How to get fatter sounds out of a guitar amp and patch cord. Rooftop. Let it Be. Get Back. Part 1 60's Ac30, volume on 2 ...PRS with Motor City Blackbelt pickups ... miced with a pair of ART C3 Condensers set to Figure 8 ..one 3 feet from the cab another 6 feet away ... Fed directly to a Zoom q8 with no additional processing. The Ac50, volume on 2 is from the Mid 60's the cab is an 80's fender 2-12 with one alnico Red Fang and a Swamp thang... Bass is an ealy 80's Squire 50's p bass. All Guitars have an authentic Sprague 50's PIO capacitor. The condenser Mic provides Clarity and bandwidth without fizzy distortion, there is a subtle slap back via the figure 8 pattern, and the active elements of the mic grab more signal as the note decays adding some subtle compression. Dynamic mics with their lower sensitivity tend to drop off sooner. The condenser captures the "sustain" the dynamic misses... a review of the historic photos indicates that this micing technique was extensively used until the close micing technique became ubiquitous for "isolation" purposes. For the record I owned a Drip edge 67 twin for about a week 25 years ago, normally I don't sell good sounding vintage amps... so I don't have a twin to demo this with ! (this also tells you what I thought of its natural sound, too loud and brittle for regular use)
