I do want to clarify by no means is the cost a new module outrageous, $2200 dollars for a F30 BMW is a reasonable repair cost, but for some people and cars, particularly those that have a freak accident a used module may be viable, some high failure rates modules, we will not do use, simply because we know the used unit will fail as well. We don't really know anything about this unit, but when a professional repair shop customer supplies 2 modules and says do it, we oblige...

I have 3 programmers that will clone those ecu’s: Ktag, launch xprog3, ACDP and PCM flash. I always use ACDP. I don’t have to open the ecu to go thru boot mode and they have connectors that plug into the ecu without having to pin all those wires

Thanks for the video. Usually you don’t need to use the checksum on unmodified original files when cloning, there is a checkbox in options

Guys like you are a god’s send to people like me. It bugs me that dealers have a monopoly on the diagnosis and repair of electronics and vehicle management systems. It also bugs me that I cannot go under the hood and check the fluid level in my transmission. I own a modern car, but in reality I am not the owner, it is the manufacturer and the dealer own it. Every time I get in the car my blood pressure rises because I don’t know if it will start or if it will let me down on the road. Then it would be an expensive visit to the dealer again, because I cannot diagnose the fault myself, without expensive test equipment. I am old school. When I was young we had cars that were simple. You could service and fix problems yourself. If it broke down there was always a garage nearby that could do the job for you at a reasonable cost. I just wonder how long it will be before the manufactures try to take down businesses like yours and monopolize the whole repair and service industries. Keep up the good work young fella.

Dealers don’t do this type of work. They are only able to program new modules that they most likely don’t have in stock or are discontinued

If it were performing bit level read and writes for the entire storage space... there should be no checksum manipulation. That has me a bit perplexed.

It may be a CVN (Calibration Verification Number) calculation fix as well.

I also bought the hex2 and am using it as my primary bench tool, what tools would you add to it if I wanted to cover the rest of the modules? Like if I had a tool addiction... but I don't 🤫. Btw, my focus is domestic. I already have iot & dc706 from issac

Yeah I've been a mechanic all my life, I understand electrical troubleshooting And how electrical systems work but this is a whole other level of repair, it's almost like learning a completely different skill/language. This is why there's guys like him that are specialists just like in the medical field there's people that specialize in certain things because it's a very specific skill set!
