Y'know, you wouldn't have to adjust the sleeve if you made the adjustments to the actual spindle itself... At least, I _think_ that'd work... Speaking as someone who's never done machining work or used a lathe before, so, I could be completely fucking wrong: please let me know if I am. I know it'd annoy me if I had a lathe and the base spindle wasn't perfectly centered or whatever...
I found this when searching for how the first chariot wheels and axles might have been made. I want to see how one might have provided suspension for a chariot with wood, canes, sinew, or hide. Subbed for more "hammer makes the tongs which forge the hammer" content thanks
Arrrrr Chris, what an amazing person and intelligent man you are. I thoroughly enjoy watching all of your videos, your explanations and demonstrations gthey are first class, from how to make basic tools to create more complex tools and components, then adding your fastidious and delicate attention to details and finish, just awe-inspiring. LOL , I often thought "umm I wonder if that Auzzie fella could make a centre pin fishing reel for me? I know what I'd like and how I would like it built!", LOL I can dream🙂 Hoping you will continue to provide many many more hours of engaging content for all your followers in the years to come, imagine the possibilities Kindest regards to you Chris Bob
i think that the guy whose patron is a WATCH COMPANY is really trustworthy in terms of gear cutting this is something i personally think is worth mentioning and JEEZ it is an award in itself
Great video! I'll drop it here since I can see many people with experience. What if I wanted to electroplate a brass watch dial with the target of achieving a very smooth and high end dark surface, and by dark I mean black. What kind of anode would I need, and what kind of solution?
I've never watched a watchmaking video with my jaw dropped until this one. The detail and care you take with a tool to be used is just extraordinary, amazing work here. Thank you for these videos!
7:55 Just rewatching this as I'm setting up my new shop, such a great insight in where to invest first, really appreciate this series! Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of file shopping. What's you favourite go to file? Like if you had to pick 1 to start with, what would you want most?
A 8" #2 cut Swiss Grobet 'hand' file like this: www.artcotools.com/swiss-precision-files-hand.html. Mine gets constant use on the lathe, for part tidy up, de-burring etc Cheers :)
so i literally stoped the new indiana jones movie to look up this device. found a comment on a different channel telling me about your series on this. bravo.. It really boggles my mind how this was able to be done with such precision and able to be though out back then. amazing work you did, that was hard tedious work on the lettering. i could not have done that.
Being that i am from New England (rhode island), i should be more or should have been more invested in to this along time ago…..like at elementary school age.
