Welcome to this video featuring an unfortunate topic when it comes to Los Angeles Metro and trains in general, trespassers who have the potential to delay metro/Metrolink or any train service by hours on end, in addition to the loss of a life. In this video, this K line driver does a great job preventing any of that from happening while approaching the Expo/Crenshaw Station, the northern terminus of the K line. This video showcases his response and what overall happened from the near miss to the arrival at the station. I dont know if the guy tried to commit suicide or had mental illness. I thought he tried to commit suicide because you can see he was trying to get in front of the Approaching train and once he did, he jumped but realized the train would most likely stop because of how slow it was going. If the train was going faster than this, then the train wouldnt have stopped in time. If the guy had mental illness, then he did this without knowing how much danger he was in, im glad the operator had a fast reaction response.

@@TigerRailfan It would show that they have competent reliable operators and push towards better safety for them. I would submit it while its still current, the news cycle is 24 hours, this man deserves recognition, metro will survive any negative feedback that is temporary, it wont be the tipping point. This would increase moral of the Metro Operators and Staff, submit it 🙂

This is why metro stations should have platform screen doors. Unfortunately Us metro systems are allergic to such technology.

Metro needs Platform Edge/Screen Doors (PEDs/PSDs) at every light rail platform (subway be included ideally) at least so incidents like this can be prevented in addition to sealing loopholes at surface light rail stations where there are only validators and PSDs with fare gates and turnstiles can help close such loopholes. Stations such as Expo/Crenshaw would benefit with full height PSDs to not only provide rail safety but also better regulate platform ambient temperatures.
@TigerRailfan
@TigerRailfan Месяц назад
I agree that these will help, especially at this station here which is underground, I’m just curious though how this could be implemented at stations like Farmdale. Either way, it would help a ton! Thanks for watching
@ostkkfmhtsh012345678
@ostkkfmhtsh012345678 Месяц назад
@@TigerRailfan At-grade stations such as Farmdale would need fare gates such as the ones used at stations with direct subway connections and grade-separated stations to work as I already mentioned. PEDs/PSDs cannot work with validators. PEDs must work alongside with fare gates and turnstiles to be effective at stations such as Farmdale so physical fare control boundaries are well defined in addition to providing passenger safety since it would be technically impossible IMO to use track intrusion sensors at such at-grade stations with vehicles (cars, buses, trucks, etc.) that can easily access track areas and can mess up the track intrusion sensors. There are LRT/tram systems with both fare gates/turnstiles and PEDs such as the 🇧🇷 Baixada Santista VLT, 🇨🇴 #TranvíadeAyacucho, and 🇹🇷 #EsTram.

@ostkkfmhtsh012345678 Месяц назад
@@TigerRailfan To implement PEDs/PSDs at stations such as Farmdale you mentioned, the station validators must be replaced with fare gates and turnstiles. Then the PEDs are effective in both providing passenger safety and defining physical fare control boundaries. There are LRT/tram systems where they have both fare gates/turnstiles and PEDs at every station such as the 🇧🇷 Baixada Santista VLT and 🇨🇴 #TranvíadeAyacucho.
