Chinese can build infrastructures on time, on budget and at a fraction of the cost compares to western countries, Elon Musk said; "Chinese can build infrastructures 100 times faster than American."
@jimwong2269
@jimwong2269 5 лет назад
Baidu Mel, super agree bro! For example, California High-Speed Rail from LA to SF, 840km (520mi), approved in 2008, will operate in 2033 (about 25 years), original budget was $77.1B, in the future will be $98.1B! If China takes this project, the cost almost one-third of the current budget and can be done within 10 years! China's high speed rail with a maximum speed of 350 km/h has a typical infrastructure unit cost of about US$ 17-21m per km, with a high ratio of viaducts and tunnels, as compared with US$25-39 m per km in Europe and as high as US$ 56m per km currently estimated in California. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_High-Speed_Rail

@@ArturoVilchez92 I don't know where you're from 😂 Maybe the USA. In this case, nothing illogical. The US territory and the demographic distribution don't favour the use of trains in the sense it's not the most efficient and rentable way of transportation. Having trains is unrelated to being developed or rich. Australia and New Zealand have limited railways and many old roads, yet we speak about 2 developed countries where it seems that anybody around the world want to immigrate to. How new and fancy the roads are and how many trains you have have never been criteria for development and wealthiness 😂 That's the Chinese theory just like most Western countries believe in the democracy to make a country successful. "Start to build road bla bla bla" is a Chinese proverb. It applies for China only. There are enough developed and wealthy countries in the world who can confirm it's not true at all.

Nowadays everywhere in Africa we are being told by those who enslaved and colonized African people that the Chinese are our new colonizers. Although, like all other governments, the Chinese government has its own domestic problems and faces challenges in the areas of human rights and civil liberties, I like this Chinese focus on infrastructure development assistance in Africa such as the construction of an extensive railway system in East Africa. This will enable our countries to expand trade within their borders and between our countries. Most European countries who colonized many of our mineral-rich countries failed to do this over centuries of enslavement and colonization. In this regard, a good example is the extremely mineral-rich country like Congo, Kinshasa with little internal infrastructure development after several decades of colonization, post-colonial Mobutu Sese Seko's dictatorial rule, and presence of the United Nations "peace-keeping" forces that cost billions of dollars to maintain. The United States leaders (the CIA to be specific) conspired with the Belgians to get Patrice Lumumba killed with the help of Mobutu and Katanga secessionist rebels and to impose Mobutu’s dictatorship on the Congolese people. Now they often try to accuse us in Africa for being responsible for dictators like Mobutu. In a nutshell, this shows that certain American and European leaders hypocritically pretend to be against dictators in Africa especially if they work against them. But then, as in the Mobutu case, they not only support dictatorships, they also help to bring them to power and impose them on the African people if such leaders work for and promote Western interests while they enrich themselves at the expense of their citizens. What should be emphasized is the fact that with regard to relations with both the Chinese and Western governments, our African leaders should borrow strategically from any quarter and avoid doing it excessively to avoid making it hard for our countries to repay debts in the future.

Sounds like you listen to a lot of Western media and former colonial masters teaching, after hundred of years ripoff African continent are they help you to industrialise? No. Debt trap is another bias topic Western nations try to stop Africa move right direction, they don't believe that African people and it's government can manage their OWN destiny!!! China believed that with capital investment to prove roads, railway s, the Africa nations can slowly industrlized just like Chins 30years ago, Chinese experiences will help nations in beautiful Africa.

IMHO, the Chinese model may not work for every country because there're two ingredients that are a must for its success, based on my own observation from publicly available sources: 1) political stability -- Whatever you build today will get blown up tomorrow due to internal or externally induced chaos, e.g. Iraq, Libya, ...; and 2) willingness of citizens to sacrifice certain degree of personal freedom for the greater good of fellow citizens -- you can't buy guns from Whatmart or gun shows at will and then go shoot up the town when you had bad day or a losing streak in casinos. Oh, one more: work ethic.

Nobody is talking about the debt burden and the pressure these infrastructure projects bring on African economies. The deals also seem to be skewed towards China. The feasibility study was done by the Chinese, the costing was done by the Chinese, It was financed by a Chinese loan, the rail is being built by a Chinese company with a pool of workers and raw materials from China. The locomotives were bought from China, As if that is not enough already, the Chinese are going to run the rail for 10 years at a cost of Kes 12 billion annually from Kenyan taxpayers. This project just creates business for Chinese firms.

China cannot plug the gap of a profound lack of local innovation in Africa, using Chinese technology is a short term solution, Africa must use indigenous technology to develop their infrastructures. Whilst there is more sincerity of purpose from the Chinese in comparison to Western countries, Africa must stop being mentally lazy and start to innovate by mainly learning from the Chinese. In the 1930s China was very poor and politically unstable until chairman Mao came out with the cultural revolution, no foreigners invested in the economy it was all indigenous Chinese companies transformed China and that is why China is in the place that it is today. Why can't Africa do it without looking for outside help that comes with a high cost. To develop our vast continent the cost of development must be halved and that can only be done when local companies deal with local contracts therefore creating local employment. Innovate or perish, lack of innovation is the greatest threat to the existence of the black race. Innovation is the only solution to racism as we cannot consume ourselves into equality, me must develop, invent, build and export just like the Chinese.

Facts: the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR was completed at a cost of $ 3.3 billion U.S. 90% of that is financed by China EXIM Bank. But let me put that in terms that are more personal. The lifetime cost to be borne by each Kenyan citizen will be 6,891,068,301 KSh ( or $ 63,047,285.50 U.S. ). How many Kenyans are willing and able to personally bear such debt? For the last date available 2018 Kenya's debt-to-gdp ratio was 60.15%. With the loan for the SGR, that figure will certainly balloon to an unsustainable rate.

@Nic, sorry to burst your bubble, I am a Kenyan living in Kenya. You must be the one kissing Chinese ass. Let me pull your head out of Chinese ass and open your mind to the big picture. The Chinese projects in Kenya are part of "Chinese silk road plan."(research for yourself). It is serving the interests of Chinese people first by opening up East Africa to consume more and more of Chinese products. Do you even know the trade imbalance between Kenya and China? In 2018 alone, we spent 380 Billion shillings buying imports from China, mean while, they only bought Ksh 0.1 billion shillings worth of goods from Kenya. Thats less that half of 1%, in the mean time they are siphoning more than 20% of our National GDP to the Chinese economy every year. Business is good only if it is fair. Open your eyes and see the big picture. Stay woke.

China is using debt trap policy in Africa, the railway built in Kenya doesn't make any economic sense since it was built next to an existing railway that was not being used to full capacity. The feasibility was done and railway built by the Chinese. Kenyans have to now pay more taxes (to pay for the loans) as this projects cannot repay themselves
@ciru0017
@ciru0017 5 лет назад
Next to an existing railway.. Really. That thing that was left behind years ago that could hardly go more than 60km/h is what you call an existing railway. The debt is a lot I agree, but you cannot compare what the Chinese built to what was there before.

I agree with you. Chinese citizens actually don't like working with Africa like this! Because the vast majority of loans are uncollectable! Many of the loans end up not having to be returned. The Chinese people will ask: Why is this money not used in China? The Chinese people also want the money to stay in China to develop the economy! The Chinese people will ask: Why not let Africa continue without railroads and continue to maintain the transportation and economic model left behind by the colonialists? Why do the Chinese spend so much manpower and money in Africa so that Africa can close the gap with the world economy, and in the end the Africans call it a debt trap! Full of mistrust! Please ask for so many years. Before the Chinese came! What is your economy and the environment like? Without giving, there can be no return! You can't use the logic of beggars to explain.
