I watched a bunch of videos trying to fix my clogged kitchen faucet. I was about to bail from this one and then you provided a solution and saved me $$$ Thanks for this! Almost like a best kept secret.
Just searched this out to see if my recent fix idea was original (it's not) I had the same problem. Washer in the hot side stop valve disintegrated. I cleaned out the valve and installed a stem repair kit, which includes valve stem and washer. Still clogged. After checking the rider tube (clear), it had to be in the fixture itself. Before taking the whole fixture apart, I taped the spout opening (not a pull-out) to increase the flushing pressure Turned on cold (Lever in mid position cross connects cold and hot sides internally). It flushed out about 5 chunks of rubber, and I found a few more granules in the faucet strainer. I really didn't want to replace my 40 year old Moen set because it has a higher flow rate and 180 degree temperature lever swing that allows a wide hot/cold transition point.
Nice video, this is a common problem. The seat washer will eventually disintegrate in old stop valves and clog faucets and toilet fill valves too. I try to remember to check that when replacing a faucet or fill valve and either replace the washer in the stop valve or install a newer type "quarter turn" valve that doesn't have a washer. This is a great video of how to check all the clog points in modern single handle faucets.
Thanks so much! I tried the flushing hack, and lot of black rubber pieces came out. So, I suppose I'll be changing that hot water shutoff valve. Pressure is restored, though! Definitely made my week. :)
I Just fixed my Glacier Bay brand kitchen faucet following your steps!.. flushed out a bunch of little bits of dirt and debris.. now the hot water line is running strong! 👍🏽👍🏽🙌👊🏼.. I save my self some 💴!! and the wife is happy now 😅.. thank you my guy and thanks to Utube University!!
Omg I tried everything, nothing worked until I got to the step where you cleaned out the blue plastic piece. That fixed my issue and my water pressure is way better than I have ever had. Thank you so much! Clicky piece cleared! You saved the day. 😂
I had the tube in my hot water heater disintegrate about 15 years ago. We had plastic coming out of all the faucets, clogging stuff up. A few months ago, the upstairs bath wouldn't shut off. I called a plumber and he said it would cost $1200.00 to replace the old faucet shut offs. I did some research and found the parts online and the tool to go with them. I pulled the handle off the hot water handle, removed the two way valve, and beneath it was a 3 inch piece of pipe that had disintegrated those many years ago. what a pain!!! but I saved $1100 bucks!
This video came in really handy...same issue with my faucet also...thanks a bunch...all good now..still need to replace the HOT side valve but for now, I am up and running on the cold side with no pressure issues...thanks
Thanks man! That fixed the bathroom sink for a while. It has galvenized iron and rust flakes build up over time. This tip worked wonders. Don't have to wait an age for the hot water :)
Right before I closed on my current house, the water heater had to be replaced. Six years later black crud started coming out of the faucets in the master bath. Quickly discovered it was hot water only and after flushing the water heater tank, still had the problem. I pulled the beautiful braided steel hoses going in/out that were new with the heater and sure enough, there was black rubber inside which started to deteriorate on the hot side. Replaced them with convoluted stainless steel lines; all better since!
Wohoo!!! Mystery solved. I spent 2-3 hours trying to figure out the issue. Even removed a cartridge, cleaned and reassembled it but no luck. Finally this one worked. It was a small ring inside a quick connect just like this was the root cause. I can sleep now!! 😊
I’ve been watching your other channel for years now and found this one when I bought my first house earlier this year, but somehow never realized who you were haha! Faucet repair is textbook dad, unless you’re wearing dunks while you do it! Hahaha
Hey Ben I've been using "Shark-bites" With no problems for years. Haven't had a problem. They have a deburring tool for about $10 US when connecting PVC with them never had a leak. Yet lol cheers
I followed all your steps and it improved the hot water, but not totally. I contacted customer service for Kohler and they said a valve where the main handle is is probably the issue, and also gets clogged. They're sending me a new one. We'll see....
Hey, thanks a lot for the video, my hot water was clogged on the shower at a mixer tap like that. After some fiddling, the idea o disconnecting the hot water an using the pressure of the cold water to unclog it worked underfully for me. The clog was the result of an old rubber thingy that was breaking apart. I still need to replace that though.
yeah the issue i had with a faucet recently was the aerator was packed with sediment and calcium. just swapped it out and now we're running nicely again.
Mixing valve. That is the word you were looking for. Aka that thing I completely disassembled before I discovered the rubber seal on the hot side was my problem as well.
Thing is, when you run water, the flow pushes the rubber bits into the screen. Once the flow stops, they sink back into the line and it starts all over again!!
G'day, I've got a similar tap and on mine the rubber travelled its way into the head of the tap slowing the water. It comes down to cheap Chinese rubber. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺.
I've got the same problem. Old kitchen faucet was running slow. Replaced it, and the new one got slow after a week or two. I discovered a degraded bibb washer in the hot water shutoff valve, just like you. I pulled out all of the visible rubber fragments around the valve and replaced washer. But problem continued. Tomorrow I'll try this solution. Just out of curiosity, is your hot water shutoff valve a Brasscraft? I think they might have had a run of bad rubber washers. Thanks for the video!
Could you refer a handyman in Mississauga, Ontario. The earlier painter messed up badly leaving brush marks everywhere(door frames, baseboards) and wont fix it.
Hello, I live in vancouver and I´ve arrived from Peru 7 days ago, I bought all my tools becouse I thought I would be able to buy and optimize (cut) melamine panels for a lower cost. Now I got notice that it is really hard to find different melamine designs (surface colors) and services, like cuting and edges covering. Do you know a place that does it?, as it is normal in Peru, i thought it would be the same or maybe better here, but it is not. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS AND YOUR SUPPORT
Maybe ask the same question at Home Depot or Lowe's? If you're lucky they'll have someone knowledgeable about the local market. If that doesn't pan out, head to your local immigration services office, they should have career counselling and hopefully a big enough network to connect you with someone who has knowledge of the industry. Good luck with your journey in Canada!
Just got to experience this battle. Why i didn't just search this prior i will never know. Sure enough, chunks of chunkies came out. Cleaned it up and it's running freely now. Fyi... plumbers deserve their pay grade for the singular reason that they are forced to contort under sinks. Tip your plumber.
1:50 shouldn't there be a one way valve on the cold water in the faucet so you can't push possibly contaminated hot water into the cold drinking water?
@@beachrider21 it's been sitting in your hotwater tank, might have been at a temperature promoting bacterial growth, etc. maybe mostly historical ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HfHgUu_8KgA.html I think it is actually a requirement in many places
@@fuzzy1dk That video is talking about British water systems with water storage tanks open to contamination. Modern houses have closed hot water tanks supplied with potable water. If the hot water coming out of your taps isn't potable there's a problem with your water supply or the pipes in your house.
"Now, is it leaking in there from anything I did?". ...well, I already closed the cabinet doors and I don't hear anything, so must not be bad enough to worry about. Ha.
Vancouver plumber, put that thingy…, Vancouver carpenter, hit it with that thing, Vancouver drywaller, feather the edge of that stuff, Vancouver… 😂. Just kidding thanks for another helpful super helpful tip from Vancouver DIYer… 😉
Those rubbers should be changed for real gaskets and then of the sort capable of handling hot water. Everyone (🙃) knows those cheap rubber o-rings or washers deteriorate rapidly in hot water environment.
