+Poncho likes bacon It's perfect! the machining is beautiful. The commentary is informative. The editing is superb. I watch soo many machining channels but chris offers THE best viewing angles. I dont think I could love this channel any more.
+Joel Crawford I'm so pleased you're enjoying it Joel, I have to admit to being kind of emotional myself! I can tell you this clock is protected better than POTUS - I can't begin to tell you how careful I have become while handling this clock!
Everything is so perfect it looks simply unreal. It's like some computer animation of clockwork for a high-budget steampunk anime. And you made it with your own hands. Wow!
Chris, I decided to comment only on the last vid in the series, as not to repeat myself umpteen times. And, although I am not given to randomly used superlatives... there is but one word in its place here. WOW ! Truly amazing work!!
People with no machining experience or interest in machining take one look at this channel and are mesmerized! I'm so happy for you getting this close to the end!
There are few series where - without fail - if I see an episode in my inbox, I will drop whatever I'm doing and watch. This is one of them. I've used a lathe on only one occasion (at school about 20 years ago), and I have no knowledge of clocks at all (or at least I didn't before I started watching these), but I appreciate the quality of the craftsmanship here - in both the metalwork and video-making departments. Keep up the fine work, Chris!
Geez, I can't get over how gorgeous this clock is, and the moment you get to see everything working together after months of watching is purely satisfying.
I work as a machinist for 16 years now, altho much MUCH bigger pieces from 400mm - nearly 2meter, just got home from work and just watching this is pure relaxation for me looking forward to the finished project, and future projects! :)
Man, seeing everything fit together and watching the hands spin for the first time brought the biggest smile to my face. Watching the whole process over the months and seeing it be so close to being finished makes me both giddy with glee like a five year old and a tad bit sad, knowing that it will soon be finished. Keep up the fantastic work Chris!
Chris, when you finaly finish this beautiful piece of horologie, please stick all these videos together and make one 2-3 hours documentary. It will be one of a kind. I would buy Blu-ray disc with such a movie! Not to mention it will be better than 99% of documentaries on TV. You have great talent not only in machining but in film industry also. Thank you for all happy moments I had with your videos!
such a nice video, I'll never have the patience to make a clock, nor do I have much interest in clocks. These videos are just so satisfying to anyone who appreciates shop tools and metal work
I have been a machinist for around 10. your are a great craftsman. love ur videos my favorite bit is u make most ur own tools and ur problem solving due to working in a limited shop. good job I look forward to ur next video
Very pleased that you went for 5 spokes when crossing out the wheels... I'm all for prime numbers in wheel crossing... 3, 5, 7, 11... somehow much more aesthetic than even numbers. Nice video, up to your established professional standards.
I couldn't comment in all part of the project but this complicated hand work explains why the mechanic clock is expensive but i enjoyed every minute Thank you for sharing and these vides what makes youtube so much educating and fun
Beautiful clock. Just my sort of thing, nothing fancy and you can see all the working bits........one of the best series on youtube, your work is stunning Chris, I always get excited seeing a new episode and rewatch the others just because...... There's never too much or too little information, just the right balance. Great camera work and lighting plus it's never boring to watch......unmissable
Off the charts Great ER tip. The clock looks great. Never ever apologize for a long video. I would watch a full length movie if there was one! Great job Chris! Incredible work!
You are the only person with an Australian accent that I can listen to. My girl friend is from new Zealand and I'm used to hers, Australian just sounds weird and I end up focusing on nothing else. But with you. Your work speaks way louder.
Finally another video!! Feel free to make it an hour! I could watch this all day long! So amazing, you do such a great job, not only in your craftsmanship but also on cinematography!
+Cesotoseot Still 5 more episodes before its off to college - Escapement, pendulum, stop work, winding key and another design modification that I'm building up the courage to attempt :)
The most professional video on u tube.Just the wright amount of commentary.Ive watched some engineering vids from America some are piss boring they just babble on and on.Oh and what a beautiful workshop.
yo chris.... i need more of your videos.... they are truly inspiring.... you are an amazing craftsman and very professional... i have watched every one of your videos multiple times and i will continue watching them. please do another project........
If this is amateur work then I'd like to see professional clock-making. Your skills and knowledge with your tools is very impressive, excellent work man and your videos are all top shelf, bravo
As always a great video. We were waiting for weeks, every day asking ourselves: today Clickspring wil appear?. It is a pleasure watching you, all the stress of the day disappears. Returns one to believe in man as a creative being. Thank you very much
61 dislikes??? People don't appreciate good craftsmanship and hard work anymore! Yeah he can't just blink his eyes and spit these out. Yeah it's not a CNC cutting this out. Good Old Quality craftsmanship with skill! Great job!
I have to say as a machinist by training and by hobby, your craftsmanship and attention to detail is most admirable. This is the quality of product that I strive for as a machinist. What's more the videography and time spent on the videos shows how much you love what you're doing. I sincerely thank you for sharing your precious time and talents with the rest of us.
I have never seen a video which emphasises the need of good quality, well kept, sharp hand files... One of the most under appreciated tools in anyone's inventory
Every new video is like, ok, lay back and get your dose of know-how. ...to the point I somehow cannot wait to ear the damn spring clicking! Congratulations Chris. You do amaze internet, big time.
I got shivers seeing the hands come out and the final wheel crossings. When the clockwork started coming together, it actually literally took my breath away. This is genuine craftsmanship. Watching you work is a thing of beauty.
This is just amazing, I just love your attention to detail. It is inspiring in a world of disposable rubbish to see someone working to such a high level.
Great craftsmanship shows in the quality of the work and of the videos. Thorough job getting all the right camera shots. Clock making is such a timeless craft. (and that is a loaded statement)These videos restore a small piece of my faith in the world.
Hi Chris, thanks for another installment of your exquisite craftsmanship as you construct this clock which truly is a piece of art. Thanks for your gift mate!
The project looks more like a clock now, which brings me the fear that it comes close to an end, I don't want this to end. Keep that beautiful work going.
I'm liking the long form videos. Your clock looks to be coming together amazingly as well. Thank you for sharing your process with all of us. I know I at least have been finding all of this very interesting and quite entertaining. Keep up the good work and thanks again! :-)
@MacroMachines Haters are probably people who don't have any skills, or anything better to do. These videos are amazing with the level of craftsmanship he displays. I'd imagine that doing the work is almost therapeutic for him. Making something from scratch can have that effect.
At the moment I'm looking at this, its 54 downvotes, vs 11K upvotes, so.... fraction of a percent downvoted it. Yeah, there's always a tiny fringe who hate whatever particular thing exists I guess, but they're insignificant.
I have no idea why I watch these videos. I've never done any work with metal, don't own any clocks that aren't sitting in the top-right of a computer screen, and own only a handful of decent tools. But, man, I can't stop watching. Beautiful videos covering an amazing process. Keep posting for forever, please.
Awesome work, Chris! I'm in the early stages of making my version of this clock and your videos are both inspiring and terrifying! With each new video you reveal additional operations that I've never attempted (or even heard of). I hope clocks are still in vogue if/when I finish mine.
i love how every thing you do is so clean and there's no oil or grease on your benches. what are you going to to once the clock is made and i think your clock is running a bit fast :)
when someone describes something as absolutely premium I use your videos and work as a baseline for it. because your work is incredibly premium. fantastic work.
Haha, I saw the tool marks left on the minute pilot and only began to say to myself, "oh, he's not gonna let those stay there" when you transitioned to some file finishing... As always, such amazing and beautiful work! Simply the best "amateur" content producer on RU-vid! -EngineerGunter
This entire serial on making your own clock is probably the best made YT video on building something. Nice and precise builds, good narrating, good editing... Great! Keep building, and thanks for sharing.
Yet again Chris you have produced another video of superb quality and production values. No wonder it has received 120 K views in one week. On the face of it who would have thought that videos on the making of a traditional clock with exposed workings would draw [a] be of interest to anyone and [b] attract so many views so quickly, [c] your subscriber to views ratio is incredible and/or you are drawing in a lot of casual viewers as well. As an aside, I have experienced something like this before when I briefly worked in a hardware store and instead of playing a loop tape of the TV adverts, I put on a video about wood turning on a lathe. It was interesting to watch people just gather round to watch the video on a somewhat specialized topic.
Chris, the craftsmanship in your clock and the quality of your videos is jaw-dropping. An extraordinary achievement and a great gift to everyone. Well done and thank you.
