Clooney: 'Being in a Trailer Is Not Fun' 

also i found charlize to be the most self conscious. and tilda to be the most authentic. clooney seems like he's running for class president. viola is also deeply real and unaffected. fassbender is neutral and plummer is old school. fascinating.

tilda made an amazing point and they weren't listening or perhaps they didn't understand... how can people their age NOT get her point? trailers are basically insurance. If you didn't have a trailer it would be more of a liability to the production team and the movie as a whole. it has nothing to do with the actor but more to do with the fluidity of how the movie is shot and giving actors trailers (however fancy they may be) keeps them in a known location where all their needs are met ... ON SET ... which makes the directors life a whole lot easier. They are commodities.

I think Clooney has the ego of "not having an ego", Tilda's perspective seems more level headed. She's able to disassociate ego from the scenario entirely and just see see the trailers for what they are, pragmatic tools of the production.

After watching many of these roundtables. I'm still not sure where Clooney is from... could it be KENTUCKY?????

What people don't understand is that Tilda here tries to explain why the size of one's trailer becomes so closely intertwined with one's ego, but she is interrupted a lot and eventually drops it. Her point is inherently relevant to Clooney's. Rendering actors a 'commodity' by means of having them stay in a trailer is creating a sort of system. Having smaller and bigger trailers creates a system hierarchy. So in the confines of such a system, people begin to place value on their little luxuries that set them apart from their co-workers who happen to stay in a smaller trailer. They assign importance to that and vie for it, eventually forgetting that in essence they are not free, but contractually obligated to be in a specific vocation, for a specific period of time. This situation (co-option of the system's threat, in a way) is perfectly depicted in the film 'Raise the Red Lantern.' I think that's how Tilda tries to go about it, but the rest are too hung up on the idea of ego and they completely miss the point.

Okay, I've watched about three of these, excited about Fassbender!! But the more of these I watch, the more in love I am with Tilda Swinton... The more in love with how when Viola Davis talks, everyone shuts up and listens!! It's so fucking amazing how Tilda and Viola have more intelligence, wit, humour and authority than George!! They are quite simply "the man" any and every woman would love to marry!!

People constantly bad-mouth actors and celebrities for being egotistical, but whenever I see a roundtable like this they always seem to be humble, smart, and not to take themselves that seriously. I seriously think people only believe A-listers like Clooney and Pitt are egotistical because they are constantly being told that by bloggers and tabloid authors who are jealous of their success.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being pampered, even if you are acting in a role of an impoverished soldier in blood-soaked mud. Olivier was not "method" because it was his job to act.

After seeing all of these segments, I've come to believe that Charlize is a very sheltered individual... Very protected!! When Tilda is talking about how production companies can reduce an actor to become a commodity/possession, Charlize is talking about "Princess behaviour" in the same topic!! In another segment, Viola is talking about the politics of film and racial orientation and Charlize is talking about beauty in the same conversation!! She is very... protected!!

the funny thing is that half of them weren't even nominated; but I'm not really surprised because there were a lot of strong performances this year and only five slots per category.

Umm I know this was out in 2012 I just ran across it while in between shows, so let me tell you from my perspective as a below the line employee. These “ trailers” they go on about are taken care of by me. Me. I’m the Basecamp guy. There is also a Honeywagon ( Long Tractor-Trailer that has changing rooms & Mens/Women’s bathroom for crew only) guy. Between usually the 2 of us or sometimes just me. These actors/actresses the minute they drive into BC, it’s Groundhog Day. They cannot, drive a car, turn on lights, flush a toilet, use a tv remote, get coffee/water/food, get to set( which can be the stage in front of them or a van/car to take them to set which is a foot away from their trailer) their collective memory is gone till the show is over, then a miracle happens & they miraculously can do everything & when you see them again weeks or month’s later they don’t know who you are at all. This of course is not all of them it’s a generalization of a large percentage, this is not Hollywood 1940’s 50’s there is so much going on above line/below line. We are now told after taking multiple Harassment classes ( Mandatory). Privately after the class DO NOT TALK TO ANY WOMEN AT ALL except if spoken too. We now hide in small groups, make no eye contact, look the other way, pick up your phone & take fake phone calls & walk away.. it’s a sad place today. Not for these actors, they have serious power, & can cancel your career with 1 sentence to the UPM, & your gone into oblivion. and yet they complain about trailers, the stories I could tell you. Narcissistic and crazy weirdos.

I encourage folks to remember that oftentimes it's not this way for that way but it's both. Swinton has a valid point on the pragmatic way productions view the use of trailers. However, I would also assume there have been insecure "stars" that have lost their $#!+ because their insurance rider demands weren't met regarding the size of or provisions aboard their trailers. It's interesting how some in this thread cling or dismiss a narrative because they like (Clooney > Swinton) or don't like (Clooney < Swinton) someone. Life is nuance. Two or more possibilities can be true.
