So you either have to Get your shoulders or head past the defender, pass the ball, or shoot for the count to be terminated. Thanks that makes a lot more sense
Good question. The NBA does have many rules that are different, in addition to, or substracted from, the NFHS and NCAA rules and are so due to the skill level of the players that make up that league. Since this site is designed for high school basketball under the NFHS rules, I simply do not have the knowledge or understanding of those rules sets. Thanks for watching.
3:47 You said a "new count began" and I counted 3.5 seconds and the ref blew his whistle early even after ballhandler got his head and shoulders past defender... Was this a bad call or...???
This violation often goes unnoticed by a great number of officials. In your second example the official in my view not only called the violation inappropriately, but sped up the count. This is another issue in sports in general where officials put themselves in the game needlessly. Is this a subject you could broach in your videos?
If a player can control the ball, holding or dribbling, all the way up to 5 seconds, meaning 4.99, so 4.99+4.99+4.99 equals 14.97 seconds. So it's important to make sure we allow the full 5 seconds before blowing the whistle.
