I had this DVD too , but I sold it when Superman TAS vol.'s 1-3 sets were released DVD,this needs series needs a Blu-ray release, come on WB we the fans need this released too!
This is a great video Zaranyzerak. I am planning on buying Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-Ray, I am going to go for the regular edition. I was going to buy Mask of the Phantasm and SubZero on Blu-Ray but I held off when I found out that they would be included in the Blu-Ray set of The Animated Series. I still have the four DVD volumes though, I bought each one as they were released. I'll hang onto them after I buy the Blu-Ray set.
Superman’s getting a Release in 2021! For the 25TH Anniversary I hope it’ll include the Brainiac Attacks film like how Both Batman Sets have there respective movies!
As for your Question on why Batman in Season 4 or Volume 4 got remastered. He was retooled to fit with Superman’s Animated Series! So the Animation matches when they have Crossovers!
I don’t know what they were thinking when they did the redesign of the Joker . Luckily they fixed it in Justice League and Batman Beyond. As for why they completely redesigned the animation style, they wanted it to fit in with the style of the Superman cartoon that was going on at the same time.
Another reason for why all of the characters were re-designed was because the budget for those latter episodes was smaller . Therefore the characters had to be easier to draw which meant they would be easier to animate.
All the Batman the animated series episodes were animated by Japanese artists. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm crew only wrote the stories and did the art design and the story boards and advised the japanese companies, and also decided which Japanese animation studios episodes went to get animated.
One of the best animation series, ever! It's very dark & sinster at times. The one where Harley Quinn gets out and decides to go shopping & it goes wrong for her. Then one point she's holding a dummy's arm saying, I'm armed & dangerous, I nearly died from laughing.
Just purchased the first season on my Prime account. Only $9.99 USD. Definitely looking forward to this! I only saw one episode back in 1992, but never followed up on the rest of the series. Don’t know why. But I am psyched!
Those DVD releases from the mid 00s were really great from all of WBs releases from DC, Looney Tunes, Hanna Barbera, Tom and Jerry all great packaging , disc art and menu art. Sadly they don't make 'em how the used to.
I have this too. I agree it’s the best batman world. But I still love the 89 batman. Ied love to see more Batman stories with them Characters. Even though it would be hard to get the two main actors to play those characters again in a animated movie
I love this series something that I never watched when was on TV, in UK we were unlucky as we only got volumes 1 & 2 and never got 3 or 4 which was annoying but you could get from the US and there were region free
Great video Batman the animated series is my favorite Batman cartoon Although each Batman cartoon is good for what it is the Batman was quite good for its time and brave and the bold from what I remembered is a nice passion project We’ve also got a new justice league cartoon recently called justice league action it was ok it felt like a Scooby doo cartoon (mainly what’s new Scooby doo) but less repetitive and more focused on dc hero action although I don’t know why swamp thing is considered a dc hero in this show maybe he could be an anti hero but I digress I still recomend checking it out for curiousity and completions sake
There is an overall continuity to the series if you watch it in order, but it isn't heavily serialized like today's shows. There is definite continuity across the series though, if a bit rough.
Nope! You store them the other way so you can impatiently open them faster! lol :) I decided I am not going to get the Blu-rays. They seem to me to be something like a 25% improvement visually. If it were more like 40-50% I would get them. I also didn't like that they are much brighter than the DVDs. That kinda kills the dark mysterious look that we grew up with when it aired on TV.
Have you checked if they made an audio description for those Blu-ray? I am blind since birth and I read it. Want to enjoy this animated series. But besides being blind, I’m French so if I want to watch it with someone, it would have to be in French because I can’t concentrate on the dialogues in English and my friend who describes me in French. and even if the French dub has an incredible casting, I don’t want to miss Kévin Conroy and Mark Hamill
Audio is English, French and Spanish. Just regular audio tracks, no descriptive ones. Sub-titles are English SDH and French for the series, the two movies are English audio and sub-titles only.
When he pulled out those cards I was praying to God that he wouldn't scratched them because scratching on those types of things with that 3D material hurts my ears.
Another excellent Closer Look. I have question about the DVD animated series , I had put in volume 1 watched the first show then the next episode was Christmas with the Joker, and I don't remember it being like that when it was on TV then the next show came on. There not order on the DVD so what about on blurry are they in order? So I guess the question is what order to watch them in, the same as they are on DVD or order of air date is there a proper order to watch? I'm trying to fine air date order.
The blu-ray presents the episodes in the same order as the DVDs. The order is actually based on story continuity, the airdate order was a bit mucked up in that regard. So what you're seeing on the DVDs/Blu-rays is the order in which they are intended to be viewed.
@@zaranyzerak OK I do understand what your saying, it is a little odd when I first put the DVD in and the second show jumps rate to Christmas with the Jokes. I understand thanks a lot really appreciate.
I hope someone can answer this, but is blu ray and 4k roughly the same thing? Like all 4k players play regular blu rays? And is it even possible to have a 4k version of batman the animated series or batman beyond?
4K is no more the same as Blu-ray as Blu-ray isn't the same as DVD. DVD, Blu-ray and 4K are 3 different formats, offering 3 different levels of quality. Players typically offer backwards compatibility, though, so you can play most if not all of them without needing multiple players. You can play a DVD in a Blu-ray player, you can play a Blu-ray in a 4K player, etc. But of course you cannot play a Blu-ray or 4K disc in a DVD player. As for quality: DVD - 480i (720x480), Blu-ray - 1080i/p (1920x1080 and Ultra HD (4K) - 2160p (3840x2160) As for Batman, yes in theory it would be possible for those shows to get 4K releases as the source material is film, and film is of much higher effective resolution than even 4K HD video can display (thought 4K is very, very close to that level of quality) Anything that has sufficiently high source material can have a Blu-ray or 4K release, regardless of age. In other words, pretty much anything shot on film.
I’m gonna save some bucks and get this. I’ve only seen that episode that introduces Mr. Freeze all the way back in 1992. I thought it was superb. But didn’t continue watching for some reason. Gonna make up for that after almost 30 goddamn years!
@David Hinkle Ah, so it is. I just popped it in the player and checked. It's the original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, so you're actually getting more of the original image than what appeared on the matted widescreen releases.
Can someone help me? I finished the first episode of season 3 and I was wondering if I need to watch the whole season to get into Batman Beyond. The different art style and the writing rubbed me the wrong way in that episode and I just wanna know if it’s important to watch the whole 3rd season before watching Batman beyond
You can watch Batman Beyond pretty much any time, though I'd recommend sticking with Season 3 anyway since there are some fantastic stories in that season that are considered must watches. The art style was to bring it more in line with Justice League at the time. I also prefer the art style of Seasons 1 & 2, but I don't consider the difference in look a deal breaker as the quality of writing remains consistent.
@@zaranyzerak I watched the second and third episodes and I’m definitely getting used to the animation and the writing is still on point. That Christmas episode in my opinion was an awful way to start season 3 but now that I’m watching more of it, I’m really digging it. Thanks for the reply!
I think anyone buying it from Amazon would have gotten it with some amount of damage. Because they tend to ship it in those dreaded padded envelopes. Mine too had a bit of box damage, and because it sold out so quickly it was impossible to get a replacement
MarkVI - You did If only ordering the Blu Ray and nothing else from the shipping depot. Lucky I ordered my with other stuff so it’s was protected when shipped in a normal cardboard box.
It is there, it's the last 24 episodes on the set. It was actually Season 3, released as Volume 4 of the old DVD set because the first season took two sets. There are no episodes missing.
I initially boycotted this bluray set, due to their being pop dolls in the packaging. They later released a pop-less version. But I am still upset that they didn't release the normal version first, for people who didnt want the pop dolls.
That's actually a very common practice, to release a limited edition first then a "standard" release after. It is done this way all the time with collector's editions of movies. Also, it was announced well before either set was released that there would be a Limited version and a Non-Limited version, so you could happily pre-order whichever version you preferred.
@@zaranyzerak well there you go. Ever since tv shows on DVD shut down, I have no clue what's coming out anynore. I just saw one day that this was released, and I saw the pop dolls, and said absolutely never.
Joey Baseball 1. Releasing the special edition first to hopefully sellout guarantees more of a profit than releasing the standard edition which may hinder pre-buyers that already have the series. It may have slowed the sales down or worst not even sell out. You can say objectively that the only other item of worth is the holographic cards. It creates unnecessary competition between their own releases. 2. Comparing of the price differences may also dismay buyers since you don’t get very much as this “Special Edition” to make it worth it. Though the normal version is $90 so they could easily chosen the special edition. Like the Iron Giant special edition. 3. This seemed to be run like another test to see how this such a project would result. It did has problems through -Didn’t fully sellout from preorders sales - criticized for the funko mini pop inclusions -Had backlash from the horrendous shipping damages -It even had a discounted price while it was initially selling. Not a action you would want to do on such a release. It was a success but not as much as it could’ve been. 4. WB is doing this trend of rereleasing movies but packaged with the mini funko figures. I say The Shinning & It combos at a Walmart back in September. Hopefully they will abandon this inclusion with other deluxe animated releases. The top funko cutout in the box does hinders the displaying option of your not a funko fan like us. Also the choice designs they had for Batman & Joker in this celebration of the noir animated series is just wrong. I would’ve chosen the art book that was included in the dvd special edition. Finally of course they will release a standard version to sell to the masses. There would’ve been a huge uproar if this was the only way of watching this remasters on limited blu rays. This is of course a show that nearly everyone would want so there is another target demographic to sell to.
I have Batman Mask Of The Phantasm Batman Mystery Of The Batwoman The Batman/Superman Movie And Batman and Mr. Freeze Subzero DC Universe and Warner Bros
I'm way late on this video lol. Volume 4 of BTAS is actually The New Batman Adventures that aired on KidsWB. What happened was after Bruce Timm & Co left FOX Kids & went to The WB they began working on Superman The Animated Series. The 3 Part crossover (which you have as The Batman Superman Movie) was being worked on so WB asked to do a new Batman series & a redesign was given the okay as the original cartoon was partly inspired by the Tim Burton films (this is why Season 2 was retitled The Adventures of Batman and Robin to capitalize on Batman Forever & why Penguin looked like Danny DeVito) & they wanted a more unique design. The season only lasted one season as they began work on Batman Beyond, then Justice League, but they did retool the episodes as part of the New Batman/Superman Adventures. Batman Mystery of the Batwoman was actually released years later towards the tail end of Justice League Unlimited. I actually didn't buy Mask of the Phantasm Blu-ray as I was happy with the DVD, but now I have this Blu-ray set & it came with it. I do wonder why Mystery of the Batwoman isn't in the set. I also heard The Batman Complete Series doesn't have the Batman vs Dracula film either. I did opt for the regular edition & what suck is the disc holders suck now. Had to get a replacement just because the disc holder broke so discs don't stay. I'm not a fan of the paper sleeves either but hopefully the discs last for you. I upgraded mine in case the DVDs start to have disc rot since I had to recently do that with the Superman movie collection. My 2005 DVD set won't play some stuff so got the Blu-ray from 2011 as the 4K leaves a lot of extras off. Unfortunately the digital copy doesn't work. I have contacted WB hoping they give me one since I just bought the set.
NEVERMIND! I think I found it! Its the "Shades of the Bat: Batman’s Animated Evolution" 22 min featurette - batman-news.com/2018/11/12/batman-the-animated-series-deluxe-limited-edition-blu-ray-review/
Yes, review copies show the 4K transfer to be absolute trash. Detail and natural film grain completely smeared away with excessive DNR. No point, the quality looks literally worse than the Blu-ray. I won't be buying unless they fix it.
the nonlimited bluray set is the best to own imo. It comes with more episodes/content on each disc then the normal dvds do n the discs are in cases unlike the limited bluray set
It's in the set. You can clearly see it in the episode listing. Both the DVD set and the Blu-ray set have every episode, nothing is missing. Also it wasn't actually Season 4. There were 3 seasons, not 4. It was just split up into 4 Volumes for the DVDs.
For the longest time, I thought The New Batman Adventures was included in this set and now I find out it isn't! Why wasn't it included? Will it get a separate release? So much for a "complete" series set 🙄😭
The new batman adventires is in this set. Because it's so similar to Batman TAS they released it to DVD as Batman TAS Volume 4 and on the blu ray as season 3.
It is on the set. As Marty said, they just call it Season 3. The rumor was that it wouldn't be included, but it most definitely is. It's truly complete.
That season came several years after the original 2 seasons. The design was changed to make it more visually consistent with the visual style of the Justice League animated series at the time.
Even i don't know why i had this impression as i like this series. But i felt it lost some of it impact maybe. Or the 30 mins episodes is too short for today stanard for story. Even i don't know :\
