When I was a licensed plumber in CT I saw much worse but the one that stands out the most was a third floor bathroom of a three family house. Toilet clogged and heaped above the rim and the bathtub full to 2 inches from the rim. I told the people I had to go out to my truck to get some tools and just drove away. The owners were friends of mine and said it couldn't be "THAT" bad. LMAO They put plywood on the outside of the house and shoveled it out the window then cleared the toilet and tub drains. Never say never and yes they claimed it was only clogged for 2 two days.

This may be weird but I find the differences in drain systems between countries quite fascinating! Anyone know where I can get any more info on how the NY drain system is set up. I cant quite work it out.

Yeah im with you! im in the UK and love seeing other countries pipework. I have to say i think the USA has the most baffling and health hazadous plumbing ive ever seen.i mean who has traps like this Inside the homes that can flood them with raw sewage?? i dont understand why they dont put the access manholes outside where it wont flood the property like other countries.

NYC Plumbing Code. An outside manhole would be trashed. First, the cast iron might be worth 2 bucks, scrapers forage the streets. It would be most unsafe to service the outside house traps, in many neighborhoods. I constructed such a pit, once, in a commercial bldg. It was 10 ft deep, with ladder rungs cast into the concrete walls.

I couldn't agree more!! As soon as he said the door 🚪 was in the way I was thinking "damn! I would have at least taken the door off the hinges so he can get in here easier." And I would have picked up that pile of junk in the corner. Hell my husband would have even gone as far as shoveling out the solids from the top. IDK how some of these ppl think "hey yeah, this seems ok to have someone come into this $#it pile to clean my drains." 😔😳🤢🤮 Still did a GREAT job as usual though 👍👍👍

One great things about being a plumber/drain cleaner you do not have issues with neighbors borrowing tools generally :) ALso I often wondered if you could force the cable through the U trap, but I can see you can in a pinch. I believe I seen earlier on in the videos you have like a smaller cable you can use if needed though?

Generally its easy to get at or should be... The sewers are usually 10+feet below grade so in the basement is ideal to keep the trap accessible and not where it will freeze.. New buildings where I am anyway do not have traps, only a clean out in the basement, BUT it is possible and wise to have one put in outside.

Some of these places are likely from the (early) 20th century probably even late 19th. Their sewer service is equally as old and they still need to interface with it so cast iron it is

Dude looks like that spray bottle fall and hit a dead persons hand at 0:16 minutes. Each fungus gnat produces 40 eggs due to damp soils (crap). May the force be with you on that gnat infestation my friend. Really I just pray for you and the customer. Now tell the customer to get 6 small bottles of fogger to boom the whole house. Like I did. My wife brought some plant and they were infected with fungus and they produce a storm of gnat. kill 50 gnats and Now got five more gnat to kill.

How come you always use a rodding tool? Every other drain channel I've seen uses a jetter. I'm sure there is a reason for this but I was just wondering what it was. I would think in the old pipes of New York City a jatter would be easy easier on the old pipes than those metal rodding tools are.
