You can’t even imagine how many families wash one load or more each day. Yes we should minimize our water usage at home but even with our daily water use in the home, it does not equate to the over abundance of water that is being used for the meat industry and for anything else in the consumer world. The issue isn’t really washing diapers or taking a bit of a longer shower. It’s what’s on the shelves and in the markets plus so much more.

What about the loads of diapers being dumped into landfills

1. The cloth diaper usually catches everything, I think i've only had one blowout in the beginning and I think its because I didn't put the diaper on properly 2. Some people wash at laundromat, hand wash them their self, or find another cloth diapering mom in their area that can just add your diapers to their load. I know its not for everyone so if you aren't able to that is completely fine!

I never had an explosion with cloth and my baby used to go ALOTTTT as far as working, if you have at least 2 days a week where you can wash I would say you would be good to go! Just make sure you have enough diapers to get you through those days before wash days (I had about 20 diapers in my stash and I was able to get through 3 days before I had to wash) so if you had like maybe one day during the week and then maybe a weekend day, also the wash cycle takes a while if you’re doing it at home maybe start them in the morning and then either dry them or hang to dry at lunch?? Or after work? Haha sorry I didn’t mean to highjack the comment!

If you don’t have a washer or dryer or are not allowed them where u live, invest in a portable washer they are like 100 on amazon. It makes life easier to was them at home dry them by hanging.

You can also get second hand cloth diapers. lots and lots of mamas are looking to sell their diapers for a portion of the price of brand new ones. Facebook has tons of groups with lots of information!

Suely Figueiredo when I did the math we would be spending ALOOOTTTT a year on disposable, I can’t remember the exact number but it was enough that my husband finally got on board with doing cloth, for my entire cloth stash plus accessories I think I spend like 250 dollars and we were set!

@Suely Figueiredo It largely depends a lot on when the child ends up Potty Training. You can easily spend around $1,500 for the 1st 2 years (plus Cost of Disposable Wipes, roughly around $300) on Disposable Diapers. If they are still not Potty Trained by 2 years, the cost rises even higher than that (and becomes much harder to Potty Train). Cost can easily go up to $2,000+ for 2 1/2 years (average Potty Training completion age), and that is per each child. The Savings Value of Cloth Diapers can be steep for the initial cost (need to buy a lot of things all at once), but when you take into account that they can be re-used for a 2nd child, the amount of Money Saved really comes into play. Standard Minimum of Cloth Diapers to start with is recommended about 24 (that allows for at least 12 Diaper Changes per Day). Even if you bought high end, and paid $20/Diaper, that would be $480 for Diapers that could last you all the way until Potty Training. Price gets reduced drastically if you sew your own, or buy 2nd-hand from parents selling their Cloth Diapers that they no longer need. Cloth Wipes, Can vary in price. I can find a set of 36 for about $12, so about $12-$24 should be plenty. A Wet/Dry Bag (for changing while not at Home) can cost around $5-$20 depending on the size. Would also buy a Wet Bag to use as a Diaper Pail Liner (about $10). Total for all (Brand New) items would be about $534. Cheaper if you sew your own, or buy pre-owned.

I’m sure the woman didn’t answer the question because their services cost more than disposable diapering. The above commenters seem to be accurate though. It does tend to be about $1500+ to diaper one child. Cloth diapers can be bought as cheap as $100-250 for all you need for multiple children if you’re washing them yourself, which is actually really easy and not inconvenient if laundry isn’t your least favorite thing in the world.

@Andrea Hernandez Yes, most people when they hear/think of Cloth Diapers, they think of a cloth that you wrap around the baby and safety pin around the waist. Cloth Diapers have come a long way since then, and evolved!

Moreno Moms I saw a video that mentioned disposable inserts that may be compostable, ever consider those?

Cianna Coleman I just recently heard about them so I’ll have to look into them! Currently, we’re full time disposable diapers bc our washing machine has been broken for 3 weeks, and the warranty company is being...difficult. 😑

I recommend getting a few brands and types. Natural fibers are the best for baby and easiest to clean.

I would join a Facebook group. Cloth diapers for beginners group is good. Here are a couple great brands. Happy beehinds, noras nursery, mama koala and alvas are great they are pocket diapers so you stuff an insert inside. As far as insert you can do prefolds, bamboo/charcoal, hemp, microfiber (microfiber should never touch babies skin it can dry out babies skin). I like to use a four sack towel they sell them at Walmart and are super cheap I use one of those and add in a hemp insert in the middle so baby doesn’t leak. If you buy used diapers you will need to strip them then sanitize. Again I would get on a fb group to help you out. Congrats on your baby!

Most say 24-36 diapers but it's an estimate based on how many you personally need and how often you will wash them. It also depends on if you use diaper covers that can be used more than once before washing. No one can tell you for sure unfortunately.

I used all three types: aios, covers and pockets. I personally prefer aios for my daughter and use covers for my son as those fit larger babies which he is. The cheapest is covers with flats, I personally used flour sack towels and they work great, prefolds are good too. I recommend using natural fibers, easier to clean and better for vent and the environment. I love cotton and hemp.

jaiden mckown I would get on a breastfeeding group they are very helpful! I’m nursing my 4th baby and I can say this hydrate and have plenty of calories so you can make enough. Baby only needs drops Of colostrum the first few days their stomach is the size of a cherry. If your having trouble latching check for tongue and lip ties. And nurse nurse nurse is the best thing you can do for your supply. Baby can sometimes nurse every 30 min that does not mean you have a low supply it’s just cluster feeding and part of it. My mom told me she didn't think I'd last initially but she was okay with it. They're much more modern than during her time. Stick withi it, I love cloth!

Biodegradable still sits in a landfill for many many years, and still takes a long time to break down. Biodegradable doesn't always mean that it breaks down easily.
