Nothing rubbish about it.
@jeffreychanysupload they are not - a lot has to do with experience, they haven't quite found the right lineups to play together yet (which may change the second half of the season, but...) but their future is very bright...
@bballbreakdown With Griffin's & Paul's ability to spread the floor with their range, I'm surprised they don't use more slip screens to get cheap baskets. As for leaving Griffin out when the Wolves are surging, there's no excuse for that. I see Why Paxson & Del Negro fought a lot. If the Clippers were coached properly, they'd be a machine.

Hey coach, how was the Sloan Conference? I've been reading up on it and the papers I've read so far are really interesting, esp. the one titled "You, Me, Synergy, The Big 2 and The Big 3". And just to make sure, have you read the piece by the New York Times two years ago about the "No-Stats All Star" Shane Battier? If not the title is "The No-Stats All-Star" on the NY Times website.
Having Vinny as your coach basically guarantees that your team won't be good enough to win a championship. Thank god the Bulls now have Tom Thibodeau and not this guy.
What did you mean by single double at 6:01 ? Is that part of the play or just a term for a type of screening in the playbooks... Trying to understand basketball offense better so that is why I ask..
@am88ification He didn't say they were bad, he said their offense is bad. A lot of teams are struggling with offense right now. Lakers and OKC would be two of them.
i don't get this coach, is derrick williams a better iso player? because when he is "isoing" he can go back to the derrick williams at Arizona, but when he is catch and shooting, he is not that great, why?
@am88ification In my opinion, they are doing well because they have extremely athletic players. Look at what happened to the Bulls when Vinny Del Negro was there. Even though I like the Clippers, I don't think they will pass the first or second round in the playoff.
Kinda splitting hairs here don't you think? Besides the names, he gives a pretty effective analysis. He mixes up names from here to here, but nobody said he's coaching the clippers.
